My dad, Dick Gurnon was a salesman and he called on a man who had just opened a tiny hardware store in a basement on Charles street. The year was 1948. After awhile Dick started to work part time and on weekends in the store and soon became partners in 1952. During the early 50's CSSC moved out of their tiny basement and moved to an expansive space of 1500 square feet at 43 Charles Street.
We offer delivery service to Back Bay, Beacon Hill, West End, North End, waterfront and Cambridge. Delivery fee may apply, please call for details. We're also known to deliver to Cape Cod in return for a weekend stay. We offer delivery from Monday through Saturday, from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM, scheduled within two hour time slots.

This is my first time leaving a Yelp review, because my experience at Charles Street Supply was outstanding.
I was in desperate need of solutions to deal with completely stripped furniture screws (the rubber band trick only goes so far!), and the owner helped me through the entire process. He helped select an ideal replacement screw set, and he walked me through a more sophisticated method for removing the stripped screw. He even let me borrow his own screw extractor drill bit for the weekend to get the job done. The owner truly goes above and beyond, and I saw him interact this way with other

The heart of beacon hill. Extraordinary range of products, superb team who can provide invaluable advice and opinions, including connections and recommendations if you need services or help with anything home or hardware related. Owned by the Gurnon Family, and operated with love and care. LOVE Jack's Hardware!!!

This is the best hardware store I've been to. The prices are very fair, they have a great selection, and the people working there were super helpful and extremely knowledgeable. They worked with me to find what I needed, even though I wasn't exactly sure what that was going in. I'll definitely be back!

Incredibly helpful workers!!! I went in looking for some stuff for my new apartment, the man at the desk immediately helped me find everything I was looking for and even let me borrow their Stud Finder for the evening for a smaller project!
They couldn't be nicer and more efficient!! Will definitely return for any and all future hardware needs :)

I have had so many great experiences at this store! The staff is knowledgeable, helpful, and patient. I always walk away feeling confident in the staff's advice and carrying exactly what I need in hand. They have made two moves far less stressful than they could have been. Still, my favorite part might be the cat that hangs around the store!

I had a very specific request for some plumbing item and I thought for sure they would not have it in stock. I walked in and asked the gentleman at the front desk and it took him all of three seconds to get me in the proper section of the hardware store. The prices were very very reasonable given it is located in the heart of Beacon Hill.
Very family oriented store versus the big Home Depots. They have a family cat that roams around the store however mostly just sits up in the window area people watching.
The store is small and intimate and might not carry everything however they always seem

Stopped in on our way to the July 3rd Pops on Esplanade. So hot, needed umbrella for shade knowing full well they would take it at the gate. The nicest gentleman came out of the store after us and gave us another one someone left behind. Umbrellas are a best friend standing in line in near 100 degree weather.
So very nice of him. Chivalry is still alive. Thank You!

They have everything you need, they know how to help, and they care more about making sure you get the right product than spending a lot of money - which means a lot to me, since I generally don't know what I'm doing when I walk in. For a smaller spot, they've never once turned me away due to not having what I need in stock.

Longtime neighborhood--posh neighborhood store and resource. A wide selection of tools, hardware, light bulbs, small appliances, cleaning supplies, and assorted goods. I've only stopped in randomly after work. Sometimes I have been lucky here sometimes not so much. The other day stopped in a for a quick purchase of no trespass signs--clerk helped me find them, and it was a busy time. They have a whole workshop area downstairs/on a lower floor. I was there late day/rush, but cashier was nice, again even though I think they were pretty busy, people waiting to talk to the clerks on the phone

Ok.... So, I don't live anywhere near this place, but I ALWAYS stop in when I come into the area. It is EXACTLY what I WISH my local 'hardware' store was/is, and they always seem to have that 'something' I've been looking for or thinking about. And another huge incentive, for me, beyond the truly wonderful staff, is the ubiquitous 'shop cat'. Just today, i went by and saw 'Totes' for my mid-tour 'kitty fix'.
I really, really, love this place and will always see my way in for a visit. Can say I wish I lived close enough to patronize them

Here is where one will undoubtedly find helpful service within the cheery walls of a small (read: manageable) non-chain hardware store much like the ones many us remember in our neighborhoods growing up.
Given how many times I pop in this place you'd think I'm the handiest person in the world but I'm not. That title goes to my husband. Nonetheless I love roaming around hardware stores but the big box versions can sometimes leave me uninspired and overwhelmed.
I come here now and again, to have keys made, for some kind of gadget, for advice on projects and to find just about
