We are still offering telemedicine appointments to help you keep your pet healthy without having to leave home! You can access these services by calling and arranging a phone appointment, or by setting up a video appointment using Zoom, a free service that allows us to communicate with you via videoconference, so we can see your pet and do an accurate assessment.
We WILL be able to prescribe and treat your pet after such visits! If you opt for a phone appointment, you must email us IN ADVANCE any photos, videos, etc that we may need to make our assessment. We may ask for additional information at the time of the phone call.

Dr. Jane T. Owel received her DVM from Michigan State University in 1988 and has been at MVAH ever since. After completing the IVAS Chinese Herbal Medicine for animals course, she has incorporated Traditional Chinese herbal medicine, as well as a very holistic viewpoint, into her general practice. She is also a second degree Reiki practitioner and has an interest in homeopathy.
We're a full service animal hospital, offering preventive care, blood work and other laboratory screening, x-rays, routine dental care and many soft tissue surgeries. Preventive care is an important focus, allowing us to identify disease before it becomes severe. We recommend annual physical exams for all patients, and twice yearly exams for elderly patients.
Dental disease is a big problem for many pets, resulting in bad breath, painful gingivitis and even tooth loss. Brushing every day is ideal, but if there is a significant amount of tartar on the teeth, the only way to remove that is with a professional cleaning, ideally under anesthesia, if your pet is health enough for that.
At Mount Vernon Animal Hospital, the road to embracing Integrative Veterinary Medicine has been an evolution. With over 50 years of practice of Veterinary Medicine between them, Dr. Owel and Dr. Miller have recognized some basic truths: Western Medicine is very good at some things, but not so great with others.
We are pleased to announce the addition of therapeutic laser treatment to our multi-modal pain relief program!
Therapeutic laser treatments can speed healing of wounds and new problems or injuries (sprains, strains, ligament tears, ACLs) as well as reducing pain and inflammation in chronic injuries, such as hip or knee arthritis, disc pain (neck or lower back), and a variety of other conditions, such as gingivitis, chronic otitis (ear infections), lick granulomas and many more.

Let me start off by saying if I was rating just the staff I would give 5 stars. They were kind, helpful and patient. However, I was VERY displeased with my recent visit. I moved to the area recently and was hoping to find a great place to take my pets. I could tell the staff was very knowledgeable and that they cared about my pets’ well being. Or so I thought. I took my dogs in to get some shots that they were in need of and one dog hadn’t been feeling well. So one of my dogs got 2 out of 3 shots that he was due for, a nail trim and a physical exam and the other had bloodwork, a urinalysis

Was in search for a vet. No longer liked the philosophy and lack of care our previous one in Woodbridge provided.
I was exploring acupuncture to help my senior dog who has occasional knuckling due to early arthritis. Seeking a vet that you cannot see/meet in person during COVID is a daunting task.
So glad we went. Pleasantly surprised that cold laser therapy, that is half the price of acupuncture mind you, was what was recommended as the more ideal approach.
My pup had the pleasure to be seen by Dr M. Miller. She took so much time on the phone with me; asked what seemed like 50 questions to

While I now live in Northern NY, Dr. Owel, was our doctor for 14 years, taking care of my10 kitties and one dog. She is amazing! Her knowledge and skills are exceptional. Her kindness and compassion for our beloved pets always conveyed to the "parents" as well. I will always remember her and the hospital staff for their love of animals, professionalism and willingness to get it done. Thank you, Dr. Jane!!

This location was home to some very friendly, animal-loving employees! They took great care of myself and my dog. The building was nice and clean and there was space on both sides of the desk for animals who are skittish like my dog to get away from other hospital visitors. The veterinarian on hand that day was very efficient and informative. Being a new dog owner, she educated me on many different things I never really considered but I am now aware of. I hope I only have to visit this place sparingly, but I know if I do have a pet emergency, my dog will be in great, caring hands.
