This community is our home. Our doors have been open to the people and pets of Bastrop since 1974. Through the years, we have always held a simple guiding principle: put people and pets first. That is why we are so proud to be privately owned. Decisions are always made based on what's best for you, your pet, and your family.

And we'll care for you like our own. Decisions are always made based on what is best for you, your pet, your family, and our community. We will care for you like one of our own. We believe that medicine works best when it is deeply personal. Our doctors and staff take the time to know you and your pets: to understand what your worries are, what your needs are, and how we can make a positive difference in your life.
Services
Animal lovers. In everything we do, we believe in caring for every pet we see like our own and making a difference in your life. I love working at Bastrop Vet because of the personal relationships with clients and the variety of species we see.

I love the animals of course, but I also love the variety that veterinary medicine has provided - this profession allows me to continue learning every single day, and there are countless opportunities to use the gifts God has given me to serve Him.I love veterinary medicine, especially mixed animal medicine, for the variety it provides.
We understand that emergencies do happen. Our professional staff is ready to help with any emergencies that occur during business hours. With our access to in-house laboratory and imaging, we try to pinpoint the problem as fast as possible and aim to keep your pet comfortable. Just like people, some emergencies require more specialized and intensive care.
Regular wellness examinations or checkups are vital in order to keep your pet as healthy and happy as possible. These visits give us an opportunity to perform a thorough physical exam and help identify any medical problems your pet may have that would affect their quality of life. We start each visit with a discussion regarding your pet's current health at home, any concerns you may have for today, and a history of any symptoms your pet may have.
Regular preventative care can ensure better health for your cattle, sheep, goats, and other small ruminants. Vaccinations are available to prevent respiratory infections and Clostridial infections including tetanus and blackleg. Regular deworming is essential for preventing parasites including intestinal parasites, flies, ticks, and lice.
Preventative wellness visits to have a comprehensive check-up and annual vaccinations is important for your horse, donkey, or mule. We regularly vaccinate against Rabies, Flu-Rhino, West Nile Virus, Encephalitis Viruses i.e. EEE, WEE, and VEE, Tetanus, and Strep-Strangles. Preventative parasite control such as fly, tick, and intestinal parasites can help keep your equine healthy.

Annie, our coming 11 year old Sheepadoodle dog, was recently seen for her annual checkup. The vet was on the floor with her, petting and talking to her, which allowed Annie to relax. Annie means the world to our family. Making the vet visit as pleasant as possible for her is critically important to us. Staff at Bastrop Veterinary Hospital accomplished that.

Excellent veterinarian clinic. Me and my family have been going to them for over 15 years. They have the best prices, never over charging and I absolutely love Dr. Dawson. She is absolutely amazing!!! Definitely my go to vet, I live an hour away and am happy to make the drive to see her. She is knowledgable and very kind, answers any questions or concerns I have and actually cares for my dogs. I received multiple phone calls checking up on my Raya and her puppies, no veterinarian clinic I've been to has ever done that, and I've been to many. That really ment a lot to me. It is hard to find a good

I brought my two chihuahuas to their dental cleaning. This is the best veterinary hospital I have experienced! The staff and doctors really cared for them and explained the aftercare thoroughly so that I understood the directions. They called after surgery to check on them too. And it felt good as a dog owner to have everyone make me feel like my dogs where the cutest ever even though not true, lol! The price was the best for dental cleaning that I could find within a 50-mile radius. My wallet was so happy it said I could buy new pair of shoes! What I found surprising, is how clean they look now

So many great doctors. Dr.B is our personal favorite. Always right there. Always conscious of cost and giving your fur children the best care. I currently have covid.... My elderly cat has kidney disease and needs special food. I called and they charged my card over the phone and brought the food out and placed it in the bed of the truck. Little Brother is fat and happy knowing we have BVH on our team.

Been on hold for 20+ minutes trying to get an appointment. I guess I'm the type of person that would say "We are really busy at this time, do you mind holding a few more minutes" after putting someone on hold. I would answer the phone again after 5 min. Does the phone not ring back? Seriously 25 min. on hold is really so un

They were great about dealing with my puppy that hasn't been loading yet, and they made sure all of my dog's records were current and they talked to me about what I wanted. Easy to make an appointment and this is my new vet. NOT!
Haven't been able to communicate with the Vet who did the exam. Called daily for a week! 2 dogs - $400 just for the basics and the pup got a nail trim. I think it is a bit pricey,no discussion about senior discounts...I think we're going to check out Lagrange for the next bout.

I have been going to this Vet since 2018 and been very pleased with the Doctors that have treated my pets. However, last Monday I took my daughter's cat for what I was told was a consulting appointment about declawing which they said was necessary before they would schedule surgery. I had been told over the phone in April that they performed the laser technique for this surgery and it would cost about $475. So when I called to schedule the surgery, they said this consult was necessary first. The nurse that took me into the exam room was very nice to me but explained they do not use the

Good doctors. They have taken good care of my animals. But you have to check the bill to be sure it is correct, check to be sure all meds on the bill are actually brought out, and have to use their online pharmacy because they no longer carry products in the clinic needed for maintenance (heartworm, flea medication). Using their online pharmacy is a pain for too many reasons to list here. Can't use anyone else though. I tried. If you know this and have patience, then I recommend this clinic. Bottom line, good care of my animals is worth the hassle if you don't already have a good vet

The vets are great and that's why I have been a customer for 6 years. But the customer service has hit rock bottom! They send a tech out to take your money that has the personality of a dead fish and can't even look at you or acknowledge you if you ask a question. And then when you do get some one that will speak to you they are like "oh well sucks to be you". I waited for 45 minutes to pick up my dog from a grooming appointment! I get y'all are busy but that's crazy!

If my memory serves me correctly, I have been going to Bastrop Veterinary Hospital for over 20 years. Yesterday changed all that. This may sound insignificant to some but I am sure so many others can relate to what happened. Before leaving work at 5:00p.m., to head to Bastrop Vet to pick up my GSD Sadie, I made sure to use the restroom before I left. I knew the vet office you have to wait outside to be taken care of so I took care of business. Right before pulling up I felt an urgent emergency about to take place. Knowing the clinic is still locked up like ft. knox, I called the clinic, spoke

The vets and vet techs are great. The clinic manager, Janet, is an absolute nightmare. She's petty and vindictive. A couple examples:

My dog was getting surgery and the vet tech told me that pickup was at 6, but as long as I came by 630 it was fine. I got stuck in traffic and called and told them my eta was 607. Janet told me that if I was after 6 I would be charged an overnight fee and they would not give my dog back until the next day. I arrived at 604. Got my dog back and they charged me a 25 dollar overnight fee anyways. There were still plenty of people on the parking lot. I had asked

For over 10 years my pets have received loving care from the fine folks at BVH. I am finding it difficult to communicate just how perfect the service is.
Over dozens of visits, I haven't had one moment where I could wish for anything better. Every single staff member I've met has been friendly, courteous, kind and seem to truly love all pets. Much of the same staff remains over many many years, that's such a great sign!
We've done overnight intensive care, surgery, every kind of maintenance, resolved strange symptoms & behaviors - they're always giving perfect quality service.
I suspect they

I rarely write reviews but what happened today at the vet has to be known. I have dropped off fecal samples to the vet before and was always charged $20. Today I dropped off 2 samples to confirm my puppies were parasite free. They charged me $60- $30 per PUPPY. When I questioned the price the vet tech got very defensive and wouldn't answer why they were so much. She went back to the office for a while then sent out another vet tech. The new tech said they change the price based on the quality of the sample yet I pay them prior to them even receiving the sample. So basically if they're

This place is no good for 2 reasons, the staff has no idea what they are doing and they aren't trying to help customers save money. They charge you each time you go for nail trim even if you don't ask. Not to mention they do not work with chewy for flea and tick med so you have to pay an arm and a leg for their med. When I picked up my dog from there I asked the vet tech when he needed to be back and she looked at me and said I have no idea. Then I asked her when he needed his flea med which she responded she had no idea either. What kind of vet tech is that. Cedar creek and crossroads

With them being professionals I expect a professional opinion. After we told them multiple times not to do excessive testing on our 16 year old shih tzu, I expected them to listen to us. Instead they did testing that we told them we didn't want and kept our dog at the vet all day when they could have been honest with us so we could spend the last day we had with our dog. But yet, they gave us false hope, kept our dog all day and our dog ended up passing with in a few hours of being home. After they told us there was nothing wrong and the medication would help a lot.

We have dealt with some pushy vets before (namely in the city of Austin), but the reason we love these guys is because they strongly encourage you to be educated about your pets health. They will provide you with information on what is recommended/required for your pet based on age and history... but it's up to you, the owner, to be responsible in scheduling and asking for specific services.

Not only are they affordable, but they are Aggie owned and operated! Whoop!!

I have been going Bastrop vet hospital for 7 yrs, because they were so close to my house. There office is smelly, some of the staff is rude, also they over charge for everything. There service is slow. Emg # does not call back, and recording tells you to go to Austin emg, 40 or more miles away, an animal could be dead by the time you even get to Austin, much less to the emg hospital. They don't even give you your pets records so that you can take somewhere that treats you and your pets with respect.

My dog had a very bad stomach bug and they saw me right away! I called ahead to be able to walk in and I was still seen very quickly, I was surprised. And just when I thought my dog was getting better she took a quick turn and I brought her back about 2 hours from closing the next day and they yet still took care of us, no hesitation. Never had a doubt about what they were explaining either, it's nice to feel comfortable that my pups are being taken care of by knowledgeable staff.

Thought I'd try out a local veterinarian as I live here, my pup's other veterinarian is in Northwest Austin.
There is quite a wait, in and out in about 1 hour and 15 minutes. My pup was examined in a back room with the vet, then he was brought back to me. After a wait she came and talked to me. My pup has dry eyes, allergies and always has itchy dry skin-after a visit fee, 2 eye meds and one oral antibiotic (5 pills) total was $249. Quite a bit more expensive than my other vet.
So they have an online pharmacy to order medications (what they don't have at their office) that my
