These are our goals for MarriageRenew - the hope and reality of beginning again, restored, revived, replenished, youthful, strong and long-lasting - "as if new again." MarriageRenew is not just another counseling, coaching, or therapy model for relationships. Currently there are a number of effective and successful models available - each based on solid clinical research.
Discernment counseling is a targeted approach for "mixed agenda" couples where one partner desires reconciliation and renewal of the relationship, while the other partner has expressed consideration of ending it.
Currently a focus of research at the University of Minnesota, Discernment Counseling acknowledges that couples who have different motivations, yet are faced with a crisis or decision point, may actually be hampered through methods of traditional marriage counseling. In Discernment Counseling we help individuals and couples decide whether to try to restore their marriage to health, move towards divorce, or take a time out and decide later.

The duration of counseling depends on many factors, but solution-focused, cognitive, brief therapy is considered among the most rapid in terms of results obtained with an average of 12-16 sessions. Other forms of therapy, like psychoanalysis, can take years.
What enables solution-focused, cognitive, brief therapy to achieve goals more quickly, is its highly instructive nature and the fact that it makes use of homework assignments between sessions.Solution-focused, cognitive therapy is time-limited in that it helps clients understand at the very beginning of the process that there will be a point when the formal therapy will end.

I don't know where I would be today if Gary was not a part of my healing. He took the situation that my family and I were going through and he put all the pieces together and gave great direction and advise. He taught me how to set up boundaries in a loving and caring way. He believed in me when I was a shell of myself. He educated me on behaviors that I had no idea existed and taught me how to overcome and deal with them when they cycled around again.
He is genuine, kind and a caring counselor who is excellent at what he does.

I have been seeing Gary Hanson for the past couple years after the sudden and tragic death of my brother! He has helped me more than I ever expected. I never thought I would find joy in anything again, but he’s helped me work through the pain and struggle of that tragedy...along with struggles with my immediate family as well. He is a very mild mannered gentleman, yet still challenges me when needed. Would highly recommend therapy and would highly recommend Gary Hanson.

We have been seeing Gary for four years. He goes above and beyond couples or marriage counseling and helps with all aspects of life, including your professional life, your relationships with others, your mental state, etc. I love his holistic approach to therapy and we have found that improving the pieces of our life outside of our marriage, has brought us closer together and made my husband and I a better functioning team at home. We have never worked with a therapist who has done this, but love this style and this is why we continue to see Gary. He has helped us through many issues and obstacles

Gary was tremendously helpful in helping my husband and I navigate the loss of both of my parents, one being quite sudden and unexpected. He gave us the resources and tools we needed to manage our grief and sadness while raising our two young children. We are forever grateful for his counsel and support.
