It is our promise to provide service, support, and comfort to those in need. Please use our website as a means of finding information and resources to make informed decisions and connect with our licensed directors. Walter J. Kent Funeral Home is locally owned and family operated in Elmira, NY. Opened in 2003, our funeral home was the completion of the founder's life long dream to serve families of his community under his own roof.

We proudly serve all faiths and offer professional, personalized service to those who have endured a loss as well as those seeking to plan ahead for the future. Our website serves to provide information for those in need as well as a place to leave condolences and memories for friends and loved ones.
Services
During a period of corporate owned funeral service in Chemung County, Walter Kent struck out on his own to continue and build upon his 22 years of service to Elmira families. Our modern facility was purposefully built to serve as a funeral home; the spacious foyer, arrangement center, East Room and Mural Parlor are located on a single level and fully handicap accessible.
If you are coming from the North, travelling from the Horseheads area (I-86/Rt-17) highway exit, take South Main Street as it turns in Lake Street. Our funeral Home will be on your left through the intersection of Lake and Washington. If you are coming from the South, coming off of the Elmira/Jerusalem Hill (I-86/Rt-17) highway exits, Take Church Street or Water Street West until you come to Madison Ave.
Walter continued his long career in Elmira after leaving the James D. Barrett Funeral Home and building his own funeral home in 2003. With nearly 40 years of service to our area and surrounding counties, Walter has been involved with Chemung County Meals on Wheels, The Most Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Parish, and a local countywide committee for building a veterans memorial monument.
This means that we are able to offer and assist with virtually any aspect of service desired by our families. Information of funeral planning and pre-planning can also be found above on the selection bar. Calling hours or visitation, either at the funeral home, places of worship, gathering halls or other locations.
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the New York State Department of Health both require that certain disclosures be made by funeral providers on the General Price List. Although these disclosures are similar, they are not exactly the same. This General Price List contains both sets of the required disclosures.

The way our family was treated at the funeral for FLOYD THOMAS death was very unprofessional when his own kids wasnt included or informed of any arrangements is very rude and unprofessional so i highley dont recommend using this funeral home if you want any closer on a death of a family member

This funeral home is not family oriented at all its supposed to be a place for closure but if ur not the one paying them they dont care if u get the closer or not. I wouldnt recomend them for anything. The arguments that took place was all because I the child was shunned and not included in any of the aragements even tho i had reached out to mr kent many times. But as i stated because i wasnt the one paying or even made aware of the cost i wasnt good enough to be a part of my fathers funeral.

First of all let me start out by saying Mr Kent, was awesome. With this being my first time planning a funeral Mr Kent was very helpful and answered all of our questions pretty much took care of everything. They are heart warming people, so they make you feel like your at home and not alone. They are professional, curtious and friendly. Thanks again Walter Kent Funeral Home for making it easier.
