Great gym. Great group of people who train there. The owner is a great guy, too. Trained there for a year and a half for 5 or 6 days a week and looked forward to it almost every day I went. Got me through the darkest and coldest months of the pandemic. Church Street was my only social outlet, more or less, for the better part of a year, and I grew to feel much closer to everyone there than I had at any fight gym I'd trained at previously. I miss the place a lot.

Training at Five Points Academy now and with the Wat in Fort Greene Park. I'm a Muay Thai guy, and the new gyms are better

My review is about Jason Strout, not the gym itself. Trained under him from 2008-2010 and I can say he is one of my favorite instructors. A former fighter, he is a phenomenal instructor and really cares about your improvement even if you are not trying to fight. If he is still teaching there, I highly recommend training under him.

Even for a first timer, Danny pushed you and didn't make it an 'easy' first class, which I appreciated. Since we were all beginners, he took the time to go through everybody's techniques and pushed you each step of the way. It showed how intense the classes were and what I should expect if I wanted to continue on. The class flew by.

This gym is a no frills gym. You've got a small women's room, protected by what seemed like a shower curtain, it had bathrooms and showers, but not a lot of room to put your stuff or change. If you want to lock up your stuff, there are

This was my first experience at the Chelsea location for CSBG and I really liked it! (I'm a usual member at the original Park Place location in downtown and have been going there since Spring of 2019. )
For my Chelsea visit I attended an All Levels 7 a.m. class taught by Danny. The gym itself is clean, the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable, and the bathrooms are great. I showered here before I went to work, and I didn't have any problems whatsoever. I used the hangers in the ladies room for my coat and wet towel, lockers for my things, etc. I really enjoyed my experience

I've been taking boxing here for several months now, and every class I learn something new and make progress. Each of the instructors is committed to helping us learn the right form and improve. It's a great workout, and I always look forward to going. The gyms are a good size space with nice locker rooms for showering.

I took boxing all levels with Kalief.
Let me just say that I was very apprehensive about doing this class with limited experience (and with my two friends who had zero experience) based on other reviews about how it wasn't good for beginners. Kalief immediately recognized that we had no idea what we were doing, went through different combinations as slowly as he could while still keeping the rest of the class moving, and let the three of us stay together during drilling and worked with us individually while everyone else was drilling/partnered up. He was sooo nice!

STAY AWAY!
Absolutely disgusting and thoughtless gym. If you're a running a Muay Thai class (required to be barefeet), at least take the time to wipe down the mat once in a while. This mat seems to not have been wiped in YEARS.
I washed my feet after class and the water was BLACK. The instructor did not take off his socks, while everyone else did. I guess he knows how disgusting it is and did not want to risk getting an infection/feet amputation.
Instructor (zev) couldn't have cared less about anyones form.
What a sorry excuse of a "Muay Thai" class.
Just don't come

Took a trial class with Jayo and had to leave early after he was rude to me for not getting the choreography quickly enough. He gave me a look like I was an idiot, and when I told him it was one of my first boxing classes, he said "I'm trying to go at your pace, but this is just the warm up, if you can't get it don't get mad at me." So uncalled for. You're teaching a BEGINNER class, it's literally your job to help people learn the moves. The attitude and arrogance were so unappealing, I'll never go back. Oh, and on top of that, the place is dirty as hell

The best and most intense workout of all. This is real, intense fight style training and levels above what you get at the typical gyms.

I do muay thai privates with Chris, the Sat muay thai class and 7am bootcamp classes by Lee. Have been doing it for 5 years. It's similar to HIIT but for a whole hour, non stop. This high intensity "bursts" training is what makes you more cut and increase metabolic rate.

Very friendly staff. Highly recommend.

I went to a free trial class with Kenny and I can see why other people commenting that the classes here are kind of random. Kenny casually mentioned things to do which didn't seem very structured.

However, I checked my fitbit heart rate tracking and this "unstructured" class got me more workout done than other structured boxing classes.

Also, I really liked that Kenny would watch and pick up things that I didn't do correctly and taught us basic things because we are beginners. He was very friendly and the class was extremely challenging.

Even though I wish there were more

Best Boxing gym in NYC hands down. I have been Boxing for 10 years, from LA. It took me a month of making my rounds checking out different gyms all over NYC to finally land here at Church Street. Great people here, Genero is a class act owner, Lee is a phenomenal trainer and all around fun guy, and Nicco is top notch trainer that will keep a smile on your face as well! I have just saved you yelpers a month of searching!

Love this place! You are guaranteed a serious workout here.

If you come here consistently and aren't getting into better shape then you are absolutely doing something very wrong. Love training with Scrap, you can tell he is passionate about his craft and teaching others.

My 14 yr old son and I were in NYC and going to miss our usual boxing night back home in Canada. we looked around the hotel on google and found this amazing gym. We were made to feel very welcome. It felt just like we had been here before. Amazing staff and a great venue. We will be back when we visit again. Thanks,

This is a place where you can learn how to actually box and have a good workout at the same time. EVERY staff is extremely nice and helpful. I've taken almost all the trainers classes and I absolutely loved every one of them. One on one with Scrap has been helping me build foundations and fighting skills significantly. He pushes me to work hard in every class and I LOVE it!

I saw some comments about the gym is not clean, etc. Again this is a boxing gym, where people put their sweat and hard work in, things get dirty when you fight. If you are looking for a nice place to get a regular workout

Crowded, disorganized and unsafe. I took a 7:30pm class billed as 'all levels' that left a lot to be desired, e.g., my desire to avoid rib contusions.

First half was intense conditioning! It was a hard, satisfying workout, though there was barely enough room for the exercises - I kicked a girl with my mountain climbers (sorry!).

Second half got messy and dangerous: coach randomly paired us to spar in the ring without protective gear and literally zero training. A handful of people had never fought in their life! We received little guidance, except 'no head shots.' First
