I primarily utilize Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) techniques that blend Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) with Buddhist wisdom (awareness, focus, openness and letting go of judgment). Developed by Dr. Steven Hayes in the 1980's, ACT is a mindfulness-based, values-oriented behavioral therapy.
ACT guides us towards creating a rich, full and meaningful life, while effectively holding the pain and stress inherent in being human. Through mindfulness skills, ACT allows us to deal with painful thoughts and feelings more effectively so we avoid getting stuck. ACT then helps us in clarifying what is truly important and meaningful and takes this knowledge to motivate value driven behavior.
