Camp Farwell is the first sleepaway summer camp for girls in Vermont, New England and the first summer camp for girls in the United States. Camp Farwell, a Vermont, New England sleepaway summer camp for girls ages 6-17, has been a special place for its campers since 1889.

Situated in the Green Mountain State on Halls Lake, our magnificent 100-acre site offers a wonderful location for a rich variety of activities - from horseback riding to water sports, from music and dance to team endeavors and individual pursuits. If there were three ingredients that could be said to form each girl's Camp Farwell experience, they would be friendship, community spirit, and a warm family environment.

It's so wonderful to see her looking forward to going back to Farwell with such enthusiasm. Charyl and Bob Hanson (formerly school teachers) are the owners and directors of Camp Farwell and are looking forward to their 43rd summer at Farwell. Marley Hanson, Charyl and Bob's daughter, is a year-round director at Camp Farwell.
I would like to take this time to thank you both for experience and character you have both instilled in my heart. I was never meant to love camp, it was only a means to an end. It was serendipity, and it became a part of me. You made me who I am today, through the tears, and the laughter, crazy Vermont lightning, and rain splattered guitars, I will always be grateful for what you have done in my life.
Campers choose their own activities each week and follow that schedule Monday through Friday. There are five activity periods in a typical day-three in the morning and two in the afternoon. Some activities are grouped by age, some by ability and other groups are mixed to include different ages and abilities.
I can hear it in her voice how much more she is shining and I know that it is because of Camp Farwell! I am forever in your debt. We have two types of typical days-activity days and arena days. Activity days occur 5 times a week and are usually on Monday through Friday. Arena days happen on the other two days of the week and these are usually Saturday and Sunday.
The Camp Farwell horseback riding program offers the highest level of instruction in the camping profession. Our classes and activities are crafted for all ability and interest levels. For many campers, horseback riding is just one of many activities they participate in each day.

However, for campers with a keener interest in riding, they have the option to participate in more than one period of horseback riding as well as other activities offered by our equestrian center. And for those "horse-crazy" campers who are absolutely passionate about horseback riding and horses, they can elect to spend their full day up at our Equestrian Center involved in both horseback riding and other horse related activities.

I spent a lot of time working with a Summer 365 camp expert to identify warm, family-feel camps with options galore that would welcome my child with open arms and help her grow in spirit & independence while creating lifelong friendships with her fellow campers. My final choices were as different as could be, one large, the other small. We choose Camp Farwell in VT and sent her off. Here we are two summers in-person + one virtual summer experience during COVID and she is forever-Farwell! Directors Marley & Rachel practice what they preach & have established a community that is caring, supportive

My 10y/o first time away from home. Staff at Camp Farwell worked hard to respond promptly to answer questions and address concerns. My mind was at ease with the confidence My princess was in care of people who took the time to learn who she is.
My daughter spent three weeks.. the little city girl can't stop talking about her experience at the lake. The horses, the bugs the fish in the lake.. the campers, the counselors everything made her stay a most pleasant experience. Thank you Marley and Rachel for being so good at what you do😍.. see you next year God's willing.

My daughter has been enjoying Farwell Connect over the summer and now into the autumn. She loves all the well prepared activities and bonding time with other girls her age. It has been a godsend when getting together with friends isn’t always possible.
All of the counselor and directors are lovely and you can tell they really care about the girls and love working with kids

I just signed my daughter up for her third summer at Camp Farwell (summer 2020) and she is extremely excited and so am I! I can't begin to tell you how much we both love Camp Farwell. Personally, I went to Farwell when I was my daughter's age and I have very happy memories of my time there. My daughter has had two incredible summers at Farwell so far. The staff is amazing.... friendly, kind, caring, knowledgeable in the activities they lead. Marley and Rachel are two of the kindest and most sincere women we have ever met. They are both amazing directors and and a huge part of the reason why Farwell

My daughter has attended Camp Farwell for three years. It is the place she looks forward to going to all year! It's an absolutely fabulous camp. From the first year she attended, the personal attention, care, and enjoyment she got from her incredible counsellors was better than I could have even imagined. Farwell works hard to make sure each camper takes part in activities that they really want to do. Other perks are fabulous food, phenomenal all-camp fun days, and the many friends that return year after year to make Camp Farwell the close-knit community it is.

My daughter has attended Camp Farwell beginning with Rookie week at age 10. This summer will be her 6th, and she is thrilled to have been chosen as a CIT! She loves the food, the friends, the counselors, the beautiful setting, the wide variety of activities from creative to athletic and back, the special themed events, the field trips, and the Farwell traditions b'neath the pines... The strong encouragement these young women receive at camp shows when they come home. We're happy to recommend Camp Farwell! The only one disappointed here is our son who wishes he could go too!

Best summer camp ever!
My daughter, Mia, was a first time camper last year and absolutely loved it! She will definitely go back this summer!
As a first time camper parent, we were a little nervous, but the director of Camp Farwell, Marley gave us peace of mind by answering all our questions. They keep open lines of communication with parents, throughout the newsletters you get to know the staff, what they are doing throughout the year. They also offer webinars with Q&A to provide all the information the camper/parent needs prior to arrival so you know how to prepare and what to expect.

My daughter has been attending Camp Farwell every summer for a month since she was 11 years old. I cannot say enough about how much good that month does for her every year. I honestly think she is a better friend, a better person, and happier overall because of the community that is Farwell. The camp is family run, beautiful, small with an emphasis on rapport building and confidence building. Girls thrive at Farwell. My daughter has made lifelong friends there and basically cries for the first five miles after we pick her up to drive home at the end of her stay there each summer. She comes back

Camp Farwell is the most amazing place. In July my 16-year-old daughter will be returning for her sixth summer session. She calls Farwell her ‘summer home' and looks forward to it throughout the year, a place she loves for the friendships and the special traditions and the daily activities – horse-riding and arts and archery and mucking about in boats; as a parent I love it for all these things and even more for the incredibly positive, nurturing environment that has helped my daughter grow and develop in really important ways. The physical setting is also just beautiful and I love that she
