At AAH our staff is here to help strengthen the veterinary-client-pet relationship. We work hard and take pride in our efforts to provide high quality health care and exceptional client service. Our hope is that American Animal Hospital provides a compassionate, progressive, pleasant and rewarding environment for patients, clients and staff at all times.
To ensure that your pet stays healthy, we provide wellness services to your dog or cat at any age. Our surgical suite is well-instrumented and provides modern inhalation anesthetics and monitoring techniques for our patient's safety. Our laboratory is equipped for complete blood counts and serum chemistry analysis, as well as many other diagnostic procedures.
I grew up in Missouri Valley, Iowa. Attended Iowa State University for both undergraduate and veterinary school. Practiced as a small animal veterinarian in Centerville, Iowa until recently moving back to the Omaha area to be closer to family. Married to Jim, son Jackson and daughter Kendall. We love cheering on the Iowa State Cyclones in all athletic events.
We consider most cats and dogs to be "seniors" by the age of seven. As pets age, changes in health are common, but there are many ways we can help pets age comfortably so that their quality of life doesn't diminish. We recommend all seniors visit us every six months so that we can detect any health concerns early, before they become serious.
Routine Dental cleaning is vital part of your pet's preventative care. With each dental cleaning we provide a thorough oral examination, scaling, polishing, fluoride treatment, and antibiotic therapy when necessary. Each patient is sent home with discharge information that includes the results of the oral examination, before and after pictures, and information on at-home dental care.

The reception staff are very pleasant and the facility is one of the most impressive I've visited. Dr. Burr is thorough and explained options in a manner I could understand. She also provided information to allow me to research further at my leisure. I traveled from Lincoln and the location is easy to get to so I plan to make the trip the next time either of my pups need a visit!!

Make sure to ask for a copy of your pets medical records and make sure they are correct. THEY can write down anything they want even when it is not true. scheduled two different times to euthanize my granddaughters dog then said someone recorded he had bit someone on the 4th when NOONE told them that. she had called on the 4th to set up the appointment. told them he was aggressive but had NOT bitten anyone yet. they set the appointment for Saturday the 6. they wouldn't do it then because they said they had to call the humane society and couldn't do it till Monday. I took my sister's cat there and received wonderful service. Everyone was kind and didn't treat me like I was overreacting to the cat being so sick. Each person listened to what happened and did their best to stay within our budget. We had been approved through Cares at a different vet clinic. Rena (our cat) received so much care and she's doing so much better. I'll be bringing my other animals there for there check ups from now on.

Dr. Natalie Allen was so compassionate when caring for my dog, who has become old and fragile. She gave me all the information as to what was going on with her, why she’s feeling the way she does, and what I needed to do in my care for her in moving forward.
I can tell that she loves her job, she’s very good at it, and she really cares about my beloved pet. I was so happy my dog was in such good hands, especially at her old age. I truly feel that my dog received the best care from her!

What brought me to American Animal Hospital was I had been looking for a new vet closer to home. Initially we had both of our dogs annual appointment, everything was fine. My next interaction was when my dog was injured. It wasn't an emergency situation, I just wanted to make sure the wound was healing and not infected. They made me an "urgent" care appointment even after I changed the initial appointment made on a Saturday for Monday (already not seeming urgent)to the following day, Tuesday. I adopted a dog and she is dog aggressive! These guys allowed her to go right away to the room so other ones are safe! She doesn't like men so they had a woman come in. Offered her peanut butter to make the shots go better and faster! They were all nice and incredible service!

We have been very happy with the care received from the veterinarians at American Animal Hospital. Dr. Knott and Dr. Jesske in particular were both kind and helpful to our pug Jack. They have good listening skills, like dogs, and recommended treatments that were appropriate, not over the top.
I'm not wild about their setup as a boarding facility, but for insightful and compassionate pet care I recommend American Animal.

I went through several online sites besides Yelp to find a honest and caring veterinarian in the Omaha area. I didn't find one yet after two attempts in the Elkhorn area so it was time to widen the search. Prior vet facilities and staff were all about upsell on products that were really unnecessary in my opinion or charging for a medical service on Rex, the super border collie without asking for permission from the owner. This visit for an annual exam and vaccinations went fine without any drama. When I would refuse any upsell with products or extra tests, there was no reluctance or disapproval

I am seriously questioning the integrity of this hospital and whether or not I need to take my other dog someplace else. My daughter brought her dog in, paid for blood tests TWICE because the first test was messed up. Was told, give dog thyroid and go home. Despite the fact that the dog was SEVERELY lethargic, was told, can't do anything else. Dog declined FAST. Brought her back in. Was told likely Addison's disease. Paid for a VERY expensive test to confirm. Paid for dog to get IV fluid and was given steroids. Dog greatly improved, all signs pointed to Addison's. Later

This clinic has gotten way too busy. You're on hold for a very long time when trying to make an appointment and when you get there, plan on spending an hour waiting to see a doctor. It's agonizing as your pet gets very anxious being around all the other animals in the waiting room. I will not go back there - my time is valuable, too.

The doctors and vet techs are always so friendly and helpful. You can tell they care about the animals they treat. We have been coming here for the last 5 years and couldn't imagine bringing our pets elsewhere! Our cat is on prescription cat food and they were even so kind as to mail us a hand written reminder that we could get the product cheaper when ordering online! Highly recommend.

Our family has bringing our pets here for years, originally at the recommendation of my sister-in-law. This is by far a 5 star vet. I can honestly say that I feel every single person who works here really cares about the animals who come through their doors. The entire staff has always been very nice and accommodating. We have brought pets in for their first appointment and their last :( and everything from checkups to what turned out to be emergency surgery. We had a dog with epilepsy that American Animal Hospital helped treat for years so we speak from experience that these guys know what

I don't know what I would have done without the caring staff at American Animal Hospital. My cat had gotten very sick and I was losing him but I wasn't prepared to say goodbye. The compassion and empathy this hospital showed for both myself and my sweet kitty was incomparable to any other vet clinic I've ever been to. From the minute I called the hospital in tears to the day I had to say goodbye to my dear friend, the staff at AAH was there to comfort me. We've been taking our Pug here since we moved to Omaha a few years ago. We've seen a few different doctor's, and they've all been good. Dr. Knot is our favorite. I never feel like she's rushing us and I trust her to only recommend procedures our dog really needs. She even gets down on the floor to examine our dog because he's more comfortable that way. Overall, this is a great practice to take your pet.
