Volunteer Healthcare Clinic
Our mission is to improve the health of the uninsured and the working poor by providing access to high quality health care and prevention education. Our vision is to help create and sustain a healthy community where all people, especially the indigent, have access to quality health care and personal well-being.

We provide person-centered, high quality health care in a volunteer-driven and collaborative environment. We operate with integrity, transparency and efficiency to ensure the responsible management of all resources entrusted to us. Our programs are focused on providing the most vulnerable with high quality health care and prevention education.
Services
The Volunteer Healthcare Clinic (VHC) believes access to quality medical care is the foundation of a healthy and thriving community. When people have timely access to care, they can reach their full potential and contribute to our community.

Since 1966, VHC has been building a healthier Austin by providing much-needed primary care for acute and chronic conditions - along with prevention education - to children and adults in Travis County with no other access to care.Through our services, VHC improves health and lives and is helping to create a healthy and vibrant community where everyone can thrive.
The Clinic began quietly back in 1966, when the Ladies of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul at St. Theresa's Church noticed a gap in medical services available for the less fortunate and decided to do something about it. These well-connected women persuaded private physicians to see patients in their offices free of charge and so began the Medical Referral Service, the Clinic's original name.
Monday evenings are reserved for the Chronic Disease Management (CDM) program which provides comprehensive treatment for hypertension, diabetes and other endocrine disorders. Services provided include nurse and physician consultation and any related services such as lab testing, imaging services and prescriptions.
You must be at the Clinic by 6pm in order to receive a ticket. Clinic doors open at 5pm. Please note - there is no benefit to coming before 5pm and tickets are given in random order. If you choose to come before 5pm, you will be waiting outside. You must bring a photo ID with a current Travis County address.
Monday evening are reserved for the Chronic Disease Management (CDM) program which provides comprehensive treatment for hypertension, diabetes and other endocrine disorders. In addition to nurse and physician consultations, CDM patients receive nutrition counseling, ophthalmology consults, diabetic podiatric exams, routine lab testing as well as medical supplies and medications.

I'm not happy. I'm glad they helped me that time but... the doctor was asking too many personal questions that left me uncomfortable. How terrible it is to have to get there over 3 hours before doctors show up? Why must we be there bored out of our minds all that time? Then the fact I made it clear I lived so far away, I needed to get going before the bus service is cut off. They even repeated that comment. And yet both times I was one of the very last clients to leave, despite supposedly trying to help me get done earlier. But by far the worst aspect is I have begged over and over by e-mail for

First of all to help a person who is in need. I don't have a job or medical insurance at this time. And for a professional to donate there time helps me and my family. This is no small thing to give of yourself. Thank you Jehovah God and the staff.

I am really enjoying volunteering here.

This is a great opportunity a couple of times a week to get something checked out for a very low fee. Unfortunately, I will say as a volunteer, the wait time can get quite hairy, but we definitely try to get everyone in and out as fast as we can. But it will be longer than a typical doctor's office, for sure.
