The Thomas J. Hughes Funeral Home was established in 1957. The namesake, Thomas J. Hughes, Sr. was a graduate of the American Academy of Funeral Service, New York City, and served his residency at the Frank E. Campbell Funeral Chapel. Upon completion, he returned to Scranton where he opened the original location, which sits at 1240 St. Ann St.
The Family-Owned Funeral Home: A Part of the Community. The funeral profession, like many American industries, has a long and proud history of personal service provided by families with deep roots in the local community, and a deep commitment to upholding professional standards. What's in a name? Today, as many industries, the funeral profession has seen the emergence of national, and even international funeral service conglomerates.
Most of us plan for the years when we no longer need to, want to, or cannot work. It is a necessity we cannot afford to ignore. The federal and state governments have programs such Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid to which we we all contribute while working. Being informed as to what we have earned and making sure we receive these important benefits is part of "Being Prepared."
Without a doubt the most important reason for making funeral and other estate arrangements in advance is to spare your family this task at a difficult time. There are over 50 decisions to be made when arranging a funeral. Making these decisions today, with the help of those close to you, lets you make logical, well thought out plans that your family will appreciate.
Staff Members of Hughes Funeral Homes are caring and experienced professionals who understand that each family is unique and has personal requests and traditions. These requests and traditions are of the utmost importance to our staff of licensed funeral directors. The interpersonal moments we share with families and friends are of the most importance to us.
