The Hamil Family Funeral Home is somewhat of a new beginning to a longtime heritage of funeral service to Abilene. The family first began in the funeral business in 1933. The Hamil's legacy, beginning with the Elliott's to John and Jo Ann Hamil and now continuing with Robert and Karla Hamil, is to serve families in their time of need.

Born and reared in Wichita Falls, Texas, Sam made his way to Abilene to attended Hardin-Simmons University in the fall of 1962. After receiving a BBA degree from HSU and working several years in the accounting field, his search for a career that more nearly challenged his abilities and satisfied his interest in design lead him to Texas Tech University to complete a BA degree in interior design.
No matter if a death is sudden, or if it something that was a long time coming, the loss of a loved one makes us feel emotional and overwhelmed. No amount of preparation can fully prepare you for the loss of a loved one. When you are in a heightened emotional state, even the most basic decisions can seem staggering.
Traditionally, a burial service involves a visitation, followed by a funeral service in a church, or other place of worship. The casket is typically present at both these events, and it is your decision on whether to have the casket open or not. You have the option of having the remains interred (earth burial), or it may be entombed in a crypt inside a mausoleum (above ground burial).
Giving a meaningful, moving eulogy can be a nerve-wracking situation for even the most accomplished public speaker, but it need not be. How can you summarize somebody's life in a few short minutes, while being both somber and funny at the same time? Writing and delivering a eulogy is a therapeutic tool to help deal with your grief, and being chosen to give a eulogy is an honor and should be treated that way.

My brother suddenly passed and they were so kind, caring, compassionate and understanding. They really worked with me to get what I needed. Taylor is the sweetest. She explained everything and kept in constant communication. I absolutely recommend them. I am so blessed they helped me and took good care of my brother.

Luke and Corey did an absolutely excellent job with my dad's funeral. They were kind and compassionate throughout the entire process and made my family very comfortable. I was very impressed with their kindness and also their beautiful facilities. I would recommend Hamil Family to anyone. They are the best for sure!

I can’t begin to express how wonderful the entire Hamil Family team was to our family. We lost my brother and dad seven months apart so got to know each other well. Just simply an amazing team and facility with every detail. Alan had the patience of Jobe with me. God love him! Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts from the all The Bunton’s.
