Huszar
Huszar is a charming, family-owned restaurant and tavern featuring homemade Hungarian Old-World Cuisine, specialty craft beer selections, exclusive wine imports, and a full bar. With Huszar, we reach back to our roots. My mom would often tell stories of her family life in Hungary, and my dad would often reflect upon his military service there that he was so proud of.

However, it was the stories of my grandfather being a proud Huszar, handpicked to serve as an elite soldier on horseback, that I draw my inspiration from. Their stories instilled me with a deep pride in my heritage. Located on the corner of E North Ave, on Pittsburgh's North Shore, Huszar's is all about Family, Neighborhood, Tradition and the Best Hungarian comfort food.
Services
1956 was the year that changed my family's life. My parents and two brothers - who were only toddlers at the time - fled Hungary, after the fallout of the Hungarian Revolution, and emigrated to the country they knew as "Amerika." With Huszar, we reach back to our roots. My mom would often tell stories of her family life in Hungary, and my dad would often reflect upon his military service there that he was so proud of.
This Holiday Season, Huszar is proud to launch it's wonderful Pastry offerings made by Master Pastry Chef Karoly Schmidt, direct from Budapest! He will be here throughout the holiday season, creating the best that Hungarian Pastry Chefs can offer. Come to Huszar or call us with special Pastry Catering needs to delight your friends and family!
It's been a long time coming, and we are excited to welcome and present to Pittsburgh, The Royal Trio! Direct from Budapest, the Royal Trio will play Hungary's most beloved Gypsy Music nightly Tuesday - Saturday exclusively at Huszar! Help us in welcoming the Royal Trio with a great big Pittsburgh Hello!
Last year, when Huszar restaurant launched its traditional Hungarian Bacon Roast, owners Judy and Michael Torma hoped for 50 guests. They underestimated the power of bacon (and community): Some 200 folks showed, with others turned away at the door. This year, they're adding a fire pit to last year's battery of three, but you still.
One of the lasting legacies of Pittsburgh's immigrant-driven, industrial past is its ties - sometimes generations removed, but still tenuously present - to the Old World of Central Europe. Recently, a revival of interest in old-fashioned regional cuisines has provided new opportunities to explore and strengthen this legacy through food.

The food was unique and delicious, but the proportions were not worth the prices. The Czech beer was large and awesome! I had several.

My parents haven't really left their house for 2 years because of the pandemic. They asked for Hungarian and I immediately chose Huszar's. The food was fantastic, the owners' pleasant, and my family loved everything. Thank you and happy new year!!!!

Excellent food, not a bad hunky dish in the place. Absolutely delicious. And they have a well-armed rabbit.

I ordered the goulash, rich chicken soup and creamed onion soup to go for a family event and everyone was so impressed by the flavors and quality.
Highly recommend for a cozy, home cooked meal. Only wish they sold their soup in larger portions rather than a single 10oz size!

Small and unassuming, Huszar was the perfect place to go on a chilly autumn day. This place has lots of traditional Eastern European comfort foods that I grew up on. It was one of the best meals I’ve had in such a long time. We will definitely be returning. Don’t forget to leave room for dessert!! Everything was sooooo good!

Not disability friendly. When I walked in with my service dog today I was denied service unless I had "papers" proving she was a service dog. According to the ADA "Inquiries, Exclusions, Charges, and Other Specific Rules Related to Service Animals When it is not obvious what service an animal provides, only limited inquiries are allowed. Staff may… ask two questions: (1) is the dog a service animal required because of a disability, and (2) what work or task has the dog been trained to perform. Staff cannot ask about the person’s disability, require medical documentation, require a

Lady Owner was extremely nice and cool to talk to. Was cool to learn the journey of her and her husband and what the city of Pittsburgh and their home country means to them and how they pour out the love of both homes into their food. I would definitely be visiting again.

Tasty food and friendly fast service in a dive bar setting. From the outside it may look closed, but the two doors entering the restaurant is open. Come on in!
