Services
CMD Automotive was started in 1995 by Jim Gorman. As this Charlotte based auto repair and maintenance business grew, Dwight Patterson came on board as a partner. Over the years, more staff members have been added to keep up with the growing business. CMD employs only the best technicians with ASE certified credentials which is critical for quality car care and repair.
Jim is married with two kids, and has been working in the automotive repair industry for 32 years. He opened CMD Automotive in 1995 and has been a working partner ever since. Jim is an ASE Re-Certified Master Automotive Technician. He is also a certified MIG and TIG welder, is certified in anti-theft systems as well as a locksmith, and holds a certification in Advanced Fuel Systems.
CMD Automotive is conveniently located in Sedgefield neighborhood, home to Historic South End. A 3 minute walk to New Bern Station on the Lynx Light Rail Blue, we are the convenient auto repair and maintenance shop for our South End neighbors and Uptown commuters.

I have used CMD for my car repairs since moving to Charlotte and they are outstanding. They can generally fit you into the schedule very quickly and turnaround time is even faster. They’re great at communicating exactly what they recommend getting fixed, and are very honest with what is absolutely necessary versus what can wait. They also take the time to explain exactly what is going on and what could go wrong if repairs aren’t completed. They don’t try to sell anything you don’t need and the prices are extremely fair. They also prepare you if they think something may end up being costlier

I travel for a living and finding good, honest mechanics can always be tricky. The staff at CMD were friendly and professional. I only came in for an oil change but they were able to see me that day and I was on my way in no time. Any time I come through Charlotte these will be my guys for all my auto needs. Even their waiting room was clean and inviting. Thanks guys. Keep up the great work 😁

GREAT first experience with this company. I called needing a headlight replaced and Kevin was extremely helpful over the phone. He gave me pricing info right away and explained the process since this was new to me. I dropped my car off 20 minutes later and 30 minutes later it was ready to be picked up. Price was great, service was great, and I will definitely be back!

I have been a CMD customer for many years ever since they opened the shop on South Blvd (they have since moved). I try to do as much work on my own cars as possible but when I don't have the time or the energy or the expertise, I take it to CMD because they do it right. This shop is very different than any other shop. They are honest, straight-up, helpful and provide very high quality service. I tried some of the other notable shops in town but they just don't even come close to the level of honesty, quality and customer service as CMD.

As someone who usually goes to the dealer to get service, I decided to break off from getting ripped and try an independent shop. I walked into CMD on Monday and scheduled my appointment for Wednesday. The staff was very professional and friendly and they provided a fast, quality service. Will be going back for any car needs.
