The Edward J. Chomko Funeral Home & Cremation Services is a family, veteran owned and operated business offering 4 generations of professional service to families locally and nationally since 1905. When the time comes to give your loved one a memorable tribute and a caring service, families throughout the Northeast have come to depend on us.

From coordinating multi-state and international escorted transports, arranging drones to capture a different vantage point, or organizing a private service The Edward J. Chomko Funeral Home & Cremation Services is devoted to providing excellent standards of care. We are a locally/veteran owned and operated professional service.
Services
Founded by Andrew Chomko in 1905 at the corner of South 7th Ave and Scranton Street and moved to our present location in 1925. The building remained the same until 1974 when Ed Sr. began a large renovation and expansion project. In 1988 and 1990 additional adjoining land was acquired for expansion and parking.
Take EXIT 185 to the CENTRAL SCRANTON EXPRESSWAY (Exit ramp on Left) to merge onto PA-3022 W/CENTRAL SCRANTON EXPRESSWAY, Stay on SCRANTON EXPRESSWAY and take the first exit on the RIGHT (CEDAR AVE.). You will come to a stop sign and take a RIGHT and then the very next LEFT (that is going down grade, [MATTES AVE], along side the General Dynamics Plant).
Pre planning yours or your loved ones funeral is a relatively simple process. You can pre-pay funeral expenses with an irrevocable burial account or with an assignment from life insurance. The pre planning of a funeral is a burden that you or your loved ones will not have to cope with, after the loss of a loved one.
As a Veteran, you have entitlements. In the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, death certificates are at no charge (presently $20.00 each) for the veteran, spouse, and dependent children. From the federal Government, you are entitled to a burial flag, burial space and grave digging with grave marker in Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) run cemeteries, and your spouse may be buried with you at no charge.
How will current CDC guidelines and state mandates effect my loved one's funeral or memorial service? Current CDC guidelines suggest limiting attendance to immediate family and close friends, however the Governor of Pennsylvania has mandated indoor gatherings to no more than 25 people.

We are capable of having outdoor gatherings of up to 250 people, and we also have an option to offer our clients a drive-thru viewing or memorial service on our premises. The drive-thru option would be the same as a traditional viewing or memorial service, but outside under tents, with attendees passing through in their vehicles.

I witnessed a beautiful thing at a private funeral service. Standing at the side of the casket were Edward, Sr. and Andrew folding the flag for the veteran being buried. Father and son, military men themselves, SO respectfully handling the flag. Brought tears to my eyes. I’ve seen it before. The way these men treat family is so respectful and military with honor. The love they have for their fellow veterans shows through. Thanks for allowing me to witness this sweet moment. I would absolutely recommend them for taking care of your loved ones. Extremely professional and compassionate during our most difficult time. Andy was most helpful not only answering all our questions but really making sure that we understood everything entirely. They undoubtedly made one of the most difficult times in our lives a little bit brighter.

Please read the entire post. When I arrived at their parking lot I said to my family that we cannot afford the services here. Ed and Andy showed us everything they could do for us. I was so surprised that I was entirely wrong. Not only did we afford it, but they handled everything from start to finish for us. I had never been through this process before, so I was surprised that they handled everything in it's entirety, with absolute detail and respect. Thank you so much gentlemen.
