A hundred years ago the table land called El Modena was covered with sagebrush and cactus webbed with sheep and cattle trails. Early in 1886 a town was laid out in the brush country and named Modena, but to eliminate confusion with another town an El was added to the name.

The town was soon settled by colonists from the middle west who belonged to a "Society of Friends", more commonly called Quakers. David Hewes, though not a Quaker, donated a large church bell. The building stood high and conspicuous in a land that had few trees or houses. The friends were newcomers to California and were not acquainted with its unusual weather.

Margaritas were large and tasty. The table salsa was good with a bite to it which I love. Waiter was friendly and service was quick. Will definitely be back.

Stopped on our way back home to Arizona. Some of the best Mexican food I have ever had. Would definitely come back the next time we are in the area.

Service was perfect for our group of 10! Food portions were very large. I would have been fine sharing a plate they offer so much food. Chips were crispy but not burnt. Drinks were super yummy. I had a strawberry margarita and a pacifico so refreshing!! I will definitely go back when Im in the area

The chicken chimichangas are super good. Also the shredded beef tacos are a great too. They put ton of fresh shreds cheese, chopped tomatoes and shredded lettuce. Soft chicken tacos are good as well. My boyfriend had ordered those. Enjoy everyone. A beautiful place to dine is out on the patio under stars and Christmas lights.

Went to Taco Tuesday and the regular taco's normally selling for $4.50 are $2.25 each. Their tacos are ABSOLUTELY delicious! More than that, they're HUGE! I LOVE crispy handmade tacos, and I guarantee...you will not be disappointed.

Never in my life had a chimichanga that was just meat thrown in a tortilla and fried. No cheese? Tacos looked great, maybe next time... Service was slow. I get it we're in pandemic, nobody wants to work. Not an excuse for getting exactly one glass of water with my meal and sitting empty for the last half.

Long time to be seated for such a large establishment. Short staffed, food wasn't seasoned, texture of rice way to soft. Tamale yuck.. temperature of food wasn't hot. Servers were nice.
Carnitas taco a la cart was good. Hence the 2 stars! Won't be going back!

Taco Tuesday is great here... the tacos are very generous and only $2!! The have a variety of meats... I tried a potato and a shredded beef taco... the potato was the better of the two in my opinion!

It's about the outdoor dining space that makes it special. Particularly when the Sun goes down - the outdoor lights, strung dimly across the outdoor space.. . It's actually quite romantic. Food quality is what you would expect from a famous Mexican food joint in Orange County. Sure it's authentic, the quantities are huge.
