Smohk was brought to life by two old friends, Roby and Elizabeth, who thought it would be fun to take their cooking skills to the masses. Roby is the Pitmaster and Elizabeth is the boss! They're having a smohkin' good time and really appreciate the way RVA has embraced Smohk! We were humbled to be honored as one of Richmond's top 3 Best Local Barbecue Restaurants in the 2018 Style Weekly Readers' Choice poll.

We are available for private events: weddings, business lunches, dinners, receptions, and more. We can customize our menu to suit your occasion, including specialties like shrimp and grits or our killer breakfast quiche.

Smohk is located behind a brewery off a side road in Richmond. The man and woman running the place were warm and welcoming and excellent at what they do. When i went yesterday I ordered the ribs and the pulled pork sandwich. The ribs were fall off the bone, tender, juicy and succulent - just phenomenal. The pulled pork sandwich had a great smoky flavor and their bbq sauce was quite tasty. Midway through my meal I was handed a piece if pork that was just pulled out of the smoker and almost fell over in my chair. There’s a secret to that rub! Just found, yes found, cuz you really need to look for this place. But once you do you'll love it. The brisket was juicy and so tasty. The pulled pork wasn't dry like other places. I really like the house sauce. Also enjoyed awesome Bloody Mary !! Going to go back and try one of their sandwiches

Honestly the juiciest, most tender barbecue that I’ve ever eaten before. We got ribs right of the smoker and they were so, so good. Owner is very nice and very helpful, I highly recommend this for place!

These folks catered my niece's wedding, so no comment about the obscure location, but dynamite pulled pork! We've got "BBQ" in the finger lakes region in NY, but nothing near to this. Sad life for me...

I am so glad I read the reviews telling me where to get in. I ordered online and it was just ready when I got there. The food was great, and it helped that we were starving because there is a lot of food. Bbq in Richmond, this place is a must.

Food was awesome and service was incredible. If we lived here it would be a regular. The atmosphere is very workshop industrial but don't let this fool you. It was great.

Got to walk a bit farther towards the ally than you'd think. Walk in and order, just do it. Man it was smelling great and tasted better.
Plenty of places to sit outside if you're still trying to distance, and there's indoor seating too.

Very good. Would SMOHK BBQ again.

Looked closed, but finding the entrance was worth it! I highly recommend the brisket. This is a place we will be coming back to over and over.

Edit: a cook just gave us some ribeye it was wildly good. Love the service and the food. Please try this place!

Delicious hole in the wall! Highly recommend. Get the brisket it melts in your mouth! They have the smokers right outside so you can't miss the flavor

We stopped here on our way home from VB…always trying to support local. Out of the way, all about the food space! The brisket was fantastic with plenty of bark!! Great portions in the sandwich and the bowl(grits, mac n cheese and beans were all yummy) The ribs were wonderful, so much tender meat and little bone! The Sirloin was out of this world…smokiness, tender and heaven! The sauces always make or break..and these made! We are a divided family, Smokey Apple BBQ was fantastic…but I mixed it with the Carolina Vinegar and I wanted to take it all home!!!! Sad sad sad, no bottle to go. But

Had a large Carolina on my mind with a side of baked beans. The 7 oz of meat is piled high on a soft pillowy bun. You can taste a smokiness Of the meat it is so tender juicy and flavourful The homemade coastlaw that's piled on top compliments the sandwich perfectly. The baked Beans Are like none I've ever had before there is a flavour to them that I cannot identify that is just amazing wonderful and I will definitely make you want more. If you don't know of this place that is no surprise for it is not really noticeable from the road and you either hear about it or Google bbq and it pops up either

Ok, so we were going to try out this other, but they couldn't seat us for more than an hour. Instead of waiting we looked around. Let me tell you, this place may be the most obscure place to put a restaurant, but WOW!!!!

We tried a bunch for things on the menu, only one that made it long enough to get a photo was the ribs, which were an absolute masterpiece. You want go BBQ? Give these guys a try.

Great BBQ spot in RVA. We tried the ribs, sliders, Brunswick stew, mac & cheese, and collard greens. Everything was delicious! Staff working was really nice and helpful in helping us choose our meal. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for great BBQ!

This is one of Richmond's hidden gems... if you know, you know!! It's a no frills place and I always leave feeling so satisfied with the food and the good conversation.
I highly recommend the brisket sandwich, all of the sauces, and the mac&cheese.

The BBQ was great. They smoked basically the whole meal (brisket, mac & cheese, and baked beans) the brisket was really tender and moist. Mac & cheese was pretty cheesey and done perfectly. Baked beans arent my favorite in general, but they were good! The BBQ sauces are very tasty, my favorite was the regular barbecue

With the line for ZZQ around the corner but our hearts set on barbeque, we walked through the alley to discover the almost hidden entrance to Smohk. We ordered two pulled pork sandwiches and a platter from the rather indifferent cashier. Sandwiches are $8 or $10 for a regular or large with just chips and no sides. Platters are $12 with two sides. Sides alone are all $3. Compared to other BBQ joints in the area like Saucy's this all felt a bit pricey.
