Tokyo was opened back in 1988 by Yoshi and Dona Tsukano. Yoshi grew up and trained in Japan before working as a chef in New York, Minneapolis, and Los Angeles. For 30 years, Tokyo has been the Chippewa Valley's premier Japanese Restaurant and is known for having an authentic Teppanyaki experience, creating ginger sauce you will crave, and having the best shrimp in Eau Claire.
We personally cut only the highest quality meats and freshest ingredients to create mouthwatering entrees and sauces. Yoshi and Dona retired from the business in 2019, and today Tokyo is owned by Eau Claire natives, Ryan Warffuel and Charlee Markquart. They are committed to carrying on Yoshi's recipes and methods.

I've been coming to Tokyo for as long as I can remember -- over two decades now. This restaurant has always been a favorite of mine and was always my choice for birthday dinners growing up. The quality of the food is always exceptional, and the service continues to be great even after all of these years. I miss seeing Yoshi and Dona around the restaurant, but the new owners have done a fantastic job of keeping the tradition alive. Definitely the best hibachi and the best shrimp in town!

The company and chef were all wonderful. The chicken and filet were amazing. Compared to other hibachi grills I've been to I have had better when it comes to the rice, salad, Yum yum sauce and wine selection (they don't serve noodles or try to toss food and sake into your mouth). All in all, I guess i was just happy that my chicken and filet mignon turned out good.

This place was simple and cute all the way from the exterior to the fish kite banners on the wall to the privacy cloths hung in between each room. As for food, I can only speak for the ramen this time, but both the spicy shoyu and tonkatsu shio were delicious. The noodles were perfectly chewy and able to grab the thicc soup. The seasoned egg was delightful and creamy. The char siu seemed to be braised and then charred on the top. It melted so nicely in the mouth! Both broths tasted similar, but the spicy one was reminiscent of almost (just the tiniest bit) a curry broth because it was so thick

A great place for a business meeting, a intimate date, or a entertaining night out with the family. The choices of ingredients, dishes, and drinks are superb. The servers are very friendly and helpful in decision making for pickier people. The front displays as a hidden gem but the interior is a vastly more vibrant and authentic experience waiting for you. I'd recommend having a reservation for weekend nights. Honestly blown away by the egg drop soup and house salad appetizers.

Disappointed. I don't know what happened, used to love Tokyo. Both our meals were small, vegetables were warmer than our proteins. EXTREMELY, EXTREMELY over priced. My meal was $40 for steak and 2 tiny scallops. I can go to Fugi and get lobster added to my steak and scallops for less. Server was friendly, just awkward. Most likely won't be going back and not recommending.

Totally disappointed, I ordered fried rice and what they brought was a rice with vegetables, the portions are very little for the price. The chefs are neither Japanese nor Chinese, it is disrespectful to have a Japanese restaurant and it is Americans who cook. The chef did not stop talking all the time about cooking and making fun of the customer who was there at the table. Bad taste to clean the iron when one is eating, that smell damages how little one enjoys the food.

I would not recommend. Not authentic at all the chefs are not Japanese or Chinese, they are white/Caucasian. Dinner for 2 with 2 beers was over $64 and it was not good at all. The portions were awful and the food was way over seasoned, my chicken was awful and I practically had to choke it down. the fried rice tasted like it was made a few days ago and it was so oily like they dumped a ton of oil into it to make it look tasty, i about puked when I tasted it. The fried rice isn’t made in front of you they bring it from the back so I don’t trust it. I would give this place a F for a grade scale
