Disappointing...and it was highly recommended to me so that made it even more disappointing.
I am not into drinking so this isn't a review of their happy hour. I ordered the fried prawns, their number 4 specialty roll, a BBQ eel roll with tamago and I think a Philadelphia roll along with a miso soup. While the soup was good, and the Philadelphia roll average, the prawns were crispy enough but I didn't understand the sauce you were supposed to dip it in. It was like watery, bland, vaguely lemony or gingery broth with green onion floating in it giving it no extra taste. I didn't end up liking the

We are visiting Arcata for a couple nights and chose Tomo's as our biggish dinner out. We researched the menu, took notes, and did a slight hike before ordering - the web site reads in the middle of the page "Call-In Take Out". We called en route and could not get through - for fifteen minutes, the phone said "User Busy". No worries - we drove to the restaurant to place the order in person. We walked right up to the register, which was unattended, and when we asked to order To-Go items, were told that that they do not take To-Go orders after 5:30pm. I pointed out that it

I have not been to tomos in quite some time so I was really looking forward to it. The food was very disappointing. The service equally is disappointing. It seemed like every single role on the menu contained avocado which if you're not a fan then you are out of luck. Everything tasted the same and look the same. There's a lot of really good competition in arcata. Nori is doing an amazing job. I was disappointed in my trip to tomos!

#1 don't be in a hurry. Food came out Very slowly. We ordered dinner combo with each having choice of main and a roll. Ordered lemon drop martinis and I sent mine back as it was just straight vodka. The second was better but not great. My husband said later he should have sent his back too. Both left sitting on the table. Food arrived 1 hour 15 minutes after ordering. And we left 15 minutes after it arrived. We did have nice lunches the next day. Katsu chicken was dry however.

Everything was delicious and fresh, but the salmon collar was the best I've ever tasted! I almost always have nigiri and had their sampler, which is very good. My husband was quite happy with the Larrupin Station roll made with locally smoked albacore. We will be in town for a few more days and will definitely be coming back.

The food was great but my only problem is when you have a whole table full of customer's you need to serve them all at the same time. 3 out of 5 of our party got our food and it took them 20 mins for the remaining people in our party to receive their food. No one wants to eat in front of other people.

Our server, Luis, was fantastic, but the place is clearly understaffed. The wait times to order and receive food were long. However, the the food was great and very well priced. For appetizers, we ordered fried scallops and rainbow poké. Both were good, poké was better. For rolls, we ordered #4, #7, and the special Coco cabana roll. All were good but the special rolls was by far the best. Worth noting, most rolls were cooked opposed to raw, might be a common for the area.

If the photo below doesn't encourage you to try this place out, if you haven't already, bless your soul. I have never been disappointed by Tomo's service, rolls, and delivery of food items. Everything I've tried here is made with detail and so much flavor! Please be adventurous when going here. You won't be disappointed!

The whole entire model is unsustainable and destroying the planet, anyway, let's be honest, seafood is not sustainable. They also serve the highly intelligent and sentient octopus, which is like serving a 2 1/2 year old human. If you want to support an archaic, unsustainable industry that uses mile-long ocean drag nets and suffocates and starves the last remaining whales on Earth, I can't stop you. I just warn you that your actions have consequences. Also, it's well-known that Tomo kitchen is filthy.

I really like this restaurant and come here often when taking weekend trips several times a year. However this time we were prepared for take out because of Covid regulations, which is totally fine with us and we're excited for a night in with sushi at the beautiful historical hotel located within the same building. Upon checkin we saw that is was take out only (no surprise and sign posted) and asked for a paper menu to decide what's for dinner. They gave me a real menu since I was a guest at a hotel which I appreciated and told me I could leave the menu in the room if I would like. The

My fiancé and I just moved to Arcata a little over a month ago and, being sushi hounds, have been asking around for the best sushi in the area- the answer has been the same every time: "Tomo, Tomo, Tomo!"
Unfortunately our first visit left us more than a little disappointed and will unfortunately be our last unless something changes.
The roll options have little in the way of raw fish- the few that do only offer hamachi, tuna, and salmon which is oddly cured in lemon- possibly trying to hide subpar fish quality? Well, whatever. The Americanized stuff isn't what we look for when

Happen'n sushi joint where all that's missing is the sake bombs.
Young and loud, party crowd on an otherwise court Tuesday night. Maybe it's because Covid has so many other places shut down. Mostly groups of 4 coming in after...work/class/surfing/fishing...? Not sure there. Very casual and a good place to get your drink on with friends. Maybe not the best place for sushi.
#1 special $8.75 the salmon skins comes across as delicious bacon bits. I'm a fan!
Chirashi Sushi $23.95 is thinly sliced sashimi over rice. I'd like to see what you get from the Chefs Assorted Sashimi

Worst experience i've ever had at a restaurant, from start to finish there were so many things that went wrong with ordering, waiting for our food, and the staff.
1. we were a party of 7 and specifically told our server we wanted separate checks and were given a single bill at the end
2. we ended up waiting 30 minutes for JUST our drinks with one of them being incorrect and another 30 for our actual food to start coming out
3. the hostess was helping our server bring food out and tossed it on our table saying "idk who these are for". she was very rude and could have simply asked

Well on the plus side the food is good. Oyster shooter (yeah I know but it was good) but tonight was a classic service cluster mess. Training training training. Too many staff with no direction. Standing around, literally bumping into each other. Kitchen staff coming out to check orders etc. Meanwhile order took more than 30 minutes to come out (we are talking dumplings and sashimi) and then it apparently sat for 10 minutes while manager (!? - guy over 35) was checking in with the two cashier's? Obviously in a town like this there is going to be a lot of college ages staff and few experienced

I've been wanting to give this place a try for a while now. I wandered in on a Sunday evening just around 5pm and the place was practically empty. Located in Arcata square surrounded by many other shops, it's nice place to dine especially on a lazy weekend.
We heard about the chef's special Sashimi plate so we went in already knowing what to order. Quite hungry, we ordered 2 additional house specialty rolls as well. The sashimi plate was phenomenal. It takes a while to come out (as the menu states) due to the way the sashimi is plated. There were about 7 different cuts of fish
