Services
The BIRD Clinic Veterinary Corporation was originally founded in 1987 by Larry Nemetz, DVM, as a specialty veterinary practice dedicated to advanced diagnostics, treatment, and prevention of medical conditions in ONLY avian patients. Our mission is to provide excellent avian veterinary care for the birds of our clients and those of the many vets that refer to The BIRD Clinic.
Pre-purchase Consultation- Dr. Nemetz offers counseling on "Selecting the correct bird for the specific home". New Purchase Examination - An "insurance policy" to be confident your new avian pet came to you in good health. Annual Health Examination - In a goal to monitor and maintain the good health of your bird and prevent disease before it manifests itself in a more serious state.
Dr. Nemetz received a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology from UC Davis in 1980, then completed a Master of Science program in veterinary anatomy in 1981. Dr. Nemetz worked in the veterinary field for two years before entering Purdue University Veterinary School in Indiana and graduated in 1987.

Hi I brought my cockatiel Tommy for some concerns with his wings. My overall experience the bird clinic was a pleasant one. I learned a lot from the veterinarian there. I would highly recommend anybody that needs care for their pet birds.

My sad experience with Nemetz is that I had a seriously injured canary (approx. 1 year old), who suffered over three days and died. Nemetz wasn't available to immediately see my canary (broken leg)) and when he did have time to see her, the charges ran over $800. Furthermore, the clinic is hot and stuffy, and you have to wear a mask. I felt ill listening to his "advice", which I followed to the best of my ability. Be careful leaving the parking lot, the traffic is dangerous and no pet is worth a car accident!

Sadly this vet is just a bad egg. Pun intended.
I only wish I had read the Yelp reviews prior but when you're worried about your bird, you get in wherever you can.
I would like to spare you a trip and a load of cash. I walked out the door only paying $200 for an exam (could have been so much worse if I hadn't listened to my instinct on this guy) Vet told me that my bird was overweight (told me 120g's)and calcium deficient. This scared me as she has laid eggs and I always worry about being egg bound. He said she needed a $480 X-ray, and depending on the outcome, egg removal surgery

You do NOT want to take your birds anywhere else!

We in SoCal are so fortunate to live so close to one of, if not THE best avian vets in the country.  Dr. Nemetz has been at the forefront and led advancements in avian medicine for decades. You can find a tremendous amount of info online about that so I'll let you see that for yourself.

I've been taking my birds to Dr. N. for over 15 years.  He provides the highest level of care, diagnostics, and has access to the most advanced technology. Other vets that treat birds can't even come close to what he can do and I've met a

Dr. Neimetz knows birds, but what he charges is ridiculous. I paid almost $500 for a chicken that had to be put to sleep. Paying $200 to put down an animal is absurd. After my expensive experience there, I called Magnolia Bird Farm and asked about an alternative avian vet. They said they don't recommend Dr. Neimetz because he overcharges his clients. As an alternative, they recommended Dr. Greek in Yorba Linda. I took a chicken to see Dr. Greek and was very pleased with his knowledge and fees--very reasonable.

I'm very confused on why this clinic has a 4 star rating and very concerned that this guy is a "doctor. This guy only cares about taking your money. Does not care at all about the bird. Our bird was taken to him after a nasty unfortunate accident with one of our dogs. This being our first bird we have no other idea or something to compare the situation to.

I will admit that the condition was bad and when he was taken in, he did nothing but to try to pump fluids. This guy kept on treating him only for shock! Completely disregarded that there were puncture wounds on the bird. Kept saying

I found Dr. Nemetz just under 2 years ago and am grateful every day to this man and his knowledge, caring and innovation. He has saved Louisa's life 3 times - the first in taking her as a referral from a vet who knew enough to know he was more of an expert than she was- first identifying vascular disease and putting her on a life saving protocol, and again when diagnosed a tumor on her testicle...yes, she is a male.... and again when foreign bodies were ingested- thought I had bird proofed her cage, think again!

We bring all 6 of our poicephalus flock here, 3 are now on heart meds and the

Dr. Niemetz was fantastic. I took our office pet (from my old job) here many times. Piccolo was comfortable with this doctor and he was very knowledgeable. If I had a bird I would use this vet again. He knew a lot about the particular breed of bird brought to him (Military Macaw) and you can tell he was passionate about his job.
The only thing I didn't particularly like was his suggestion to cut the identification band off the birds foot. In hindsight I wish I didn't accept his suggestion and I wish I had slept on it because I would not have cut it off if I had to do this over in

Dr. Nemetz is one of the best, plain and simple. He's straightforward and not afraid to tell you where you're mistaken or doing wrong by your bird. He's saved both of my birds' lives, and for that I am immensely grateful.

While the costs can add up, particularly if your bird has ongoing medical issues, money is not the issue here--you get what you pay for, which is top-notch avian medical care. It's worth every penny, and if you love your bird, Dr. Nemetz will do his best to help. Remember that he is a specialist and has state-of-the-art medical technology, which you can

Dr. Nemetz has been seeing my babies for over 10 years. He is the ONLY avian veterinarian that I trust & will NOT take my babies to anyone else. Yes, he does charge a little bit more than other veterinarians; however, you do need to realize that he's an avian specialist. Dr. Nemetz is very straight forward & won't sugar coat, which can lead people to believe he's being condescending & talking down to them. He's a very logical thinker & will state facts, which most people don't want to hear. In the society that we live in today, being "politically correct

Ive said it a few times.. yet I will say again because I believe in Dr. Nemetz and his bird practice. I have spent thousands on all my parrots and every single penny is worth it.

Dr. Nemetz is an avian specialist.. this is the key word I feel most people are forgetting.. He is a "Specialist" therefore you can expect to pay more, and receive better care.

I have been going to him with my 5 parrots for over 18 years. He is nothing short of amazing. He is the sole reason I do not leave California.

He has NEVER spoke to me in a condescending manner and if he ever did it is because

I accidentally stepped on my cockatiel, broke her wing, bruised her leg so bad and my bird's life is in danger. My bird was in a terrible shocked and I can hear my bird crying. I brought her to Dr. Nemetz and he saved my bird. He is a very knowledable avian doctor and I can see his concern and care for the birds. It has been over a month ordeal for me and now my bird is still recovering but she is now OK. Thanks for Dr. Nemetz. For the expense, it is not cheap but the life of my bird is more important than money. I want my bird to live.

I had a wonderful experience seeing Dr. Nemetz. He is sharp, clearly a leader in his field and takes his profession very seriously.

After consulting 2 other DVMs about my budgie's health problem with diagnosis TBD, I was referred to Dr. Nemetz.

Going to The Bird Clinic vs. going to another clinic that sometimes treats birds was like the difference between night and day.

He determined that my girl is actually a boy (!) and that he has testicular tumors. Dr. Nemetz was able to administer an injection of Lupron at his hospital which he explained has an 85% success rate in sending these types

The Dr is so wonderful, he is very intelligent and on top of current avian research. He knows his stuff and as a bird mommy, I can't ask for more. He's good at handling the birds, he's very good at blood draws. Both my sun conure and green cheek didn't even flinch when he drew blood for labs.he take his time with each individual pt making sure that they are each properly taken care of. He's good at educating his fellow bird owners. The staff are also very friendly and helpful. Do expect to wait at his office for a little while, it's only him and his 2 assists, but

I was totally impressed.

I read some of these reviews that gave him a bad score and I have to disagree with them. He is a wealth of knowledge -if you take that as arrogance than you should probably be looking in the mirror. He is a one man show! Nemetz is there for your bird! His prices are up there but when you take on a pet, you take on a financial responsibility.

I brought my parakeet in today because he has been sick for a month. The Doctor was so much help. He explained everything to me and broke it down so much he even mapped out on a piece of paper. He was thorough and reassuring. I
