Mount Baker Preschool
Mount Baker Preschool is a unique Waldorf cooperative preschool in Seattle. Our focus is on nurturing creative play, providing access to nature, building empathy, and fostering community. Our community is a group of diverse individuals who strive to love and care for all of the children as if they were our own.

We welcome families of every race, creed, religion, and sexual orientation. We are committed to removing barriers that might prevent families from joining us, and encourage families in need to apply for financial aid.
Services
We are committed to developing the creative, nurturing, and cognitive capabilities of our students. Mount Baker is a member of the Waldorf Early Education Association of North America. As a cooperative, the teachers design and implement the curriculum, and parents work to support them in creating an environment where our children are free to learn, explore, and play safely.
Teaching at MBPS is collaborative, with teacher Carolyn holding to the values of Waldorf education. Our rhythms of extensive outdoor and indoor free play time; songs, rhymes and games in our outdoor and indoor circles; oral storytelling; community snack time twice daily; and celebrations of the seasons are the center of our school.
In this season of gratitude, our preschool community has so much to be grateful for. At the beginning of November, we were able to resume a modified form of preschool with safety as our utmost priority. Preschool is now completely outdoors with a smaller group of children, daily wellness checks, and mask wearing.
How do Co-op Classroom model families facilitate child care for younger siblings during working shifts?. We seek to create a space where children and parents can experience a slower, more intentional pace, diminishing the stress of daily life. We alternate between outdoor play, tree climbing, music, walks, indoor art, and story activities.
The co-op environment has been great in helping me grow as a parent and caregiver. As someone who doesn't have a ton of prior experience with groups of kids, seeing all of the children interact has helped me better understand and anticipate age-appropriate skills, milestones, and challenges. We chose Mount Baker Preschool because my daughter was drawn to the space in a way I didn't see on any other school visit.

My daughter goes here and loves it. Her imagination and creative problem solving ability has taken off over the last year, and I think it has a lot to do with being in an environment that encourages creative play and social competency. If you can teach a child how to creatively address challenges and how to interact well with other people, you have given them a sturdy foundation to grow on. Thanks Teacher Violetta and Mount Baker Preschool.

MBPS is the best! Our daughter has thoroughly enjoyed her year here. I wish we had known about Waldorf Schools for our other children! I feel that the wonderful experiences that she has had at this school will have a lasting impact as she transitions to elementary school.

We love Mount Baker Preschool; our daughter is midway through her first year there and it's been a great fit for her and for our family. The kids have ample outdoor play time each day, the classroom is wonderfully inspiring and inviting, and the daily snacks consist of beautiful fresh fruits, veggies, and grains.
The school accommodates a total enrollment of about 20-25 children per year, and the community feels large enough for kids to have lots of variety in play partners but small enough to get to know all of the parents and families. The classroom is mixed-age, with three, four, and five year

A lot of imagination and routine! Our son was in the older group. We loved the amount of outside time the children get, rain or shine. One con for us was the amount of involvement the school required of parents.

Our daughter has been attending MBPS since the fall of 2018 and it has been amazing. Teacher Violetta, Caroyln and Angie have been awesome and our daughter is thrilled to go to school. The Waldorf teaching/classroom philosophy have been a welcome addition to our lives. We would recommend MBPS to anyone looking for a nurturing, positive and warm environment staffed with professionals who truly love and care for the children (and have over 20 years at the school between them). We're looking forward to summer camps offered by the school for summer 2019 and the 2019-20 school year.

I am on my 2nd child at this amazing preschool. When my oldest son started attending, I admit we knew almost nothing about Waldorf, but now I see what a wonderful philosophy it is for early child education. It emphasizes simplicity and learning through play and imagination. At Mount Baker, this is accomplished through lots of outdoor play time, art, open-ended play items, a warm and nurturing indoor space, story time, songs, and encouraging imaginative play. Mount Baker also has the privilege of partnering with Bradner Gardens pea patch to give the kids the opportunity to grow and prepare their

My daughter love this school! Teacher Violetta and Carolyn are amazing with kids! . We also like the fact that this is Waldorf school. The place is full of wooden toys, materials from nature and silk. Don't expect any plastic toys here. Children eats together by this huge table. The menu is really healthy grains with veggies and fruits. Hot or cold. They are having hot tea and water as well. My daughter have severe peanut and tree nuts allergies and this school make sure she is safe. Children play outside most of the time. They go for walks to Bradner garden and surrounding areas. rain pants
