We all need help sometimes. I provide a particular kind of therapy that's designed to help you have more satisfaction, greater peace of mind, and more fulfillment. If you begin therapy, you'll soon realize that my only intention is to help you feel and get better. Together we'd help you live the life you want to lead.

See that I'm working diligently to help you overcome your difficulties without fear of judgment. Tailoring treatment to fit your lifestyle, I offer psychotherapy that focuses on providing you with tools to deal with life's stresses and challenges. With over 25 years of experience providing psychotherapy, I believe that therapy is more than simply changing behaviors or eliminating symptoms.
Services
I'm a psychotherapist, author, and lecturer in Los Angeles. I graduated from a Masters program in Counseling Education in 1992 and obtained a Ph. D. in 1996 in Counseling Education, with a minor in Health Services. I completed an internship at the Counseling and Student Services Center at the University, furthering my counseling experience.
Tailoring treatment to you as an individual, I offer therapy that focuses on providing you with tools to better deal with life's stresses and challenges. My approach also focuses on insight, which includes exploring the reasons why you do what you do. Understanding your motivations can be very helpful in terms of finding new ways to communicate your feelings, needs, and thoughts.
The best way to find out if I'm the right therapist for you is to have a session and see if you'd like to continue. However, you're also welcome to a free consultation on the phone or at the office. The purpose of the 20 minute consultation is for you to get a sense of what it would be like to work together, as well as to ask questions about therapy and my approach.
According to a landmark study by Consumer Reports in 1995 and 2004 - therapy helps in three major ways. Foster personal growth - better self-esteem, more confidence, and more enjoyment from life. Functioning better includes developing insight into your motivations, thoughts, and beliefs. Some of your thoughts can be automatic, and they need to be brought to light and discussed in order to understand them and to change your automatic reactions.
From time to time, we can all use some help. One of the toughest questions to answer is, "How much of our challenges are due to me, how much is due to my partner, and how much is due to the dynamics between us?" I have written a book called Achieving Intimacy: How to Have a Loving Relationship That Lasts.

Dr. Cherin went out of his way to find helpful resources in my community, being that I live on the eastside of town... He was sincere and kind, he didnt have to do that. Ive called other therapist and they simply said "sorry, good luck", while Dr. Cherin reached out to his colleagues, and then texted me possible referrals... This person obviously cares about the well being of others and I appreciate your help because I was just going to give up on the problem and let it eat me away, but you gave some hope, thank you...

After 2.5 years with Dr. Chernin, I’m qualified to say he’s the best. On my way right now to do some much needed decompression.

I was fortunate to work as an intern and as a colleague of Dr. Chernin for several years and found him to be compassionate, supportive and extremely knowledgeable. I am confident in his clinical skills and have no reservations about referring clients to him.
