Dr. Abernethy grew up in Concord, North Carolina, however, she has called Raleigh "home" for the past 20 years. She came to Raleigh to attend college and graduated from Meredith College Magna Cum Laude in 2001 with a BS in biology and a minor in chemical physics. Dr. Sonner was born and raised in Raleigh NC, and she attended both UNC Wilmington and North Carolina State University.

It is a specialized field of dentistry focused on restoring unsightly or missing teeth back to a natural looking, aesthetically pleasing state. Cosmetic dentists can achieve this goal using several different procedures, all tailored to each patient's unique treatment plan.
Your initial appointment usually will consist of an examination that typically takes 60-90 minutes. This will allow the doctor and her team time to complete a thorough and comprehensive exam. This includes a tooth by tooth assessment, periodontal screening, complete records to establish a baseline, and a recommendation for hygiene therapy based on their personal assessment.
Our primary goal is not to allow the cost of treatment to prevent you from benefiting from the quality care you need or desire. In our office, we strive to maximize your insurance benefits and make any remaining balance easily affordable. Our fees are based on the quality materials we use and the time, effort and skill required in performing your needed treatment.
At Renaissance Dental Center we make every effort to provide you with the finest care and the most convenient financial options. To accomplish this we work hand-in-hand with you to maximize your insurance reimbursement for covered procedures. We file to all insurance companies to assist our patients with reimbursement.

I have been a patient at Renaissance Dental for about a year now and love my experience going there. Dr. Sonner is my dentist and Caitlin is my hygienist. They are real professionals really care about me as a patient and give me a comfortable feeling regarding my dental health. The entire staff is awesome! I have been coming to this dentist office for years and will be coming here for many more. They people here are very kind and friendly. They are also very accommodating to people who are scared of the dentist office. The office itself has a very nice atmosphere and there are drinks in case you are thirsty. Definitely recommend!

The best care!! I have always felt listened to and like you have an actual relationship with the entire staff. I never feel rushed, and the office is always clean and comfortable- the atmosphere is so relaxing and puts you at ease. The staff is extremely friendly and amazing at communication. Highly recommend.

I absolutely love Renaissance Dental! From the moment I walk in the door, I feel welcome and cared for. The receptionist is friendly, thorough and professional and Dr Abernathy and her assistants are like rays of sunshine! I am petrified of going to the dentist, but have felt comfortable and considerably less anxious since being seen at Renaissance Dental. Just moved from Charlotte to Raleigh looking for a Dentist and I found my new Dentist at Renaissance Dental. The staff there were amazing, from my calling to set up an appointment to my visit and to my checking out. I actually look forward to my visits to the dentist office now and encourage you to give them a try if you’re feeling uneasy. Dr. Abernethy is incredibly gracious and was quick to let me know that I am in charge when I am in her office receiving care. My hygienist today, Stacy, was both gentle and thorough. Everyone is courteous and kind. Even with a very SHORT wait time—Don’t expect to be in and out in 45 minutes! Doing things right takes time. But you will be treated with respect and given great service. Beautiful, comfortable, clean office and waiting area.
