Judo is a martial art that focuses on throwing your opponent and subduing them through pins, chokes and arm-locks. It is an effective form of self-defense, along with being a great way to stay in shape! You can expect to learn both the philosophical and martial arts aspects of Aikido, when you join Kin-Tora's Aikido program.

Brothers Tony and Marty Grisanti started Kin-Tora with the help of their parents, Salvatore and Doris Grisanti. Tony and Marty began studying Judo in 1963 and became black belts 9 years later and began to teach. They created Kin-Tora in 1974 out of their love for Judo, their desire to share it, and to have their own club where Judo could be taught and practiced: a club with a family atmosphere.
Kin-Tora Martial Arts and Fitness Center, located on Lake Erie just on the outskirts of Buffalo, NY, is home to one of the finest Martial Arts studios in America. Offering a variety of Martial Arts, taught by experienced instructors, it is a gem of opportunity for anyone interested in studying one or many Martial Arts.
When Dr. Jigoro Kano, the founder of Judo, entered Tokyo University at the age of 18, he began learning Tenshin Shinyo Ryu Jujitsu in 1877 and later he studied Kito Ryu Jujitsu as well as various Jujitsu techniques from the other distinct styles. Because Kano wanted to teach Jujitsu for educational purposes and to distinguish his style from other styles, he renamed it "Judo", which means "the gentle way".

Enrolling your child in Judo will be one of the best decisions you will make for them! It will make a positive impact on their self-control, self-confidence and it's a great form of self-defense! We teach the fundamentals of Judo in our kids class. We teach them how to fall, throwing techniques and hold-downs.

Kin-Tora is one of THE best martial arts center in Buffalo, hands down. Established in the 1970s, the family who has owned and operated this place have been practicing judo since they were very young. Kin-Tora is rather unique, in that it is run in the style of a club, as opposed to a for-profit dojo.
As well as judo, Kin-Tora also offers three other styles: Danzan-ryu Jujutsu, Ryukyu kempo, and Wadokai aikido. There are judo classes for both children and adults. The other three styles are more geared towards those 18 and older; however, the aikido class will take teen students (15 and up)

I take aikido at Kin-Tora and it has made Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays the best days of my week. Everyone is kind, understanding, and they work together to help each other improve. Shihan James is an amazing teacher who both challenges everyone to push past their comfort zone and breaks techniques down to make them more understandable. Shihan Judy is super kind and is patient with us when we're struggling. And of course, Shihan Mike is a rockstar technician and punmaster. Honestly, I have the most fun and am the happiest when I'm on the mats with my fellow aikidoka. I've made my best friends
