Renato Magno, a 6th degree Brazilian jiu-jitsu and judo black belt, has owned and operated Street Sports in Santa Monica since 1998, building a vast and devoted student base and a tight-knit, welcoming community. Actors, stuntmen, lawyers, doctors, cops and contractors all come together in an ego-free atmosphere, where the quality of instruction and training is only matched by the camaraderie and brotherhood.
All classes are presided over by IBJJF-certified instructors, who teach self-defense, sport jiu-jitsu and much more, in a safe and supportive environment. Often called "the gentle art, " Brazilian jiu-jitsu is a traditional martial art with many practical applications.

Services
Our kids classes introduce beginning and developing students to the basic principles and movements of jiu-jitsu, with a fun and rewarding curriculum tailored to fit their needs. Safety is always our first priority, and we make sure that all students are well-educated and informed as we help them build confidence, discipline and respect - life skills that resonate far beyond the mat.

Positive: Professionalism, Quality
I have been training here for a few months now and I am really enjoying it. It is a very welcoming environment especially as a beginner and I have found everyone to be really nice and helpful. The schedual is very accommodating and it really doenst matter too much which classes you attend since all the instructors do a good job.

This place is my temple, my second home in LA, it's my happy place! If you're looking for a World Class Jiu Jitsu academy where you can grow and be a part of an empowering community, look no further and come visit Street Sports Jiu Jitsu with professor Renato Magno. This guy is the definition of charisma and Loyalty, I seriously doubt anybody could dislike Renato not to mention his classes are interactive and fun. 5 stars and if I could give it a 100 it still wouldn't be enough.

This is an awesome gym. I had never done a martial art before joining as a white belt and felt extremely welcome and encouraged by the students and instructors since the first class. Professor Renato and the other black belt instructors are excellent teachers with tremendous experience and heavily stress the details to help you learn techniques correctly. Cleanliness 10/10. Perfect class schedule if you work 9-5. You will look forward to going here everyday!

Joining Street Sports is without doubt one of the best decisions I've ever made. I was immediately welcomed in by everyone and have felt part of the family ever since! In these last few years I have attended open mats, classes, private and semi-private lessons and had nothing but world class instruction and an exceptional experience every single time.

I've been training here for 3 years and all I can say is this place is special. Everyone is family and coaching (Adam, Alex, Charlie, Theo) is top notch, especially when you are able to learn directly from the legend and pioneer himself, Renato Magno.
Prior to this, I didn't have any martial art experience but joining Street Sports BJJ has been life changing both personally and professionally. Without the support of the entire Street Sports family, this wouldn't have been possible. The environment is welcoming and everyone cares for each other. On top of all of that, you are able

I have been training at Street Sports off and on for last two years. When I am not training, I miss it terribly. There is a comrade at Street Sports that is so strong. Everyone, I mean everyone, that trains there is super respectful and friendly. So many people have commented about the lack of ego and bravado and it is absolutely true. Renato and the other coaches set the tone by their openness and willingness to help every student be their best. I am always amazed how all of the coaches and other students are willing to help even struggling newbies like myself to be better. My only regret is

I totally almost joined this team. Great vibes-- brought me right back home to my old beloved Gracie team in the Bay Area. Everyone here was super chill.... for example, even though I stopped by in the middle of a class, Professor invited me right on the mats to train and offered me a week trial. No BS sales tactics here or strict rules, just bjj. And a sauna! Also a shower, which is nice.
Anyway, they are very connected in the bjj world, and a lot of people train here from all over, even 10p. SS is one of the only gyms that is actually open on Sundays and with a true open mat with friends of

If I could give this studio more stars I would! I've been coming here for about 14 years on and off and although I should be a BB by now if I had stayed consistent it's never to late. Renato Magno (The Owner/Head instructor) is amazing, not only does he pay attention to key details but he teaches techniques that you can find useful in whatever situation you find yourself in. Everyone is super cool, humble and eager/willing to work with you so you fully optimize your time there. Parking is relatively easy and the monthly co-payments are not expensive at all considering everything your

Great crew, no egos, and a level of tradition and authenticity that I like in a Jiu-Jitsu academy. They have an excellent schedule that offers morning, noon and evening classes. I find this very convenient, especially for those with hectic work schedules and family obligations at night.
Higher belts are quick to offer additional assistance to junior folks. This is a great system of mutual benefit and looking out for fellow practitioners.
Excellent technique instruction followed by a few sparring sessions.
Reasonably quiet location in west LA. Parking is easier compared to other spots in the

I've been training with Renato and Street Sports for about year now - this place and these guys make you feel welcomed and at home. I've heard stories of academies using white belts just as a means for higher belts to beat up and practice their offense on, but not here. Street Sports works to have everyone improving their game while also making jiu jitsu welcoming and fun. Couldn't ask for a better gym

Six months ago I walked into Street Sports, where Renato and the team welcomed me like family. I had taken eleven years off, but I used to train at legendary Renzo Gracie academy in NYC, so I had high standards. Everything I read online told me that Street Sports was the best academy on the West Side, but it turned out even better than I could have imagined: Renato and Renzo grew up together (small world!) and share a similar mastery of the sport and friendly demeanor, so everything felt familiar and comfortable from day one. The vibe at Street Sports is incredible - many higher belt students train

If you're looking for a great Jiu Jitsu Academy with a veteran professor Streetsports is the place to train! Renato Magno is an amazing coach and his classes are very technical and informative for all levels of experience. We also have a lot of seasoned black belts that are always willing to teach the rest of us. Everyone is very friendly and great to train with. I highly recommend trying one of our classes!

Being new in Santa Monica (and the United States) after arriving from New Zealand, I started looking around for a new Brazilian jujitsu gym (after spending two years on and off with different martial arts, including Brazilian jujitsu). My aim was to get back into shape and to start really focusing on my skills.
Straight away Renato was very welcoming and offered trial two classes. I thoroughly enjoyed both so I signed up. One of the best decisions I made in 2013.
All of the other students are very friendly and the classes are extremely fun and engaging. There are plenty of students that range

It is rare that a place earns a five star rating on YELP.com.
Street Sports Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is hands-down a five star location!
Street Sports BJJ is available to both Adults and Kids that are ready to learn Brazilian jiu-jitsu technique and self-defense. Renato Magno is a world-class instructor that personally assists each of his students with developing the fundamentals to one of the most physical and challenging sports.
In 2011 I joined Street Sports to learn BJJ and immediately received a warm welcome from Renato and the Street Sports team members. In 2012 I had to relocate cross-country
