Oral appliances made to treat obstructive sleep apnea are also called mandibular advancement devices (MADs). They are made of two pieces of acrylic that cover the upper and lower teeth, similar to a biteguard or orthodontic retainer. These pieces are connected together by some type of apparatus that allows the appliance to be adjusted.
Since oral appliances are used to treat a medical condition (sleep apnea), the procedure is considered to be medical rather than dental. For this reason, the procedure is covered by most medical insurance carriers. Dental insurance does not cover these appliances. Treatment for simple snoring without sleep apnea is considered to be an elective procedure and is not covered by medical insurance.

Dr. Falace and his staff are amazing! I have extreme anxiety when it comes to the dentist. They were extremely professional and accommodating with my fear of going to the dentist and with the procedures that I had to have performed. They explained and told me everything that they were going to perform. He was also excellent with my 9 year old son. They made him fell comfortable in the dental chair. I highly recommend him especially if you have anxiety about going to the dentist. Dr. Falace and staff are updated on the latest dental technology. I highly respect and recommend him. I know
