Namaste Shangri-La
Welcome to Namaste Shangri-La, a place with the complete bliss and delight. We have the pleasure to serve you the authentic home made recipies from the Himilayan Region, a great fusion of India, Nepal, Tibet and Burma. The bold herbs and spices of Nepalese, Indian, Burmese, and Tibetan cuisines converge on Namaste Shangri-La's menu, giving diners a brief overview of the Himalayan region's rich culinary offerings.

These dishes vary in their heat and intensity, ranging from tender lamb in an incendiary vindaloo sauce to skewers of jumbo shrimp that are marinated in savory Indian spices and then roasted inside a clay tandoor oven. Many of the entrees eschew meat entirely while still embracing the rich flavors that characterize Himalayan cooking.

I first came here on a frigid weeknight. As I entered, fingers tingled from the cold, my glasses foggy from the warm interior, & my stomach growled at the welcoming aroma of fresh naan paired with warm spices. The entire experience was magical. The curries flavorful, the meats tender, the hot naan buttery & crisp. Wonderful, personalized service. It truly is a tastebud journey to India without leaving our little corner of Alaska.

Hey it's only 15$ for a lunch meat sandwich a 16 oz. Soda and a carrot. Laughing heartily, though the smiles and great attitude from the cashier/owner probably, makes the hour plus worth of salary for 1 sandwich worth the visit.

It's very rare that I eat any kind of East Indian or Himalayan food, yet today I found myself craving some sort of coconut curry dish. I remember a long time ago eating Himalayan food at Yak & Yeti and quite enjoyed it, so I set out to find Himalayanesque food. I had heard good things about Namaste Shangri-La on Tudor, and decided to dine here. It exceeded any expectations I may have had!

I walked in with some idea of what I wanted to order. I needed a dish that was going to allow me to have a little bit of a variety, so that I could try a few dishes. I ended up ordering the Non-Vegetarian

Great food. I went with a friend who had never before had Indian cuisine. I ordered an appetizer and several main courses; all of the food was excellent. The service was also stellar. This restaurant will be a go to whenever I find myself in Anchorage.

Great Indian food. They are Himalayan cuisine but I wouldn’t say it was much different than Indian cuisine. I ordered veg thali and extra naan which was enough for 2 people. Good portion size and good taste.

This place came recommended by a colleague and we finally made it. We arrived just at dinner opening and almost every table was full by the time we departed. The staff was extremely kind, attentive and answered questions in detail. Patrons were coming in for pick up orders and they were also offered seating and a beverage if they had a wait.

We ordered garlic cheese naan, 1/2 order of veggie momos, chicken tikka (mild), chicken curry (medium). I think there were 8 Momos in the half order! The large portions were true of the entrees too!

Hubs wasn't sure the heat of the spices and could

Friendly staff. Feels like a family business.
The vegetarian momos were exceptional!
Onion kulcha was both sweet and savory, in that way that only well cooked onions can be.

Be careful, the default on the food was medium which is very spicy! Next visit we will go for mild. ( and I'm not a wimp)
Raita was creamy, yogurty and good.
Saag paneer was flavorful good with chewy paneer cheese
Mooni dal was good and vegetarian masala was decent.

Great place! Best Indian food in town! Rich creamy (however light on stomach) sauces and interestingly they have different taste for each one. Freshly made. All the curries were great. Must try their Nepali Kheer. Customer service was so welcoming! All in all, must go place! Highly recommend

We went for lunch at 12pm. They were severely understaffed. We were given water after 15 minutes and then, we waited for 35 minutes for the appetizers. Still, they didn't come so we asked them when it might arrive. They said it will still be a while because they are understaffed. She said it might take 30 more minutes to an hour. That would be a total of 1 hour or 1.5 hours for one curry dish and one appetizer. We ended up leaving before the food came

Disappointing food and service.
Came here around 6:30 pm to grab some Indian tea which was mediocre and excessively sweet. The staff who seated us that evening rushed us and kept asking us if we were going to order some food for dinner. We tend to eat dinner later in the evening but caved and ordered the chicken biryani and kadai paneer. Both average and extremely spicy and not cooked right. I understand that a restaurant can get busy but making guests feel welcome at all times should be a priority IMO. Would not recommend.

A great selection of Southeast Asian foods. Great customer service, fair pricing, and healthy portions. They’re often very busy Friday nights, so takeout can take awhile longer, often 45 minutes minimum. Other days takeout is typically ready in 15-25 minutes in our experience. Food is often great, but can be inconsistent (two orders ago we ordered vegetable momos and got beef momos instead because they ran out and tonight our cheese naan was burnt to to the point it tasted more burnt than cheese.) It often hits the spot. Good option for those who like Himalayan and southeast Asian cuisine.

If you're looking for homey setting, good food, and good service, then this is the place for you. It's not high end, but it checks off all the blocks for a great place to eat Nepalese food. We ordered for ourselves but it definitely became family style.

The service was really great. The waitress was fast and super polite.

For appetizers, we ordered the meat sampler plate (they have a vegetarian option as well) . My husband got the plumb tea (super fragrant) and I got the mango lassi. Everything was great to start off.

For our main course I got the beef briyani. It was super aromatic

Didn't expect to find a good Indian restaurant in Anchorage. We had the Paneer tikka masala and it was really good. The samosas were a little disappointing and oily. Loved their mango kulfi. Definitely recommend this place if you are craving Indian food on your trip to Alaska.

COVID-era post.

Due to restrictions, I was not able to eat in-restaurant this time, but have had great lunches there in the past.

I ordered takeout and they now are providing delivery.

Food is excellent. I ordered the chicken makhiani (buttery, tomato-based, creamy sauce, not-spicy). It came with a huge portion a rice and definitely a bonus if you splurge the extra $3-4 for freshly made naan. I have also enjoyed the saag paneer and tikka masala dishes in the past. They have a wide variety of naan (garlic, cheese), suaces, and meats and seafood (including shrimp, fish, goat, and lamb).

Good food..fast service and busy place.
Only one thing they can improve is they need a bigger place with little better decor and separate waiting area for pick up.I had 15-20 people going over my table to see what I m eating and standing 5-10 feet of other tables in this COVID pandemic time.Food was fresh, quick and nice presentation.Little off with the quality but I can let that go for Little better sitting arrangement.

Went twice here and I must say they have done wonderful job in attracting locals to the restaurant. I saw (probably owner) asking most of the folks if they tried Indian before and telling them about the food and guiding them.
They have variety of option on their menu and their high spicy is really spice and I don’t suggest to try if you are not use to.
The food tasted good and they have very quick service as well. What I didn’t like about it is, they charging me for onions. In most of the restaurants onion, lemons are given complimentary.

It took several tries, before we were able to eat here. Either they had closed early, or the chef had to leave, or the wait was over an hour, etc. I had almost given up trying, but the reviews were so good, I decided to give it one more go. I'm glad I did. The food was really good! My husband had the mixed grill & I had the non veg combo meal, with chicken Tikka masala. We also ordered a side of garlic naan, which was so good, we ordered a 2nd side of garlic naan. Overall, a really good meal. Not cheap, but not expensive, either. We spent $55, plus tip, for 2 dinners, 2 garlic naan, and 2 teas
