Dans Restaurant, originally located in downtown Reading, PA, was opened in 1989 by Dan Gallagher and Dan Smith. The two Dans' shared a goal of providing a contemporary alternative to the traditional Berks County dining scene. The current owners, Bill Woolworth and Monir, were dining at Dans in January of 2005 when they had the idea of purchasing the restaurant.

Husband and I dined last week on the 22nd to treat ourselves to some fine dining before the big Christmas Day. We literally left during the meal overwhelming disappointed. Arriving early appeared to irritate the hostess (which should have been our sign). Seated around 7:15 or so we received 3 mojitos and a glass of wine in an hour. When our appetizers finally arrived, it was 8:30pm and one of my tuna strips was a 1 1/2” end piece of pale tuna (what most fine dining would never serve as a portion). True fine dining in Berks county! A variety of well prepared dishes and excellent soups, that were well presented and delicious. A beautiful setting inside and outside. Most importantly a menu with a varietal of offerings other than the all to often repetitive menu items found in every other restaurant.

Eating outside was a great choice. The service was great and the seasonal ravioli was a very unique blend of flavors with bbq brisket and ravioli. I was nervous about it, but it paired perfectly with the slaw on top. The Pennsylvania Chicken is one of the cheaper entrees, but don’t be fooled by lower price. It’s actually cooked really well and pairs perfectly with the rice and carrots. The flavors were great. I tried the crab cake as well, but in comparison, the chicken was the superior entree.
