What a great place to get my 4 year old started with Martial Arts. My kid lacked the confidence to join the classes the first few times, but all of the instructors including Sensei Roger took the extra time and effort to help my kid join the rest of the class. Now that he has joined on, he can't wait to get every class. Just in the first few months, his confidence has skyrocketed. I appreciate that the classes focus not only on discipline and self-control, they are taking the time to work on techniques all while keeping it fun. Thank you all for the extra efforts you put in to get my

Kensho Martial Arts is a transformative experience, and one of the best decisions I've ever made. Exceptional training, knowledgeable/amiable instructors, and a close-knit community comprised of students and parents. Roger Luri is the real deal, and his curriculum will bring about noticeable results in just a few classes!

I can only speak to this place as the parent of a 5 year old budding martial artist. That being said, it's a wonderful studio with great teachers. My daughter really enjoys the classes and they do an excellent job of teaching discipline, martial arts and adding in calisthenics. If you are looking for a place to get your child into martial arts, look no further.

This is truly a great studio. I was blown away by everyone's friendliness from the instructors and students as well. It is my first time trying kickboxing, they definitely do work your whole body out. I got a great deal with the four weeks of unlimited classes for $40 from Groupon. I would definitely continue if it fit my work schedule better, unfortunately it does not. I started off with a private 30 minute introductory course, then headed straight in to the mixed level kickboxing class. Those classes consist of kickboxing, partner/individual kickboxing drills and general fitness. The environment

Kensho is the martial arts gym experience I've been looking for. Friendly instructors, family atmosphere, teaching multiple systems than all tie together, and Sensei Luri is a very patient and knowledgeable teacher. The facilities are clean, environment is fun, the team is amazing, and you are guaranteed to learn something about martial arts and yourself that you didn't know before!

Kensho martial arts is an amazing place for my children to learn martial arts in a safe, supporting environment which is also challenging and disciplined. Roger and Christine the owners are amazing, and the parent community is warm and positive. Our kids have been going for 3 years and it has helped them tremendously.

GREAT GREAT GREAT.
Roger Luri is the real deal, period. He has over 30 years of experience not practicing martial arts, but teaching them. His resume includes a 5th degree black belt, national rankings in Muay Thai and Savate, and a former lead instructor position at Degerberg. He counts Dan Inosanto as mentor (one of a handful of people certifed by Bruce Lee to teach Jeet Kune Do or JKD), and MARRS founder Ron Balicki and Eric Paulson as close friends (look them up).
So, OK, credentials. Lots of them. What are the classes like?
The intro classes are the Kensho Kickboxing Blend, rooted in kickboxing

Having been an avid UFC fan for 5 years, and particularly enjoying listening to Joe Rogan and learning about the intricacies of MMA, I decided I was keen to try either BJJ or kick boxing,...... I was torn between both, and decided on kick boxing in the end because I felt that it would be a little more effective at getting me leaner and achieving my personal goals. My other passion is tennis, and I also felt that kick boxing would be a little less taxing on my joints/ shoulders/ arm etc, so it made sense for a number of reasons....
My wife Googled "kick boxing Chicago", and after looking at a number

I started attending classes at Kensho about a year ago with no martial arts experience and have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Kensho.
The quality of instruction, content and structure of classes, and facility are all top notch. Classes consist of a combination of challenging partner drills, heavy bag work, and the practice of a variety of martial arts forms such as traditional boxing, Muay Thai, Savate, and Filipino martial arts. The atmosphere is also very welcoming - students are friendly and supportive of each other. Kensho has truly helped me improve my patience, discipline, and self confidence

Since I'm coming up on my four year anniversary at Kensho, I decided that it's about time I update my review. Wow, four years, I can't believe it. To think that four short years ago, I was having cocktails at brunch and laughing about the prospect of becoming a martial artist. Ah, memories!

In these past four years I have come a long way, and so has Kensho. They've moved into a space that's about 4 times bigger than the place they started out, they have tons of new equipment, and have expanded the schedule. They have something for everyone, from the two year old starting

My son started in the Little Ninjas program when he was five years old. Now he's nine and still loves coming to class! The instructors keep classes fun, while also giving the kids a solid workout as they train and learn new techniques. I like that alongside the martial arts skills they are developing, the classes encourage them to be respectful to others, to be responsible, to have confidence, and to treat people with kindness. Kensho Martial Arts has had a positive influence on my son...and also on me! After years of watching my son train, I finally decided to begin taking classes myself

Unfortunately, my trial began around the time winter vacation is for college students, so the first day of my trial the instructor wasn't Roger, who everyone else seems to review. The person facilitating the class was a young man on college winter vacation. I understand he was young, but he was a little too playful. One of the students who I believe was a green or purple belt told me the classes weren't usually that relaxed. In addition, the class was mixed levels, but again due to the holidays things were different the week I started the trial.

My orientation wasn't thorough and

Kensho is a great martial arts program for kids! You can tell how passionate Sensei Roger and Sensei Mike are about martial arts and how much they care about all the kids. My son has been going to Kensho for 6 months now and he loves it! It's an awesome program that teaches martial art skills, as well as discipline and respect. I wish I could give Kensho 10 stars!

I love this place!! Every time I go in to take a class I end up feeling better about myself. I feel like I am getting a solid workout, making great new friends, and am teaching my body valuable lessons while having fun. Even as an adult, martial arts is what I look forward to at the end of every day! It's more than just a workout class, its a community! :)
The instructors blend in just right amount of fun and focus- they are experts in this field and passionately pass on their knowledge to each and every student. The small class sizes are great, too, because I feel like I am always getting help

You really can't go wrong studying martial arts with Roger Luri. I mean, he's basically got his PHD in every kind of self-defense/martial art you can name.

In the month I trained with him, not only did we cover familiar stuff (boxing and muay thai) but we got into savate and kali which I personally had zero background in and really loved.

Roger runs the class pretty loose and the students all seem comfortable. My gripe is that there is no or very little sparring. Roger's big focus is technique and doing things with good form.

He offers a super-cheap intro month which is highly
