To provide a pathway to recovery to women in need of mental health services and who are often homeless; to create hope through an educational, therapeutic, and vocationally-focused program in a safe environment; to promote dignity and self-worth through employment, permanent housing, and independent living.
Services
The Women's Community Rehabilitation Center (WCRC) is a nonprofit organization of dedicated individuals committed to the mental health recovery of women who suffer from severe and persistent mental illness. Most often our clients arrive having recently been discharged from the hospital and homeless.
UpLIFTD is a 501-C-3 non-profit agency incorporated as Louisiana Industries For The Disabled, Inc. Prior to 1991, WCRC was an outside agency under the Baton Rouge City Parish. As a result of the reorganization of the Baton Rouge City Parish in 1991, it was determined WCRC would no longer be considered a City Parish agency.
WCRC is committed to providing comprehensive rehabilitation services to women with severe and persistent mental illness who are, most often, homeless. We provide a safe, therapeutic environment for our women to regain their dignity and self-worth through programs which provide them with the tools to gain employment, permanent housing, and independent living.
The Residential Treatment Program provides our clients with a 24 hour, 7 days a week, safe, homelike, therapeutic environment to practice, with support and supervision, the psychosocial skills necessary for maintenance of independent living. Each client is assigned a primary counselor upon entering WCRC to work with the client to create her Individualized Treatment Plan.
After successfully completing a number of personal goals established in her treatment plan, a client is ready to secure employment. Many of our clients, due to the severities of their mental illness, have difficulty obtaining and maintaining employment. The services provided through the WCRC Supported Employment Program (WCRC-SEP) provide our clients with the opportunity to engage in competitive employment.
