The Hong Kong Restaurant began with a single dining room on the first floor of its Massachusetts Avenue location back in 1954. Major changes began in 1970, transforming it into the three floors that it occupies today, although then with an expanded dining room on the first floor, a second dining room on the second floor and a banquet room on the third floor.

I'll be honest, I accidentally walked in while trying to go to Santouka because I couldn't see the sign above my head and didn't realize until I was seated, but it was extremely worth it. Having gone to both places, I somehow have a greater craving for Hong Kong Restaurant between the two (lol). It's really close to campus and it was very comfortable working on an problem set while eating Pork Lo Mein. I also got an order of Fried Bananas to take back to the dorm before they closed for the night and it was delicious. Will definitely return soon!

Tasty food—even staples like Kung pao chicken have an extra zing. The staff is cordial and helpful. Menu is surprisingly affordable for Harvard square.
Update: 10/2021 - Delivery from here is consistently late by about 20-30 minutes (It's a 10-min drive to my place.) Both times I ordered delivery, I had to call them to ask when my food was coming. The food is still great but delivery needs work.

Pretty good for a late night meal or possibly the start of a night out. The food is your standard american Chinese food, but it's pretty good for what it is. I think the availability of better versions of the same thing in Cambridge dulls the appeal a little, but if you're constrained to Harvard square it's a great choice. The drinks are mostly meh but the scorpion bowls are a blast (and a kick in the kidney) if you are with a group. I think the main appeal of this place is as part of a night out, either to their internal karaoke or as a pre game (heavy drinks) or post game (greasy

I would give zero stars if that was an option. I do not know what happened to the old staff but I've seen newer people there and the quality of the service and the value has dramatically changed. I have been eating at this business for around 8 months and then all of sudden I was told that I cannot eat outside even though I bought food and I was told that I could in the past. I have been given the wrong order more than once. There are better local businesses to support around the area. Disappointing customer service.

This place is OG. It's actually 4.5 but I rounded down as it was my first real visit in a LONG time. Value is guaranteed! 5 there. Foods were American Chinese and rated 4. Jessica our server was fantastic. She repeated orders. Asked us where we were from (Hawaii, the Philippines, Cali, and Thailand). Jessica promised to take care of our niece (Harvard Freshman). We liked the corn soup, fried chicken wings, and shrimps with broccoli. 10 shrimps for $14.99!!! Don't need to go to Harvard to go to Hong Kong!!!!

The service was nice, and the staff were friendly. The atmosphere had low lighting which I wish was brighter. On the whole, the food was good for a fast food Chinese style restaurant. I enjoyed their eggplant in spicy sauce, their spicy dry green beans, their egg friend rice, and their vegetable tempura. The tempura came with an apple sauce for dipping which was unique yet delicious. The fact that this place is open late is really nice. I recommend if someone wants an affordable meal that will fill you and make you feel warm on a cold day.

2 and 1/2 stars. Since there is no half in the ratings, so it got 3.
Average American-Chinese restaurant, served up some familiar dishes that people in America is familiar with. It generally has no style of any region in China. This hodge podge approach would satisfy the mass, but bothers the heck out of the "foodie" whom would look for some style of cooking to pin on.
We stay away from its big fat egg rolls, and its greasy fried rice. Instead, we asked for basil chicken, garlic pepper shrimps, and stir fried bok choy. We ate them over steamed rice. The bok choy was the best. Hot wok did wonder

Due to covid restrictions right now, I ordered takeout which is fast. The cashier is polite and helpful. The food is so-so, but the prices are reasonable and potion size is big. The lunch combo is a good deal. Perhaps if this restaurant puts some effort in renovating itself (both inside and outside), it could have been able to command higher prices. As it is now, this is chinatown decor, chinatown prices, almost chinatown food.
Parking is always a royal pain in the heart of Harvard Square. But this is very conveniently located, right off of the Harvard Sq T stop (maybe 50 steps from the exit

Never again.
All done with this place.
Totally understand with covid business is tough but trying to serve leftover pu pu platter dried out food that could hardly be chewed and claiming it was cooked fresh is discusting. Even the rice that you took off the bill came to the table cold!
Very disappointed.
Place was good for years but not anymore.
Will stick to the kowloon for much better food.

Hong Kong is 3 stories tall in total. The first floor is the restaurant, the second floor is the karaoke bar, and the third floor is the club. This review will only be for the karaoke bar since that's the only area we checked out.
I came here with a group of friends for a chill night to celebrate my friend's birthday. The bar area is pretty cool and it's a very casual environment. They have pretty of tables and bar seating and the roof is decorated with multiple colored Christmas lights. They are well known here for their cheap and big scorpion balls which are very tasty! If you're looking for GOOD Chinese food, go to China town. If it's 2am and you're looking for grub after a long night, and perhaps you want a scorpion bowl to chase the food down and keep the party going, this is the spot. Warning, try not to go here sober, BUT if you're not and you're with friends, end your night here!

Based on the food quality, I'll give 2 stars. I put 3 stars here because I was actually in a rush (I did not tell them) and I got my order really fast, really really fast.
Now let's talk about the food. The restaurant name is "Hong Kong" but they don't serve Cantonese food... I was really disappointed when I saw the menu, but I feel bad leaving the restaurant without ordering anything. They don't even have Hong Kong style milk tea...
I ordered the pork lo mein. On their Chinese menu, they used the word "char siu" rather than "pork", so I was expect

Hong Kong is definitely the place to go to when you are drunk and feel like you want fake Chinese food that is just loaded with sauce. It's the typical Americanized Chinese restaurant. Nothing too special. The prices are reasonable for the amount they give you. It's a good thing they close late at night because that is when I crave fake Chinese food.
If you stop by, crab rangoons, scallion pancakes, and the noodles are safe.

Passable but lower end run of the mill American-Chinese food. Staff a wide-ranging mix from polite to entirely unprofessional and rude to customers. An older gentleman who seems to be the owner is quite professional and pleasant but a younger middle aged guy is very rude, unhelpful, and acts as if he does not want your business. Treats regular customers badly, not even bothering to look at them when interacting, speaking nastily, and is more concerned with playing on his phone. As a regular customer over 3 years I've now had multiple bad experiences with the latter guy and other staff,

Very cozy, clean and authentic restaurant. The food is very fresh and so delicious. It seems like everything is prepared fresh, like homemade. I loved hot and sour soup. Dumplings are amazing and the portion is good for 2 (if taken as an appetizer). Moo Shi is huge and sooooo good!!! Personal is nice. Prices are very reasonable. You can't leave this place hungry

So who knew that Harvard students liked to get down at a Hong Kong restaurant - turned nightclub at night? I can only vouch for the night life at this restaurant, but it was a pretty cool place! I came here with friends on a Friday night visiting Boston from California. I never saw the restaurant since right when we entered, we walked up the stairs to the second floor bar area. Maybe that was the restaurant, but there were too many bodies and the bar really stood out to me. After hanging out there for a bit, we walked up the stairs to the third floor where there was a $5 cover to get to the dance
