Amigo Animal Hospital is proud to serve the San Antonio and surrounding area for everything pet related. Our animal hospital is owned by Anna Mata, DVM and Angelica Tapia, DVM. Our team is committed to educating our clients in how to keep your pets healthy year round, with good nutrition and exercise.
Dr. Anna Mata graduated from Texas A&M University's College of Veterinary Medicine in 2004. Dr. Mata started her career in veterinary medicine as a veterinary technician. It was because of this and her love for animals that influenced her to become a veterinarian. Dr. Mata has worked in private practice and emergency medicine for many years as well as providing in-home services for pets and their owners.
It is our goal to offer our patients the very best veterinary care we can. We are proud of our state-of-the-art equipment, which allows us to diagnose and treat your pets quickly and efficiently. Ultrasounding is a quick and painless procedure. It uses sound waves to allow us to see inside your pets, without using the harmful radiation produced when we take x-rays.
At Amigo Animal Hospital in San Antonio, TX, we are proud to be on the cutting edge of medical technology. Radiology is a technique and diagnostic tool we use to look inside the body in an entirely non-invasive way. X-rays allow us to create images of all the body's organs. In other words, the use of radiology gives us a view of the internal organs in your pet's body that we otherwise could not see.
We are very proud of our laboratory. We are able to perform many diagnostic tests quickly and efficiently in it. We can do many simple tests but are also able to offer some more complex ones, too! We are able to run heartworm tests, leukemia and FIV tests, and full blood work for those who are interested in it.

I LOVE AAH! They are the absolute best! The Drs are always so amazing, caring, attentive, always provide above and beyond service. All my pups come to see them, even though it’s a 30minute drive from where we live; it’s worth the drive, every single time. Thank you DrT and DrM for being so awesome and keeping a positive attitude despite all the non-sense of today’s world. I love this clinic! The office and exam rooms are very clean and the staff are always friendly, helpful, and professional. The doctor is so caring and loving towards our dog. Had a Rx from my dogs oncologist. She’s In hospice and her stomach is a mess and my vet prescribed a med to help her. Rather than driving to Bandera road in traffic ( would be 45-60 minutes) I thought I would call Amigo to see if they would fill the Rx. I shared all the details and essentially the answer was no…. She had to be seen even though she has a prognosis, and is being treated in hospice. So essentially, Amigo wants the office visit fee. Not willing to assist us with this Rx. So disappointing. Will not go to this vet for my other pet or my kids pets.

I took my pet to Amigo to have a tumor growth on her front right paw removed, they did biopsy and sent to the lab for cancer results, that was on 3/24.
I called 3 times to find out the status of the lab results. I was told they would let me know. On one of those times the young lady apologized and said they had them and they would get them to me, that was Tuesday of this week. No email no call. I called yesterday and got a different young lady named Bailey who said that the lab results were in but not complete. Really? I told her I wanted a call from vet about the situation and at this time also

The clinic is doing curbside service and I have never seen inside, but the staff there is SO caring and takes great care of my jungle cat. My cat (#junglecatpeaches) is a sweet heart to me but mauls anyone else. The staff really helps as much as they can and they even call me afterwards to ask how he is doing. I've never had that level of service and care anywhere.

Highly recommend!!
My furbaby had an accident while.playing outside this weekend, rushed him in on saturday ended up with a torn lip, explained what happened, and even though they are by appt only the Dr was willing to fit him in asap. He is on his way to recovery and feeling alot better!!

I have always had dogs but I've had my pup for about 8 years now and this has been the best experience at a vet I have ever had. My dog is very skittish but extremely loving. All the staff showed genuine care for her. I appreciate all they did and would highly recommend. They kept me updated during the entire surgery. I felt assured that I had made the right choice to go here.

We love Dr. Tapia and her staff. My kiddos know where we are when I pull into the parking lot and Duchess starts whining and Duke's so excited he jumps out the car seat and they both are waiting for me to stop and open the door! They both love this place. I can be a "helicopter" mom with these two , but Dr. Tapia is always patient and listens to my concerns. I'm always anxious any time I gotta leave these guys, but I always feel less anxious when I leave them here because I know they are in good hands with Dr. Tapia and her technicians

I'm so glad that I found this little place. It's kind of hidden, so I maybe wouldn't have ever known about it had I not gone online and looked up reviews for a well rated place near me. The reviews were spot on- this is a caring clinic, with a staff full of friendly faces and great conversation. You can tell that they really love what they do.

If i could give this place 0 stars i would! BEWARE they only care about MONEY they do NOT care about the health or well being of your fur babies!! Anna at the front is extremely rude and insensitive, horrible customer service. They would not sell me ONE flea treatment for my kitty who has been a patient there for over THREE years!! He has been neutered, groomed, had all of his bloodwork done with them, & they wont sell me ONE god damn flea treatment for my baby without making an appointment and spending hundreds of dollars, now he will probably get worms because of THEM!! screw this vet clinic

Great group of people. Very caring staff. Dr. Mata is wonderful. Yelp brought me to this vet when I moved to San Antonio. It was a great choice. Yesterday I had to have my 17 year old kitty sent to Rainbow Bridge. The staff went above and beyond to help me through this very difficult time. Everyone was so understanding and that made me feel better even though it was sad to lose my baby. I highly recommend Amigo Animal Hospital.

Dr. Mata and the entire staff have been nothing but courteous and friendly, and have gone out of their way to make my very skittish dog feel as comfortable as possible whenever she has an appointment. My issue is that recently, the hospital has added a $10 technician charge to every visit. In my opinion, the prices were already rather high prior to this increase. I told myself that I was paying for the convenience of proximity however, since I live less than a mile away. I just had to say THANK YOU to Dr. Tapia and the staff at Amigo Animal Hospital for doing an emergency surgery on my Shih'tzu, Holly! She had puppies last Sunday and had been going downhill ever since. I took her in yesterday after work and they went ABOVE AND BEYOND to operate. Turns out she had a very bad infection and almost died. Without the help and dedication from the Amigo Animal Hospital staff, my girl Holly might not be here today! We recently moved to this area and needed a good vet.Well we definitely found two GREAT vets! Dr. Mata and Dr. Tapia were great with both of our babies.We originally went in when our 19 year old dachshund mix was having issues.Since her visit she has completely recovered and is even better now than she has been in awhile. We also have a 5month old German Shepard who we took in to for his wellness exam and shots.The entire staff is always friendly and helpful. We have been about once a month and we never have a long wait time which is definitely a plus.With that being said we have never felt rushed

My German Shepherd bit the neck area of our poodle so i brougt him to Amigo as it is the closest veterinarian clinic. The doctor was out to lunch and the technicians said they could not help us. With my dog bleeding in my arms, I asked if they could call the doctor. They refused to interrupt her lunch. I couldn't believe that there isn't a plan of action in place to interrupt the doctor at least to return to the clinic within a reasonable time. Thankfully, St Francis of Assisi veterinarian clinic located further down Potranco road was able to help save my people's life. I will be
