St. Matthews Animal Clinic is a special place-with lots of special people, including our staff of five experienced veterinarians who are passionate about pet care! The clinic was founded by Dr. Bruce Catlett, a man who was very dear to his clients because of his willingness to help everyone who came to the clinic.
Did you know that accreditation for animal hospitals is voluntary? Surprising, isn't it? Nearly 60 percent of pet owners believe that their pet's veterinary hospital is accredited when it is not. In actuality, only 12-15% of animal hospitals have gone through the accreditation evaluation process by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA).
Authorization to Release Veterinary RecordsIn accordance with the Veterinary Practice Act regarding the confidentiality of patient medical records, a written authorization or other form of waiver executed by the client or an appropriate court order or subpoena is required in order for St. Matthews Animal Clinic to produce copies of your pet's medical records.
St. Matthews Animal Clinic is active in the St. Matthews and greater Louisville community through involvement in a number of animal welfare events and charities. Our practice works closely with The Animal Care Society, Shamrock Pet Foundation, Saving Sunny Foundation, as well as the Woodstock Animal Foundation to offer charitably discounted medical services from our doctors for rescued dogs and cats throughout the year.
At St. Matthews Animal Clinic, we have the very highest standard of care for our patients. That's especially true when it comes to surgery; all of our veterinarians are qualified surgeons. Of course, our practice performs many common surgeries, such as spay and neuter procedures, growth removals and oral surgery.

I took my cat there today for acute vomiting. I told the staff my cat hates the vet and is a black belt ninja assassin.
So the Dr calls me after "Thor" (my kitty's name) was in there for 15 minutes and tells me they can't see him because of him hissing and he's hostile. She tells me they can't see him because she has 3 surgeries and can't sedate him. They send me home with nausea pills and a bill for 125$. No how is that fair? How do they justify charging me a visit and didn't even access him? So I will no longer go there and I suggest you may want to stay away too and go somewhere that will treat

I made an appointment for dog grooming almost a month in advance based on recommendation from a colleague. I emailed vaccination records 20 days in advance of appointment—no response. When I received phone call to confirm the day prior to appointment, I had to resend records (they couldn’t find them, email address was correct, I confirmed). Then, after resending records, I received a text that they require biannual bordetella (our vet requires annual).
How was I supposed to know this? Offered either option for our dogs to see their vet (to “establish a relationship”) or reschedule. Waited

I am absolutely in love with the staff and the quality of care. They are so kind and always try to work you in if they can. Very good prices as well. No complaints at all and I have been going here for about a year and a half now with two cats and a dog.

Awesome vet!!! Everyone has been extremely kind, helpful, and caring from the first time I called them. I was super impressed with St Matthews…the staff are great and Dr Michalski was thorough and knowledgeable and she took time to answer all my questions. We just moved to town and they got us an appt immediately so that my fur baby doesn’t get behind on his heartworm treatments (I adopted him from the shelter a couple months ago-heart worm positive 😔). They followed up with pricing estimates as requested and, I can tell you after starting his treatment in Dallas, their prices are very reasonable

I am always impressed by you guys. The vets and vet techs are gentle with the animals and are very caring and empathetic. I always feel like my animals are in good hands with you guys. Also I can always get in quickly for small pet care emergencies.

I spent all morning calling around from place to place because my foster kitten wasn’t doing well at all and could barely stand. They heard how worried I was and let me bring her right in. We were in and out so quickly and the staff was so kind and thorough. The next day my kitten was running and playing!

Not only did they get me in immediately, they saved my kitty, called to keep me updated, and it didn’t cost a fortune. Thank you so much for everything. Jasper wouldn’t be here without you !! I would highly recommend.

Their sign says, “The Clinic with a Big Heart,” and for my pup and me, that couldn’t be more true! The staff and the doctor were so amazing today when we needed them, and my pet is not a normal patient here, so they didn’t have to be. If I lived closer, this would be my vet...without a doubt! Kind, compassionate, knowledgeable, professional, and efficient are all words I would use to describe the St. Matthews Animal Clinic! Thank you again from the bottom of my heart!
