The Ballet Studio
What sets The Ballet Studio apart from other dance studios? We teach ballet exclusively and adults exclusively. We have four levels of ballet for adults, as well as a beginning pointe class and ballet exercise classes. We also teach a variations class intermittently during the year. Check the schedule for updates.

Brand new beginning students should take Ballet Exercise for the complimentary class. The Very Beginning Ballet class starts from the "very beginning" each quarter, so a placement class is not appropriate unless it is the first week or two of the quarter. At The Ballet Studio, we teach adult ballet classes in a supportive and professional atmosphere.

I moved from NYC to Seattle and missed my old ballet studio like nothing else. I kept trying without success to find a studio in Seattle tha broke down all movements in precise fashion and also offered individualized corrections. I literally attended five other dance studios in Seattle that offer ballet and none have come to close to Kristen as a teacher. She is truly gifted in terms of explaining dance in a manner that is precise, thorough, easy to comprehend, and not intimidating. She offers individualized corrections and truly thinks about how best to teach a skill (breaking down movements and

I'm now in my second quarter of ballet exercise classes and loving every minute. Zoe, our instructor, teaches us about the vocabulary and movements of ballet while also leading a delightful hour of exercise and stretching sets the tone for the rest of my day. I've never taken ballet before and everyone is so sweet and supportive. I also love having a live pianist accompany us!

I'm only 3 weeks into my beginning ballet class, but i'm enjoying it immensely. The ballet studio brings back all of the memories of what an authentic ballet experience should be. The smell of old wood and worn shoes, the upbeat melody of a pianist in the corner of the room, the barres lining the edge of the room, standing at attention. I love every second of being in that studio - the class is dynamic and challenging to my muscles - the teacher warm and entertaining. I highly recommend this class for people of all ages and fitness levels, as it's a great introduction to the

I really love this place! I was looking for a ballet class that would be forgiving (I haven't taken class in a few years) but also structured and challenging. This studio checks all boxes! The teacher (Algie) is fantastic and live pianist makes for an excellent class. This is a real structured ballet class and I'm so happy to have found it.

I love this supportive ballet experience! Everyone has varying levels of experience and the age range is awesome. Just keep dancing!

The studio is spacious, and the live music accompaniment is something I did not expect and have never had in dance classes in the past. Gary is great! Our teacher, Kristen is just fantastic. She is super supportive, always has a smile on her face, and takes the time to make corrections where needed.

At first I was nervous and second guessing my decision to commit to weekly ballet classes, but the people (it's always the people) were all so encouraging and

I’ve been going here every week for almost 3 years now. Kristen D., an instructor, is what keeps me going back!

Wonderful instructors and nothing beats Gary's live music. I was pretty intimidated going into ballet exercise knowing nothing about anything but the atmosphere is so relaxed you really have nothing to worry about.

I started here a year ago taking ballet exercise as a sort of cross training for my cycling and it was so difficult but amazingly fun. Everybody is so kind and supportive here you really have no reason to be intimidated. I just completed my second quarter of very beginning ballet and am now moving up to beginning 2. These classes are much more technique based and less strength-building, but I find them to be more relaxing.

Also, Gary, the pianist, is amazing!

I have taken Ballet Exercise class on and off for several years at the Ballet Studio and simply love it! The workout is tough yet elegant and gentle. You will definitely feel it and see results!
In addition, there is live piano music which is a really great feature that you won't find anywhere else. Great instructors too! I highly recommend it.

I have been taking Ballet Exercise here for 3 years now, and I love it as much now as I did when I started, mostly due to Kristin Darby's professionalism and enthusiasm and Gary's great musical accompaniment. I'd never taken ballet before and really feel like I've learned something as well as toning muscles, I find myself going through the movements when standing around idly now.

The floors were recently refinished and are beautiful, no more splinters!

I am nearing retirement age and am at least 30 pounds overweight, but I have always wanted to take ballet, just to have a better understanding of an art form I love to attend. When I read that there was a studio exclusively for adults near where I live, I thought I'd give it a try. It's been a wonderful experience! I plan to continue because:
1) the teachers who offer the "Very, Very Beginning" class are encouraging and kind while being extremely professional (i.e. they treat you seriously and are meticulous about correct form); they answer all your questions and will give

This was my very first ballet class ever, and I tiptoed into the studio in my leotard feeling like a fraud, having never danced in my LIFE, much less classical ballet!

I've been really amazingly pleased with this place. My wonderful, smiling, patient and enthusiastic instructor has made this such an easy transition. The people in the beginning ballet class range from those with experience to those like me.

The live music is really cool, and the studio is beautiful, with lots of natural light, and very centrally located.

Because of this class, and my enthusiastic instructor, and this

I had an amazing ballet exercise class at The Ballet Studio. It was challenging without being frustrating for someone who knows absolutely nothing about ballet (me). I was very pleasantly surprised that there was a gentleman that showed up to play piano and sing - we worked out to LIVE MUSIC! I love it!
Unfortunately, you have to sign up for a series , they don't do drop-ins (except for a single complimentary class for the first timer to check them out), which can be difficult for people with varying schedules or who travel a lot. The other annoying thing is that the studio floors are made

Update: I'm not sure why my previous review was not recommended by Yelp but since I've been taking classes at this studio for at least six months I thought I'd update my review. I really, really like coming here. The teachers are friendly and they will give you exercises to do at home if you ask. You can wear stretch pants and a tank top to class. There are a fair number of people who have never danced before and the instructors are very helpful and don't expect fantastic technique. There is a good makeup schedule if you miss a class. Some people are really good, clearly

Just had my first class here and loved it! This is real dance folks, not some dumbed down exercise class. And you will get one heck of a workout, while growing stronger, more flexible and generally more graceful. The place is welcoming and the instructor is both extremely kind and skilled. The class is accompanied by a live pianist -- the whole studio is very old-school ballet, without the intimidation and exclusivity.

A little back story: I started taking ballet as a child and quit in my tweens because the teacher repeatedly called me fat (my chub was developing into curves) -- so no more

The Ballet Studio has really helped me get back into shape after a long while off exercise. They have a great class called 'Ballet for Exercise' which combines ballet barre exercises with floor pilates. Before I enrolled I asked if experience was necessary and was assured it was not. Instantly I felt very comfortable. The classes have a wide variety of students and everyone seems to fit in. All (adult) ages and shapes! The program helps with both flexibility and strength, and is effective without being grueling. Once really nice feature is they allow you to make up classes within the
