Disappointing service, disappointing food, hefty price tag!
I ate at American Slang twice, once for breakfast, and once for dinner. The drinks I had at dinner were expensive and poor/mediocre, their smokey martini tasted mostly of vodka. It was supposed to have Artbeg scotch in it, but it only had a splash of it on top which was gone with the first sip. The rest of the martini was vodka and a couple stray ice cubes that passed through the strainer. We ordered another drink with rosemary and it was OK. The chicken we ordered was so overcooked and dry that it was actually difficult to eat, and the

American slang is the restaurant at the Intercontinental hotel in KC. Recently we had a great experience that protends well for the future of the restaurant and the hotel. Last Sunday there was a pounding rain. As a result, many hotel guests got breakfast at the hotel rather than venturing out. There is no way anyone could have predicted the large number of people coming down at the same time. They were understandably very short staffed. The server Adam and the rest of the crew did an amazing job handling the crush. It was very impressive to see the new General Manager of the hotel leave his office

My friends and I went here for afternoon tea on a Saturday which is between 2-4pm. Let me just say, it was the cutest, girliest thing we have done which was perfect for celebrating a birthday. The tea was delicious and you got as much as you wanted and the sandwiches and little desserts were so cute. It was an Instagram influencers dream, I would say!

Went for the afternoon tea with girlfriends, we had an amazing time. The tea service was tremendous, the food was delicious and the perfect amount. We walked away very satisfied. Our server was absolutely wonderful and really did a great job at accommodating us. This was our first afternoon tea and it certainly won’t be our last.

Went for Sunday brunch and was all around disappointed. Food was decent, though have had much better brunch food in KC for about 1/2 the price. Our waiter rushed us the entire meal and never offered us any other drinks other than water and coffee. I ordered a Bloody Mary which was the worst I've ever had, I'm certain it was just watered down tomato juice. Our waiter brought all of our checks while we were still actively eating. He had to reissue checks because we continued to order after he brought the first round of checks. The restaurant did not appear to be very busy that day, but definitely

My fiancé and I came here for Sunday brunch and weren't too impressed. Service was great and friendly, and the view of the plaza was lovely. The music was good also.
However, the food was average. I ordered the quiche with a side salad. The quiche was very thin and did not contain much egg. I don't think I would have known it was quiche if it hadn't been listed as such. The arugula salad looked amazing but it was coated in salt. I couldn't even eat it, because it was so salty and not good. Putting salt on a salad defeats its nutritiousness.
My fiancé ordered the eggs Florentine which was much

So in love with this American/French cafe. The decor is beautiful! I loved everything I ordered and can’t wait to go back! I dined here during restaurant week in January and loved the options on the limited menu.

We booked afternoon tea for 3 yesterday and our visit was superb! Our daughter's love for tea parties brought us here for her 4th birthday. Without asking, they added peanut butter & jelly finger sandwiches to our tea tray - which was just so perfect for our daughter. And then they came out with a large slice of amazing chocolate cake complete with a lit candle. The smile on her face was priceless, and I am just so happy with the service and friendly smiles that we received yesterday. Thank you!

I went with 4 girlfriends for the high tea. It was nothing like we thought. Starters the tea sandwich selection that was advertised was not what was offered at all. There were about 8 sandwiches for 4 people the dessert selection was also not as varied and lacking in volume. To top it off our waiter didnt speak English and was clearly rushing us.The experience was not great and I would never recommend this for a girls afternoon. Also there were 2 weddings going on and the expectation of an upscale experience was lost with all the noise and staff members running around. Lastly this"high tea" per

Came here for breakfast. Standard brunch items all played quite nicely. Not out of this world (prices are pretty hefty) and service while friendly was a bit slow when we first arrived.

Love everything about American Slang - the food, ambience and location. Wonderful happy hour and live music. Enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner here. Easy to get in and out of. Park, dine and then enjoy a day or evening on the Plaza shopping.

Love the decor and the service, but it's the food that will have me coming back for more.
On a nice day, you can step outside on the balcony overlooking the pool. If you've got kids, this is a great way to spend time after you order.
We tried a mix of entrees (grilled chicken and salmon) and sandwiches. My only complaint is that we didn't leave enough room for dessert. We'll just have to return -- a good problem.
