The American Yacht Club is America's oldest continually operating private yacht club. We are located in Newburyport Massachusetts on the Merrimack River, just a short jaunt from the river's mouth. We operate as a volunteer group and the members participate in the many operations that keep the club vital and the buildings and grounds in excellent condition.
The American Yacht Club is host to many regattas every year, including the Chet Young Regatta and the Rum Run Regatta. Along with these events, the AYC also organizes a sailing school to encourage and educate younger sailors in the techniques and skills of safe sailing. Services
It should be obvious to any boater that it is all much more fun and interesting when you have friends to share your experiences, ask questions to, and share knowledge of boats, waters, techniques, safety, gear, electronics and so on. Our idea of sharing transcends all of that and we also get to share a fantastic clubhouse, floats, and mooring fields.
Similarly, the club serves as a launching point for members reaching beyond our home waters. The dusty cars in the parking lot and empty moorings bear witness to members who are off cruising. AYC boats have wintered in the Caribbean and even the Mediterranean. The club has also hosted an invitational regatta to raise money to battle cancer.
Club events are relegated to our club members and invited guests unless otherwise specified. To become a member or get more information, please go to our membership page. These activities are not open to the public but if you would like to meet club members and see and hear what the club is all about, getting invited to an event is a great way to start.

Over the years, our staff instructors have taught hundreds of kids, families and adults the joy of sailing from our Club House on the banks of the Merrimac in downtown Newburyport.
Supercharge your kids summer by enrolling them for a session or two at the AYC Sailing Camp. Our courses are designed to be fun, yet instructional, with students earning their US Sailing basic keelboat certificate. Skills are built at the student's pace through five consecutive half day sessions. Courses run through the summer vacation and students can sign up for a week of morning sessions, a week of afternoon sessions, or both.
