Services
South Shreveport Animal Hospital was founded in December of 1985 by Dr. Gordon Calahan. In 2005 we did a large expansion project that doubled the size of the hospital and added our Luxury boarding facility. There are now have 3 full-time Veterinarians on staff. Dr. Calahan has been practicing in Shreveport since 1981 after graduating from LSU Vet School.
We would rather prevent illness than wait until the pet's health is compromised and treatment needed. We recommend a visit for adult dogs twice a year and adult cats once a year for vaccinations and physical examinations. Unfortunately, with our warm humid weather and short mild winters, it makes our environment a paradise for bacteria, viruses, fungal organisms, and parasites.

They take amazingly good care of your little furbabies 👍👍👍👍😻😻
Edit: extremely uncaring front staff. They do NOT care. They do NOT know what they are doing. And, when told of my emergency situation with my cat (life or death), they told me the next available appointment was on Monday.. (that's 3 more days). They had no empathy nor sympathy. Also, unhelpful.
I WILL ALWAYS PRAISE THE VETERINARIANS WHO KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING.

Our beautiful Abbie inherited a genetic mutation. She and two other dogs in her litter inherited this gene. It was Metastatic cancer. The two siblings passed at 4-1/2 years of age. We almost lost Abbie about the same time. She had surgery to remove cancer and things were touch and go. Dr Panos was the first doctor to help us navigate thru that time. Several more years went by and the cancer came back with a vengeance. It had spread all over. Abbie was literally on her deathbed when we took her in. Dr Treadwell informed us of options and all it took was for me to say I want to save her for as long

Dr. Calahan is wonderful! He's knowledgeable and very honest- couldn't have asked for more! He thoroughly explains everything and wants the best for your pet. My sweet girl is now getting the care she deserves. If I could give a 10 star review, I would. Thank you to Dr. Calahan and everyone at South Shreveport Animal Hospital for providing excellent care.

I would have given it a better rating, but I'm still a bit bitter about the misleading appointment we had set up in advanced. They said our VERY sick dog would be seen between 8 to 9 AM. We were told the doctor wouldn't even be in until 9:30. So, our dog had to sit in a cage ALONE, wondering who those people are and if we abandoned her. We were pretty much sent home. 9 o'clock goes by, so does 10, and 11. Finally, we got a call from the doctor around or past noon. Our dog had been in that cage for hours with a muzzle when it was bad enough she had trouble breathing. And by the time we

Dr. Callahan and all his staff are amazing! They always find room for us when we need a little piece of mind. On several occasions they have fit us in the day of. We have been using SSAH since 2015 and have never experienced any issues. They helped us nurse our rescue back to health, and now they are helping us keep our new puppy healthy.

I called this place bc my baby was sicker than he ever is. They wouldn't see him on a payment plan. Ok. I asked if I could speak with a vet or tech. I was told both were in a room. After a brief hold I was told the vet was in surgery. I left my name and # at 11:15am but no call back. My dog is 12lbs, hasn't eaten since Sunday when he began throwing up, really thirsty, shivering and started throwing up blood today. And I couldn't at least get a call. I wouldn't even want free care from them now.

My chihuahua Sookie hurt herself jumping onto a piece of furniture. The very next day I took her to South Shreveport Animal Hospital because she was clearly in pain. The vet took x-rays of the front and side of her injured leg and found no abnormalities, so they said it must be a soft tissue injury and sent me home with doggy NSAID's. Before I left they insisted on trimming her nails and in the process of doing so they stretched her injured leg out sideways, which probably made things even worse.
A couple weeks later Sookie was still limping so I took her to a different vet for a second
