I decided to become a lawyer after spending time as a teacher in Los Angeles. After my time teaching, I knew that I wanted to continue to help others, but in a different way. I attended law school at Willamette University in Salem, Oregon. Being an elder law attorney continues that good feeling for me.
I know what it is like to be part of making a tough decision regarding loved ones, and making sure they have the best chance at enjoying their later years with the best care there is. I have friends, who now have children, asking themselves the hard questions about what will happen with their children and their assets should there be a catastrophe.
While estate planning means many things, the simple estate plan that most people think of is their last will and testament. Without a will, there are default laws that dictate what happens to a person's estate, a process called "intestate succession." A last will can help avoid these rules and ensure an as smooth and orderly administration of your estate as possible.
Because of recent illness, long-term disability, or lack of mental capacity, a person may need to be protected in the management of their affairs. A guardianship is a request that the court appoint someone, either a family member or a professional guardian, to handle the affairs of a person, often including financial affairs and health care decision-making.

Joshua Pops is an outstanding attorney! I live in CA and my mother is in a Dementia care facility in WA. Mom needed to apply for Medicaid to cover her expensive care and I had no idea how to do this for her. While calling around Joshua's name was mentioned several times as being an expert in elderly issues and Medicaid. My Mom's matter was relatively small, yet Joshua took it seriously and worked diligently to get the result my mom needed. He was easy to reach, answered my many questions, and even kept tabs on the application once he submitted it, going above and beyond to ensure a good result

Josh Pops is our trusted family estate planning lawyer. Both my husband and I are lawyers and we would not trust anyone else to craft the estate and trust planning documents we needed to ensure the preservation of our assets and care of our children. Josh is extremely knowledgeable, straightforward, intuitive and detail oriented and is highly respected and liked in this legal community.

I've been putting off writing this for some time. I hope that it's safe to write a so-so review of a lawyer. My wife and I had Joshua Pops do each of our wills with provisions for our son who has mental illness. Mr. Pops interviewed us and told us that a "special needs" provisions would cost us $1,000 each (as we were both having a will done). He provided us with some worthwhile advice. I thought the cost was exorbitant, since the wills would be pretty much identical, except name changes; however we needed to have the wills done and he would have charged us a consultation

Joshua did an excellent job handling my deceased mother’s estate. He went above and beyond to find answers about an unusual Medicaid lien situation, and I ultimately received an inheritance because of it when it seemed unlikely. He was responsive to calls and emails, straight to the point, and overall, compassionate during a situation that nobody wants to be in. I highly recommend him.

I met Joshua in December of 2016. My sister had suddenly passed away. She was the sole caretaker for my father who was suffering from dementia and was in a memory care facility. I found myself facing the most severe crisis of my life. I had no authority to make any decisions on my father's behalf or to pay his expenses. I knew I needed to petition the court for guardianship fast! My father passed away in December of 2018. It is now July, 2019. My father's estate just closed. I could write a book on the two and a half years that has passed. Joshua was there for me like a friend from day

We worked with Joshua Pops to establish an estate plan. He listened to our needs and gave us the best possible recommendations. Revisions were handled quickly and seamlessly. Our banker commented that it was the most organized estate plan she had seen. He was kind, efficient and a pleasure to work with!

I went to Joshua for estate planning after evaluating two other attorneys in the area. I'm very glad that he was my final choice. He was able to provide me with all of the documents I needed quickly and professionally. Joshua has a thorough command of the law, and I trust him completely to advise me on any matter. It was a pleasure to work with him.

I could not be more pleased! From the very beginning Joshua treated my case with compassion, optimism, ingenuity and tenacity. I came to Joshua with what I (and others) felt was an impossible case, but Joshua was confident he could find a satisfactory and beneficial outcome. Not only did he do that, he eased my worry and made me feel comfortable with the entire process. I cannot recommend Mr. Pops enough, choosing him was one of the best decisions I've ever made!

I had a weird divorce/custody battle... To say the very very least.
Mr. Pops was honest with me from day one about what to expect and what he could and couldn't do even what he thought was reasonable and what he didn't think was reasonable. He was always respectful and upfront and I really feel like he had my best interest at heart. He worked after hours took countless numbers of irrational phone calls played counselor probably a good handful of times and at the end of the day got me everything that I was asking for within reason. I never once felt like I was mislead or he was dishonest

Josh Pops was personable, easy to work with and his sense of humor ameliorated the stress of the situation. Personality alone does not merit 5 stars, though.
I chose Josh over other attorneys I met with because he gave me the clearest understanding of what he felt he could and could not accomplish. When I retained him I had a reasonable concept of his strategy and he worked as an effective team with me to accomplish what we could. He was flexible in methods of communication, scheduling and never wasted my time. To be fair, it's rare to meet someone as personable as him as well as professional

I consulted with Joshua on a child support modification matter. Although it was counter to his interests, he ethically advised me that I COULD pursue the matter through support enforcement. He gave me the pros and cons of such an action and time to make a decision. Ultimately I elected to use his services, rather than going through the state agency.
At every turn, he made suggestions to me when he saw and opportunity for me to save money in my endeavor and when my case took a deep left turn, he stepped up to change process in order to accommodate me and see my wishes through to action.

I had an extremely difficult and unusual divorce issue that other lawyers would not take on due to uniqueness and difficulty.
From the first day meeting with Josh, I was impressed with his compassion and positive outlook on my case. His fees are some of the most reasonable in Vancouver.
Josh's legal expertise made the whole process easy to understand and financially affordable.
Joshua Pops...one of the best!
