Datum was founded in Dallas in 1937 by Frank Chappell, a much-admired engineer whose many high-profile Dallas projects included the Cotton Bowl and other significant buildings in Dallas historically significant. In 1963, a very young Thomas Taylor took over operations of the firm and began to build on Mr. Chappell's legacy.
Datum has an experienced team whose tenures with the firm averages more than 20 years. We are a group of highly experienced studio leaders and project managers who are committed to our clients. Together, our team of 60 professionals is dedicated to striving for excellence as we practice the Art of Structural Engineering.
Datum Engineers has a rich history built over 80 years of incredible engineering and built on a solid reputation. Driven by passion, expertise, and fantastic talent, we are an award-winning Texas-based practice with offices in Dallas, Austin, and San Antonio. We service an international client base, with completed projects from Seattle to Miami, as well as Mexico, and Europe.

Our experience on projects such as the Perot Museum of Nature & Science and the Amon Carter Museum of American Art has led us to author a guide for our clients on the issues involved. Convention Centers have very specialized structural requirements.
