Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a martial art focusing largely on grappling and ground fighting. It focuses on the principles of leverage and proper technique to obtain dominant control on the ground, and provides a greater position to resolve conflict by using submission holds.
BJJ has been proven, when used properly, to be an effective method for dealing with bigger and stronger opponents and has become increasingly popular due in part to its great success in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).A student can train in BJJ for self defense, sport jiu-jitsu (and submission grappling) and mixed martial arts competition.

We began attending classes for my boys on 1/14/22, from a classmate's referral. Scheduled a trial class, the boys seemed to enjoy, enrolled the 4-7 class without using up 2 more free classes. Never got to speak w the coaches. Not personal at all. But it's a martial arts class... Although I've definitely been to different setups in my search. Eduardo asked us to order the gi, didn't give specific information, so we ordered plain ones that were more lightweight. Attended 2 weeks, and all of a sudden I get a call from Eduardo today with him leaving a voicemail around noon saying

Amazing atmosphere to train in. Surely the best in Medellin! Highly recommend this room for anyone at any level to attend. Whether youre new to the game or are rolling competitively, this room is packed with respectful practitioners and competitors willing to give a hand or exchange tough rolls.

How about discussing costs of drop ins or the price of membership over the phone considering that not every single person wants the "in person aggressive sales pitch"
Despite the credentials, the business practices of the staff I spoke with here feel predatory and underhanded. Can't speak to what the people are like or the quality of instruction is but seriously could you give off a more shady vibe? This is Cobrinhas HQ, home to a legend of the sport but it felt like I was being roped into a multi-level marketing scheme.

I found Cobrinha Jiu-Jitsu through a business connection who spoke very highly of it, having trained there for over 10 years and wanted to try it out. It was very easy to sign up for 2 free classes online and try the club out before joining. The staff are very friendly and all the other students made me feel welcome right away. It is a really great workout, and there is a lot of focus on core and neck strength since you are grappling so spend a lot of time on the mat. I have done 4 classes so far and have really really enjoyed them all. I would highly recommend trying it out.

One of the best Jiu Jitsu spots I have ever been to. Teaching by all instructors is VERY technical. Cobrinha also teaches regularly and consistently. The school has a place for everyone, whether you want to compete or just learn the art there is a class for everyone. Also a lot of high level belts and good competitors at the school.

Here's what's most important to know about Cobrinha, and really any martial arts school:
The head instructor, Rubens "Cobrinha" Maciel, is a true Jiu-Jitsu grand master. He's a multiple time world champion.
What that means is that if you earn a belt under Corbinha, it *actually means something.*
Top level jiu-jitsu players from all over the planet will nod in appreciation if you tell them "I'm a _____ belt under Cobrinha."
It's true that you can learn Jiu-Jitsu, and even get really good at it, by training at a school where the head instructor

Positive: Quality
Most inviting and motivating experience you could imagine in your jiu jitsu journey. At this gym you will be trained by some of the best in the world at a personal level. They will remember your name everyday and remember your strengths and weaknesses which was unbelievable to me as a beginner. Could not feel more at home here.

If you’re interested in competition jiujitsu, there is no better option. If you just want to learn a great martial art and have fun, this is also the best place to be.This academy has an incredible community atmosphere where ego is left at the door. Cobrinha is the most inspiring and knowledgeable person you will find and his fellow instructors follow that lead. I love this place and all of the people in it.

This is the best place to train!! Top level competitors as well as top level instruction! As a hobbyist practitioner, sometimes I get intimidated by bjj academies but Cobrinha’s environment was immediately welcoming and friendly. Joining as a new member, I was treated like I’ve been part of the family for years. Highly recommend!

The greatest Jiu Jitsu Man to ever live! Not only as a competitor but as a teacher!
I have trained for 7 Olympics and trained or have been trained by some of the greatest teachers and athletes in the world.
Cobrinha, Danny Inosanto and Dan Gable are the standard I measure every teacher by!
The academy is extremely clean, friendly and the best Jiu Jitsu instruction in the world!
Bonus Tip:
Take a private lesson from Cobrinha and see how you are supposed to be taught and how you are supposed to learn!

Amazing gym and great training. Came in for a morning session while visiting LA and got in some rounds. Sadly, Cobrinha was away but the class was led by one of his black belts. My only, slightly negative, criticism was the price. I was charged $60 for a day pass. There was no option to just do one session. This seems a bit high. With that said, I was at a world class gym :)

Loved every second of my class!
I was a little scared at first but hey everyone started somewhere. Coaches are super friendly and make you feel so comfortable showing techniques very slowly so you can understand what you are actually doing. So excited to come back there and highly recommend to try it! You don't lose anything they offer free trial class :)

I can't say enough good things about this place. I took my son here (5-years old) to start learning BJJ and the instructors and personal here are on a different level - they are so patient and care so much about these kids it was and is truly heart warming. If you're thinking of getting your kids into BJJ this is the spot for you! Don't hesitate! 10-stars all the way around. Thank you guys.

Wonderful, clean and welcoming facility. I'm only able to attend the competition classes, and they are exactly the way you would imagine; competitive! All of the regular student-athletes who train there are very down to earth and easy to get along with, all thanks to the leadership of Cobrinha himself. His high standard for conduct and expectations are felt throughout all of the activities, from the instruction down to the rolling. He and his staff have changed my life for the better, from diet and exercise to goal setting and getting my own business and life in order. A remarkable place, with

I started training at this gym a few months ago it’s been an amazing experience. I’ve always wanted to train jiu jitsu but just never found the right place to do it. Thankfully I found Cobrinha’s.
Before I started training I went to a couple different gyms but none of them were as nice and welcoming as Cobrinha’s. The vibe, energy, and cleanliness is what attracted me to this gym. Everybody I’ve met at the gym has been very welcoming and respectful.
We shake hands with everyone before and after practice and learn from one of the best instructors in the game. Ever since I’ve joined

Started as a Groupon ad, as I always wanted to give BJJ a try, and now 4 months later I can't wait to go to the next class and learn from the best in the business, Sensei Rubens "Cobrinha" Maciel, Kennedy Maciel and Fabbio Passos. I love the way the class is structured,
So it teaches you the physical and mental
Aspect of the art, and at the same time it's presented in a very entertaining and engaging way. Place is super clean. Oss.

I've been training here for a little over three months now starting from no martial arts background. They give you a free trial to test out the gym but be careful taking it. because if you do... you will be hooked.
Professor Cobrinha, Professor Kennedy, Mike, Robert, and Miguel are true masters of their craft in both the practice and the teaching of Jiu Jitsu, and it really shows. Every class they make sure to push you just beyond your comfort zone for the most growth, making sure to keep the classes fun and always keeping in mind your safety. Cobrinha, Kennedy, Fabio, Tino, and Dani are all truly professionals. Since stepping foot in the gym I received warm greetings from all the students that were getting ready for the next class. Unlike other gyms, Cobrinha is teaching 5-6 days a week. He greets every student that steps on the mat. I've been training here for a little over a year now, and I can see a night and day difference from when I first started. The guys are all super tough, I feel like everyone if they trained anywhere else would be a belt above what they are. Shows the level of Jiu jitsu that is taught. Being able to

A quick background - I started with a Checkmat affiliate back in 2010-2013, Gracie Barra 2013-2017 and now with Cobrinha. My work-life has been chaotic, hence all the gym changes. I will not compare Cobrinha's gym with others because I am very grateful to them all.
If you are starting out or starting over again (like I was), I highly recommend Cobrinha's gym. They have the MWF 6p Fundamentals and TTh 6p Drills and self defense. Repetition and lots of specific training puts me on a path to apply the new concepts during live training situations.
I am starting to take the more advanced

This gym is amazing. Regarding the few negative reviews I couldn't help but read (that I saw on google reviews), they must be confusing this place with another gym. From the beginning I haven't experienced anything but positivity from Cobrinha, his black belts, and his desk staff.

Cobrinha is a great BJJ gym. Cobrinha himself is one of the greatest BJJ player right now. He teaches you the right mindset and foundation to learn BJJ the right way. He makes BJJ easy, and if you're a beginner you're going to be confused in the beginning! Just stick with it! If you follow Cobrinha's long term mindset you'll be able to deal with any obstacles to improve yourself!!!
I was training in a room with 20 black belts, and they said:" there's black belts and there black belts" ! Cobrinha is one of the greatest!
I also want to add that he is very patient

I've been taking Kickboxingfor 3 months. Watched the Khabib vs Barbosa fight and realized I needed to learn Wresting/Jiu-Jitsu. Went to checkout Cobrinha since it was only a mile away from my house.
It's located on Wilshire on the edge of Koreatown and Hancock Park. It's inside a corporate building and I think it's free to park in the corporate parking lot past 7pm. Very clean/nice front office and matts. Front desk receptionist was incredibly helpful.
Pros:
- Very clean facility
- Instructor was very knowledgeable, friendly, and nice
- Students in class were very helpful
