He has won numerous awards, including being named Pennsylvania's Optometrist of the Year in 2003 and the Charlie Butts Award in 2019. He enjoys solving complex vision and developmental problems for all ages from infancy to late adulthood. Dr. Lessmann is the father of a daughter with Down syndrome and understands the concerns of children with special needs and their parents.
Good vision happens in a person's brain/mind/body, not just in a set of eyeballs! Dr. Hans F. Lessmann will examine and test the entire visual system of the whole person in order to determine the very best prescription and/or the most holistic vision care solution. Our vision exam will evaluate your total visual function as well as your eye health.
Our doctors specialize in comprehensive pediatric vision exams and vision care for infants, little kids, preschoolers, children, and teenagers. There are many treatable pediatric eye and vision problems that are not be detected in a standard 20-20 eye exam. A comprehensive pediatric eye and vision exam is necessary.
Often eye and visual problems resulting from Concussions and other Traumatic Brain Injury are overlooked during initial medical assessment and treatment of the injury. When these undetected vision problems are neglected and go untreated, this delays or even prevent successful recovery of faculties, abilities and life skills.
Some visual conditions cannot be treated adequately with glasses, contact lenses, surgery, and/or eye patching and are best resolved through a program of Vision Therapy. Vision Therapy is an individualized, supervised, treatment program designed to correct visual-motor and/or perceptual-cognitive deficiencies.

Dr. Lessman was a God-send to our son. Everyone at the Vision Development Institute is so caring and Dr. Lessman is the top in his field. His knowledge, wisdom, experience and care for our son who has had strabismus and amblyopia since the age of 2 has been absolutely amazing. Dr. Lessman and his staff, especially Maria the vision therapist, have transformed our son’s vision and, in turn, his life. He is now 11 years old and his strabismus is no longer a hinderance or an issue at all. He has grown in so many ways from increasing his balance, developing his hand and eye coordination for playing

My husband had surgery that left field cuts in both eyes and, because of this, his driver's license was recalled. Dr. Lessmann worked with my husband, added prisms to his glasses, and had him do light therapy for a few minutes each day 5 times a week for several weeks. The result is that my husband increased his visual fields, passed the required visual fields test and has had the recall on his driver's license lifted. I can't thank Dr. Lessmann enough here. It means so much to my husband to be able to drive again. Thank you!

When I was 16 years old I had a tramatic brain injury that left me severe double vision. At 29 years old I was having chronic migraines, chronic neck pain, terrible anxiety and panic attacks, severe vertigo and nasea. My vision was so bad I could not see to walk or read. I couldn't ride in a car due to nasea and I would even get sick when I drove. I couldn't do any of the things I once enjoyed. I thought my life was over. I came across Dr. Lessman online and he was able to get me in within a week of calling in. Fast forward 6 weeks and I can now walk for as long as I want, I can drive long distances

I can’t praise Dr. Lessman enough for the life changing therapy he provided for our 8 year old son. His knowledge and patience with him was comforting for what we came in to see him for. Our son was having horrible headaches while reading and as a result was falling behind. His anxiety levels and self confidence were daily struggles we were dealing with. Our son had 20/20 vision and didn’t need glasses so it was very frustrating to try to help him. That’s when we learned about vision therapy and he was going to get help. 4 months later he has been reading books on his own. His scores in school

Dr. Lessman is excellent. I would recommend the light therapy treatment to anyone who is looking to improve their vision. I was skeptical at first because my vision has been progressively getting worse for several years. I had been having experiencing contact irritation, eye strain, problems with reading small script and vision problems when exercising at high intensity or playing sports. After doing the 6 week light therapy program all of these symptoms have gone away. I also have been sleeping better and noticing improved mental focus and concentration and dreaming at night. I'm very focused
