Peter's Place was founded in 1974 on the premise that each child be welcomed, appreciated and embraced for who he or she is in the moment. As a play-based preschool, we honor the developmental truth that children's work is their play, and that playing is a vital way to learn and grow in the early years.
We also place great importance on the social and emotional lives of children as we guide and support them in developing skills and confidence in each area of their lives. Every day we are happy to continue this legacy by creating a warm, safe and nurturing environment where children thrive. Please contact Eileen Louie, Program Director (director@petersplace.org ) for more information.

In 1974, Eric Stein and Widge Nelson began a small nursery school in the basement of the parish hall of St. Peter's Church. They were in their early 20's, had lots of energy and a clear vision for what young children needed. Forty years later, Peter's Place remains the legacy of their vision and we are so proud to be able to continue on that journey that Eric and Widge started.
Peter's Place Nursery School was founded in 1974 to provide a warm, enriching and safe environment for young children where they could grow and learn as they take their first steps outside of their family life. Located in San Francisco's Inner Richmond neighborhood, Peter's Place is a fully-licensed, non-profit preschool, serving children 2 years-6 months through pre-kindergarten.
Peter's Place is both a wonderful place for children and a rewarding place to work. The remarkable tenure of our teachers is due to the importance placed on a collaborative work environment and the value of continued professional growth.
All of the Peter's Place teachers have extensive education and training in early childhood education and are encouraged to expand their knowledge through on-going professional development that is funded by the school.Working as a team, the Program Director and teachers meet weekly to discuss how to support the children in our program and plan the individualized curriculum that defines Peter's Place.

Children entering the Young Preschool class are often taking their first social steps outside of the home. This is a significant transition for a young child. They are coming to a new place with new adults and children and are being asked to embrace the experience. For many children, this can be a stressful and emotionally challenging endeavor.
Please contact Eileen Louie, Program Director (director@petersplace.org ) for more information. Please note, at this time, tours will be held virtually. Typically, tours are hosted throughout the year by the Program Director and are held after school when the program is not in session. During the tour you will learn about the history and philosophy of our program and will have an opportunity to ask questions.
