Marina Motel
Built by the son of a California Gold Rush miner, the historic Marina Motel was built to celebrate the opening of the Golden Gate Bridge in the late 1930's and is still run by the same family. Ideally situated between Fisherman's Wharf and the Golden Gate Bridge in the popular Marina District, the Marina Motel offers a one-of-a-kind, old world experience.

The first impression one has upon stepping into the motel's cobblestone courtyard is Wow! This is like a little oasis back here with birds chirping, flowers EVERYWHERE, cute little garages and rooms decorated to feel like home. I feel like I'm in Europe.

Great location, walking distance to so many great sites and dining. Beautiful courtyard with individual guest garages, and the room was cozy with great amenities (fridge, coffee maker, microwave) and small, but updated bathroom! Will stay again!!

The Marina Motel is no motel. While it is located on Lombard Street, Once you pull into the driveway you find an enchanted garden and courtyard.

The rooms are clean and some (like mine) are actually studio apartments. All the rooms are located above carriage style garages and they are extremely dog friendly.

The staff is amazing; the owner kind and most of all they truly care about each of their guests. I stayed there for 25 days (11/29/2021-12/22/2021) while my own home was being renovated. The rooms are perfect for a couples or families and especially for dog owners.

They have a little

A very unique stay with friendly staff! Love the showers here, with great amenities, and appreciate having kitchens in the suites. Only complaint — the rooms facing Lombard st are quite noisy and you have to unlock& lock the garage doors everytime you come in and out with your car.

Great stay. Beautiful flowers all over the courtyard. All front desk people super friendly. I was very surprise that it was so quite ( My room was in the center court yard) I'm not sure about the rooms facing Lombard St. Short walk to the Marina, shops and resturants .

We booked this room for our San Francisco get away. It looked local and quiet! The Marina is a fantastic gem! Built in the 30's and still in bussiness! That says something!
A little street noise during the day, but nothing like you would expect.
Our room is a step back in time! This is a good thing! With the modern stuff you would expect. T.V. ,coffee maker, microwave and fridge.
What else do you need on vacation?

So I decided to give this place another chance and this time they did way better. The front desk clerk this time did an amazing job and i enjoyed my stay this time. I was able to relax and have a good time. I will stay there again if I need to since this time they made up for their last issue by being super nice and providing excellent customer service.

Very nice stay and friendly staff. The room was very clean, and the bathroom. The bed was the best part as it was so comfortable I fell asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow. The outside of the hotel is gorgeous with numerous pretty and bright flowers. It is walking distance to a lot of restaurants and bars, but also very nice quiet area.

Charming, cozy, friendly, affordable — our stay at the Marina Motel was amazing. A hidden gem behind an unassuming street view, the courtyard garden is an incredible surprise. It’s like a boutique European-style motel with comfy rooms at a super reasonable price. Close to shops, restaurants, bus tour stop, and more — and as two women staying there, we felt very safe. A+ trip, would highly recommend.

This place is so cool!! It feels like it should be a historical hotel, it’s beautiful and the grounds are so pretty with flowers and beautiful landscaping. Not in a bad part of town either, lots of restaurants and shops within walking distance parking was a little bit difficult but that’s how it is in the city. Most of the rooms have a full kitchen with a gas stove. Really cool place. The rooms are small but the price is just incredible versus other chain hotels in San Fran.

Great location close to the Presidio and 1 block from Chestnut St with lots of restaurants. Our room in the courtyard was much quieter than rooms on the street, however, there was still street noise which woke me. I have deducted a star due to the bed, which was overly soft, and not very comfortable. The bed would make me think long and hard about staying here again, although I loved the location, the charming courtyard and the free parking in a covered garage.

Marina Motel was a marvelous place to stay to explore the Presidio and Golden Gate Bridge. A charming, welcoming courtyard hidden from the street, with friendly and personable staff who came to our rescue with a last minute room and even an unexpected discount(!!). Each room has its own personal parking garage with a padlock provided for the most security one could ask for. There was a microwave and fridge in the room, and we were grateful to find hot chocolate and tea packets provided. After checkout, they graciously stored our belongings all day for us, secured in one of their available garages

Room 12 is awful. It's noisy. The beds are old, bow in the middle and are hard. The sheets were nice though. Would not stay here again. The room is supposed to be handicap accessible. It is not. The only way into the room and out of the room is by stairs. Wooden ones, that are very noisy when someone walks up and down them at 5 am. Again, would not recommend this place. They got the basics all wrong. Oh, and for the cost.. the beds should be better. Plus, the spiders... I get all the beautiful flowers around but I saw two spiders in the room within the same night.

Paying mostly for location, this is such a beautiful and quaint escape right off the busy street. The courtyard is U-shaped and full of beautiful plants and flowers consistent throughout. The staff is wonderful, very friendly and all of them live in the city.

We were able to park our car in the garage and explore prior to checking in as well as the day we checked out. Hop skip and a jump from the bridge, and walking distance to great food. I recommend a spin scooter and take off.

I will stay again! PS try to get a back unit off of the street for added privacy and less noise.

This is one of my favorite places to stay in San Francisco. Particularly because of the free parking. The rooms are tiny and there aren't many amenities, but the location is perfect for me and again, can't beat free parking in SF.

My husband and I were weary from driving, so being welcomed by staff at the Marina Motel was a pleasant relief. We had a garden view room, which was very quiet. The plants and flowers were beautiful! The room was small, but very clean and well appointed. The bathroom was really nice.
The location is splendid for walking through the Marina District, and to the Palace of Fine Arts or the Yoda Fountain in the Presidio.
All staff members at the Motel were friendly and helpful. Special Kudos to Brendon and Tokes! Thank you for a wonderful stay.

I don't understand the horrible changes at the Marina Motel? Perhaps they have new owners? We've stayed here years back and it was dated as it is now, but clean. Our room was so dirty. The kitchen's appliances, e.g. the toaster, coffee maker, and microwave were so dirty and dusty to the point of being greasy. The kitchen towel was folded neatly but felt stiff as if it had been used and not washed. But worst of all, the mattress, it was so hard and lumpy. It creaked each time we moved and turned. We left there with so much body pain. A horrible experience!

Complete scammers!
I reserved a room for the night to stay with my mom and my ESA dog online.. I even called the night before to make sure it was okay to have my ESA dog with us.
Upon arrival the woman at the font desk told us that they had no idea that we had an ESA dog and that they no longer had any rooms left for us that could accommodate us. They could, however, manage to find a room for us for an additional $125... this is more than the entire room cost!
The hotel is refusing to refund our money for the room and is trying to scam us into paying an additional $125.
On top of giving away

Garage parking per unit, cute courtyard, and a small driving distance to some really good food. On top of that, the beds were comfortable af. There's really nothing more you can ask for for such a decent price! The only downside was not knowing how to turn down the v old school heaters. We will definitely check back in here when we swing by SF again.

Room 50, the WiFi does not work, hot water to the kitchen sink is NFG, had to have an attendant turn on the heat, motel fax does not work. The management blames me for stuff not working, 'you gotta do this, and that to make things work'... Well the WiFi password you gave me is NFG. NOW WHAT? A Russian Shrug is the result. Room service is a third party $20 minimum, totally sucks because I throw away food.
Parking for a full sized pickup, van, suv. NFG - garages too small

We stayed here one night and loved how beautiful the courtyard is. It was nice that parking is included. But.. BEWARE! Do not get a room on the street. Make sure you get a room in the courtyard. We had a homeless man knock on our door at 9pm. The person at the front desk came to ask him to leave immediately and then called the police. The man told the front desk clerk he was looking for his girlfriend, he might have been following us since we walked to get dinner.

Loved this place! Talk about stepping back in time the room was large with a speedster bedroom and two twins in the living area

The room had a fridge/micro and a coffee maker. The bathroom was clean and roomy with complimentary toiletries

the bedroom had a large bed and just a small amount of room on each side but was sufficient

the staff was helpful and had some free cookies in the lobby.

I loved the flowers and the courtyard and would come back next time in the area.

lots of great places to walk and eat and get coffee very close

The flowers around the motel are beautiful and make you forget about the old bed spreads and musty mildew smell inside your room. The front desk lady was very friendly at check in. Parking was nice (small private garage) and the motel location was good. Lucky Brand, Walgreens and Piano Bar are all very close.

I absolutely adore Marina Motel. It truly is a hidden gem. When you pull into the courtyard it's like Stepping into another world. If we weren't in one of the street side rooms, we would never have known we were in the middle of one of the busiest cities in the country.

I definitely recommend getting a courtyard room as the street can be noisy. It wasn't bad for me since I was in the bedroom and could close the door to muffle the noise but my friends who slept on the pull out couch bed had a hard time because their dogs couldn't sleep with the noise concerning them every so
