American Society For Dignified Cremations
Our family provides the finest services in a dignified, responsible manner at a fair price with our total commitment to ease the pain of the loss of a loved one. Because we own and operate our own crematory on North May, your loved one never leaves the shelter of our expert care. Our Funeral Directors are here to assist your family in planning a meaningful service for your loved one.

Whether the ceremony takes place in an off premise facility or one of our chapels, we will create a service that suits your family's needs and your loved ones wishes. We are among the very few mortuaries to operate our own crematory inside our clean and secure facility. Our staff operates our crematory with care and dignity, all while adhering to the highest standards.
Services
Whether it is the historic location on 23rd street or our newest location on North May, Smith and Kernke Funeral Directors are available to serve you with two of the finest and largest facilities in the Edmond and Oklahoma City area. At Smith and Kernke, the term family owned has special significance.
When Joe C. Kernke, Sr. and Ralph H. Smith established Smith & Kernke Funeral Directors in 1939, they pledged to provide the finest care with the widest range of burial and cremation options available. Together, they established the 23rd Street Mission/Spanish Colonial Revival location which has since been listed on the National Register of Historic Places, which was announced by deputy state historic preservation officer, Melvena Heisch.
The death of a loved one is a difficult time in your life and it is wise to make choices based on the quality of care you will receive. We are family owned, whereas many other local providers are part of a large clustered corporate entity and report to stockholders. We are mindful that our most valuable asset is our reputation.
Smith & Kernke is a licensed crematorium, and rites are performed under the American Society for Dignified Cremations trademark. Our concern about proper cremation procedures led us to establish our own crematory. We are pleased to set up a personal visit to our crematory where we observe strict procedures ensuring the highest level of legal and ethical standards.
As part of a diverse and multi-cultural community, we serve people of all faiths and cultures. Whatever your tradition or faith, our compassionate and professional staff have the knowledge and experience to serve your family well and according to customs and tradtions.

Whether your custom is burial or cremation, and whether it is your family's tradition to have the service in your place of worship or at our chapel, the caring staff at Smith & Kernke will serve you with knowledge and sensitivity.
