When this restaurant first opened the food was really good and the portions were decent. We stopped by today to pick up an online order and almost everything was a disappointment.
The food was really bland. The cheese empanada was delicious but everything else seriously lacked any type of seasoning, even salt. What happened to the seasoning?
We ordered two large bowls and one regular. They said that they were out of the large bowls but that they added more food to the regular size bowls to make up for it. We couldn’t tell which steak bowl was which between the regular size and the large size

Had to check this hidden gem out. It’s got amazing fast casual Latin food and a wide variety of drinks from the bar or fresh squeezed. Based on their Instagram they are always doing cool cultural events and we came back for live music and dancing on Brazilian night. It was a blast! Definitely give them a try if you see one of their food trucks or pop up tents around town.

I've driven by a few times and the interior of this place is so bright, happy & especially stylish. It intrigued me so I wanted to try it. It's a very simple concept really, but reviewing the menu online was confusing. No worries because they explained it all when we arrived. It is simply a bowl with mashed root vegetables (instead of rice like Mexican food). It is then topped with meat or beans. Finally a few veggie choices of slaw, carrots & corn. The finale is the creamy sauces. Mix & match Any 2. This was so fun & different & sooo delicious!
Loved it. Got a mojito

Ate here for the 1st time in early Sept. and liked it so much I took a chance and emailed shortly after to set up a party of 8 for my birthday a few days later (this is a primarily counter service establishment and not somewhere I would expect to accommodate small events). Person I emailed with was very informative and helpful, going so far facilitate a special request for one of my guests. The staff on hand that evening were excellent and so, so kind - I know I probably drove them nuts asking for oddball stuff that is not part of their normal service model, but they managed to keep a smile on

Great small business, delicious food! Staff was really friendly and accommodating, concept is unique and fun, good amount of options. Price was a little steep for the size especially for drinks, but really good deal on high quality truffles. Very interesting flavor highly recommended if looking for new foreign food.

I finally got to try Mofongo yesterday! I have been following Mashroots since before they were a brick & mortar. So, I was crazy excited to get to stop in and check out the restaurant yesterday.
.
In case you're wondering, traditional Mofongo is fried, mashed plantains with garlic, oil, broth, and salt. It's often eaten with toppings or dropped into a soup. At Mashroots, you build a bowl with it! They have a bunch of delicious toppings to choose from. They also have other bases like yucca, taro, and sweet potato.

I got traditional Mofongo and loaded it up with chicken, vinegarette

Lets start saying that there are not many if any Puerto rican restaurants around and this one is a great start to have people learn what this cuisine is all about. Mofongo (mashed plantain or yuca) in Puerto Rico is a traditional dish that most PR restaurant serve. So if you want to step out of your Hispanic comfort zone (Mexican rest) and try something new and delicious ... here's your spot!
It's is a Great idea that they made it "Americanized" and made it like a chipotle/subway style where you can pretty much see what you can add in it.
The empanadas!!! Are just 150% worth

I heard about this place a few weeks ago and being Puerto Rican myself I had to check it out. It was pretty good. I had a bowl with Plantains, pork and salsa on top. I had their Jarritos Pineapple soda which was delicious.
BE AWARE THIS PLACE DOES NOT SELL:
-Arroz con gandules
-Pasteles
-Alcapurria
But what they do have is good. Just don't expect your typical Puerto Rican foods.
They sell more of the ROOTS of the food.

Short answer. Everything was fantastic!
Long answer, I work a short distance away in North College Hill, and have been wanting to try it for a while.
1. Perfectly packaged for delivery. Paper based packaging that seals, so no spills in the bag
2.) Steak Morongo bowl with taro root and the cilantro garlic sauce. Really delicious, perfectly seasoned and cooked.
3.) Yucca fries. So hard to find a place that knows how to prepare non potato root veggies, and these were delicious. With a side of their (spicy ketchup?) sauce. Perfectly crisp outside and not greasy.
I'm looking forward

This is a lovely spot! I grabbed the plantain bowl with chicken and vinaigrette. It tasted super fresh but I was expecting a sweeter plantain so was a bit disappointed that there wasn't a more balanced set of flavors. Everything was good so I'll be back just to try a different set of ingredients next time.

So happy to have another place for decent grub in College Hill!
Since their opening I've been able to try a couple different mofongo bowls: pork and shrimp, I can't wait to try the others. I've tried the Plantain and Sweet Potato Roots. I would say the sweet potato has a more distinctive flavor, while plantain is more subtle. I enjoyed their Spicy Mayo, more than the Garlic Cilantro, but neither is bad. Slaw has a strong pop of taste, but I think I prefer the Vinagrete, which is a pico de gallo-esque assortment of marinated vegetables.
For sides, I've tried the Fried

MashRoots was the latest food truck to visit our neighborhood and I gladly indulged. If you've never been, you put together your food bowl, starting with choice of root -- plantain, yuca or sweet potato. Then you add protein - chicken, pork, steak or black beans. Next come the toppings - black beans, vinaigrette (like pico de gallo), citrus carrots or pink slaw. Finally, you choose your sauce - pink mayo, sriracha mayo or garlic cilantro. I opted for a yuca, pork, beans and carrots and garlic cilantro bowl. I topped it with some sriracha at home. It was a generous portion, tasty and I think

Mashroots is pretty good. I think it's a nice addition to Cincy. It's like a piece of Puerto Rico right here in the Queen City. I visited Puerto Rico two years ago and it was there that I really gained an appreciation for Mofongo. It is a native dish to Puerto Rico that is so flavorful. When I saw the Mofongo Bar was opening, I got excited. I'm glad I tried them.
I got a Plantain Bowl with Black Beans, Vinagrete, and Garlic Cilantro Sauce. This combination was so good and flavorful. I picked Pork as my protein. They have different proteins, bases, toppings, and sauces you can choose
