We all know the feeling of anxiety before going to a job interview or before an important test. The feeling of our heart pounding, palms sweating, dry mouth and scattered thoughts. That is fear. It motivates us to prepare for a challenge, to stay safe and think ahead. It helps us avoid danger and prepare for success.
If you feel an urgent need for help, if your thoughts or emotions are overwhelming you right now, see your doctor immediately or call 911. Then call us-we'll help you get past this urgent phase, back to a life you want. Depression is a very common illness that involves ones thoughts, feelings, behaviors and physical sensations.
Unhappy with how you look or feel? Feel out of control with food? Secretly trying to cope with behaviors that embarrass or scare you? As you will see in the information that follows, there are many faces to Eating Disorders. However, one of the most common characteristics is that it is something you do in private - trying to go it alone, be strong and suffer in silence.
Did you ever have this experience? You have been learning better communication techniques; you are ready to listen to your partner and use your new skills to begin a good conversation about something important. Then, your partner says a sentence or two and suddenly you realize your heart is starting to pound, your mind is starting to scream, "it's not fair" or "you don't understand me!" and the listening and nice communication exercise is over.
