In the Late 1800's, The Wellwood Club was originally a private Hunting and Fishing Club that was established as An organization of optimists and humanitarians in the broadest sense. Its purpose is to promote the 'happy' habit; to reduce the friction of life to a minimum and increase the pleasure of existence to the maximum; to discourage strife and promote good fellowship.

This was our first time there. It is a beautiful historical building and was decorated perfectly for the holiday season. The staff was knowledgeable and polite. The server Diana we had did an outstanding job explaining anything we asked. The atmosphere was very enjoyable and the meal was outstanding. Lots of food for your money. Would recommend 100%. Can't wait to go back.

Really nice place for the Cecil County Harvest Festival.
Parking was a bit tight.
The owner and staff were gracious and helpful at every turn. AND he promised to work in more local fare to his menu.
The chicken they served came from the Cecil County School of Technology Ag department. It was good.
We also liked the local wine.
Fun night with good food and entertainment.

All you can eat is what it literally means!!!! It kept coming and coming.The crabs were huge and juicy and it comes with the yummiest chicken!!!!, hush puppies, corn on the cob and crinkle French fries. The service was amazingly quick and the ambience kinda took you to krusty krab lol!
Definitely worth the spend and you need to plan on hanging out for at least 2 hours. Oooouuu before I forget, I had probably the best Moscow mule here.

Went down to watch the Preakness and visit with the owner. Started with the Gator Taco's, new to the menu since I was there last, and they were awesome! Then had 1/2 pound of steamed shrimp followed by the Fish Bites. Everything was great and the staff was very busy but attentive to everyone! Larry Metz Jr. Is running a good place with great food! I usually sit outside and enjoy a band or the weather!

After living within 10 minutes for over twenty years and trying a few times over the past few years we finally found the River Shack and sure glad we did. Wellwood was good but always felt a little dated and for older crowd. With COVID we got the food to go and everything was delicious. Crab cake, fried chicken, oysters Rockefeller, crab bisque. We also asked for smith island cake which is typically only available over at the Wellwood but the guy went over and got it for us. Definitely will be back and once damn COVID is over can't wait to get crabs and chicken!

Sat at the bar on a cool December Sunday afternoon. Pictured here is the spicy chicken Sammy with fries and coleslaw. Service was fast and friendly. The men's room was spotless. The sandwich was fantastic. It had sweet dill pickles on it which was a surprise. I'll make another stop to try the prime rib that another patron recommended.

My first time there. Had the all you can eat crabs, corn, chicken, hush puppies. Best crabs I have had all season. Nice and full seasoned just right. My friend had as she said the best bloody Marys. Desert was peach cobbler awesome, bananas Wellwood she said they were delicious. The waitress was just the best, the manager also made sure he went to every table.

Great place to eat steamed crabs on a hot summer's day under the tent. We ordered a dozen small crabs which were all pretty meaty for smalls and reasonably priced. We also had fried fish bites, steamed shrimp, hush puppies and fried chicken...all were excellent! Love the atmosphere here, great cocktails, good service and they a live band playing after 5.

I really enjoyed everything except the lobster.
The most expensive and the thing I went there fore...was bad.
It was mushy. Obviously the lobster had been dead before processing.
I didn't complain. My husband drove her at my insistence so I didn't want to upset him. I just gagged down the mush. Scallops were tender
The shrimp crab cocktail was good but I wasn't thrilled with the crab. The shrimp was jumbo and yummy. The cocktail sauce was superb.
I LOVED the house dressing on the salad.
The croissants were flaky and just WOW
Hubby liked his steak grill.
He ate it all and wasnt feeling well

Service was phenomenal! The complimentary warm bread was to die for! The appetizers were on point! If your a seafood fan try the crab dip, and firecracker shrimp they were beyond delicious! I wasn't impressed with a suggested side by our waitress... squash creole. It was way to sweet and lacked that kick creole dishes normally have. Overall, a great tasty gem hidden away in a small town and must try!

If you like Seacrets in Ocean City you'll love the River Shack. My friend and I dined here for lunch during a girl's day out in the area. She did all the planning and a friend of hers suggested it. Neither of us had been here but we both love the beach and being by the water. Located in a residential neighborhood near the water it had a very Key West vibe complete with sand underfoot and palm trees. Once on the property it's easy to forget that you're in Northeast Maryland.

Finally got to try out The River Shack last month. What a treat! The all you can eat crabs w/chicken, corn and hush puppies was amazing. The crabs were incredibly tasty. No complaints whatsoever. I usually don't eat the other items that come along with all you can eat. I did however dig in this time. The hush puppies are the best I've ever had. The corn was exactly what you would expect this time of year. Sweet, juicy and delicious. I only had one piece of the fried chicken but it was VERY good. I mean perfect actually. Chicken was great, crabs were great. Crab fries were excellent. All good. Service was meh. We had to wait for drinks to be replenished even though our waitress said she was bored and we were her only table. Also, they swapped out small crabs for medium after we ordered because that was all they had left. Bad planning on their part to be running out of crabs on early Sunday... plan ahead and try early Saturday to get larger or jumbos

Great crabs and a great time. We sat out back where they have tables and fans. It was very hot but not bad as there was shade in the back. There's also a small inside area to sit as well. You will not leave this place hungry. You get an unbelievable amount of food between the crabs, chicken, and corn.

The River Shack is an interesting little crabshack found way off the beaten road and occupying what can only be described as literally a consortium of impromptu shacks and portable restrooms. Don't come here expecting a fine dining experience, the place caters well to its niche clientelle - people who are looking for a casual homely meal that starts off uplifting for the soul until eventually and inevitably the discomfort begins as your stomach plummets from the quantity of food. We came here from NJ and it was worth the drive. We loved the beach atmosphere of sand, tent and lights. My kids loved playing in the sand as they waited for those food. They even had buckets and shovels.
They had good specials on the Thursday night we went. Kids eat free! $5 wings and drinks. Very nice. We ordered some wings and the crab fries ( so so good). My husband and I shared the dozen crabs and fried chicken even though the all you can eat is a better deal. Crabs were great and chicken was amazing too. One suggestion is better light under the tent. It got dark and it was hard to see what
