OUR TEAM is amazing! We specifically choose each of our staff members for their friendliness and ability to build relationships with children. Not every person was born to interact with children all day - but we were! Charity has been a registered dental assistant for 22 years. She's a graduate of Cherokee High School and Walters State.
Our office, as well as The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the American Dental Association (ADA), and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) all recommend establishing a "Dental Home" for your child by one year of age. Children who have a dental home are more likely to receive appropriate preventive and routine oral health care.
Pediatric dentists care for children of all ages. From first tooth to adolescence, they help your child develop a healthy smile until they're ready to move on to a general dentist. Pediatric dentists have had 2-3 years of special training to care for young children and adolescents.
Research has shown that mothers with poor oral health may be at a greater risk of passing cavity-causing bacteria to their children, and periodontal disease can increase the risk of preterm birth and low birth weight. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) recommends that all pregnant women continue to visit the dentist for checkups during pregnancy.

An orthodontist receives special training to fix misaligned teeth. An orthodontist must first complete regular dental training and then has an extra four years of specialty training in orthodontics. If you have misalignment in your teeth and/or jaw, a dentist will refer you to an orthodontist. As permanent teeth begin to replace baby (or primary) teeth, we recommend an orthodontic evaluation.

Our first visit was great! I was happy to have found my child a dentist. But after today, looks like I’m on the search again! I was very disappointed in the way they handled my child, I know kids can be difficult but if you’re going to be working with kids every day I think you need to have a little bit more patience! Telling my child that she sounds like the baby in the next room crying really upset me! I mean heck I was thinking the same thing in my head, because I’m her mother! But you don’t say that out loud! You’re supposed to keep your cool, calm the kid down. I just had to refuse

This appointment today was the first dentist appointment my 20 month old son had. He was scared and crying a lot but the ladies and the dr was so patient with him and made me feel at ease
They explained everything they was doing and going to do. I’m really impressed. I will definitely be bringing my son back. Thank you for such a stress free visit

The staff is very kind and thorough in explaining the details of procedures and aftercare. The receptionist was wonderful explaining cost and insurance coverage/ billing process. I was able to schedule an appointment very quickly. Dr Helderman is also very thorough and kind. No one seemed at all bothered by crying children (which you would think is a given with peds but that hasn't always been our experience). My baby had lip and tongue ties released. We are very pleased with our experience.

Kingsport Pediatrics are awesome with my son. They make him feel very safe, comfortable and the girls there are so sweet, professional and great at what they do. The Dentist is also very kind and good at what she does. We also love seeing Lexi the poodle:) I am so glad I found them. Highly recommend!

The staff, nurses, dentist, and pediatric anesthesiologist were wonderful. They explained everything clearly and communicated the cost up front. Most importantly, they treated my child with great kindness and care. They even have a therapy dog who may have helped me more than my child. I highly recommend this practice!
