Honolulu dentist, Dr. Wade Takenishi graduated from UCLA dental in 1996. He completed a mini residency in Esthetics and Cosmetic Dentistry and was accepted to the Advanced Education in General Dentistry also at UCLA. For one year he studied advanced techniques in Cosmetic, Implant, Restorative, Hospital dentistry, Crown and Bridge, and Removable Dentures.
He then returned to Hawaii to join his father Elmer Takenishi in practice in 1997. He has been practicing ever since. Dr. Wade is also one of the two doctors that is a certified CEREC instructor. His focus is on comprehensive care and treating patients like family. He loves what he does and hopes to continue helping care for his patients teeth for many years to come.

I'm leaving two stars because his staff is friendly and his services are appropriate. You'll get quality dental work here.
That being said, I believe Dr. Takenishi to be narrow-minded and frankly unprofessional. Unfortunately I needed a lot of dental work done, including the major procedures of root canals and crown placements. The cost was a big shock to me, as I cared about my health but could hardly afford it. I needed a second opinion. With COVID and everything going on the last two years, it's surprising that he could be so insensitive to a situation like mine. After seeing

Dr. Takenishi and his staff were extremely friendly and knowledgeable during my two visits. My chipped tooth filling came out and I needed to get a new one while visiting O'ahu. The staff made it really easy to coordinate the visits through text. There was parking onsite that they reimbursed and they took necessary precautions to make sure I felt safe during this pandemic. Couldn't ask for an easier & friendlier experience! Bonus that my cleaning and chipped tooth filling were A+

Dr. Takenishi and his staff are great! I've never had a bad experience mainly because everyone there is friendly and professional. There is a TV you can watch in the exam rooms and they give you tinted eye protection to avoid any debris or awkward eye contact. Dr. Takenishi explains everything in a way where it's easy to understand and he gives you solid advice on whats best for your dental needs without upselling anything. As a new patient, I feel that Dr. Wade and staff did awesome with my visits. Pretty smooth sailing the whole way through. For my deep cleaning, my hygienist was informative and it was easy to get through. I got a few fillings done as well which is never fun (especially for your pockets) but I'm glad I decided to get the work done by Dr. Wade. He's a good dentist. Overall, appointments were relatively quick and it was a good experience. Nice people. They are also on top of it when it comes to COVID precautions.

Just got back from my visit to Dr. Takenishi. I unfortunately cracked my front tooth and needed it fixed ASAP! A front tooth is incredibly important! I looked extensively online and through yelp came across Dr. Takenishi. I decided to send an email to them to inquire about and appointment because they were closed. Surprisingly he called me back on his day off a couple hours after I sent the email. Even offering to come in the next day on his day off when his practice is closed! I decided it could wait a day and he told me his receptionist would contact me the next day. She called very promptly

I was about to write a review about Dr. Wade when I came upon this review by Victoria S. and felt compelled to respond to her review of Dr. Wade and his staff.
It's unfortunate that Yelp allows reviews from people like Victoria S's on 6/19/19.
You would expect that when you need a medical procedure, the doctor would do a thorough examination and then tell you what needs to be done and the cost. I for one would be terrified if I could phone in a self diagnosis and a doctor offered a price for the procedure.
I would venture to guess that no two mouths or their conditions are

I recently went in to get my teeth cleaned. I like to get them cleaned every quarter because of my dental implant. My hygienist, Moana(sp?) was very thorough and did an excellent job in a timely manner. What I thought was great is that she let me know everything she was going to do prior to her doing it.
This was a cleaning that did not require a dental exam. I will post an update when I get my teeth examined.

I called Dr. Takenishi's office to get a ball-park estimate of composite vs. porcelain verneers a to fix a damaged tooth to see if either would be anything I could afford. His staff refused to give me any kind of estimate and insisted I come in for a consultation. I have a pretty rigorous work schedule, so before I take leave I just want to ensure it's in the range I can even consider the procedure. I love everyone in this office! I don't know of anyone who would say that they don't mind seeing their dentist, even for a check up. However, if you need to see a dentist I would wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Takenishi. He is very professional and thorough with his explanations of any procedure that he recommends. I've had several procedures done and have been very satisfied. They will always go over any charges and insurance coverage before scheduling a procedure.
His staff are all so friendly, always so welcoming. I always look forward to catching up with them.

If I could rate this dental office with more than 5 stars, I certainly would. On Mo day night I broke the crown to one of my front teeth leaving a huge noticeable hole for everyone to see when I talk or merely open my mouth. As a professional singer this was a huge problem as I had several performances scheduled for the upcoming weekend. My daughter recommended I see her new dentist because she loves her experience. This dentist office is the BEST. In the past, I've had really bad experiences with dentists. I even lost a tooth because of a dentist's mistake. So it was hard for me to trust another one. Dr. Takenishi's staff was so accommodating from the start. Being a new patient, I thought I'd have wait for a month or two before I could get an appointment. But I was wrong! They were able to take me in that week because of a cancellation. Within two weeks I had my teeth cleaned and had a temporary filing replaced (a procedure that I had put off for two years). All pain free!

Junko, the office manager was on top of her game. She knew what my insurance covered and what wasn't covered which made my life a lot easier.
