Today with growing concerns in a gym setting about things like staph infection, MRSA, ringworm, Klebsiella, e. Coli and influenza, we're also very honored to be known as the cleanest fitness facility in Pittsburgh. Come experience for yourself why many are saying, "PKA Karate Academy is the Taj Mahal of martial arts and fitness centers in the Burgh!"
Services
Students and enthusiasts of Kenpo have many reasons for their interest in this and other martial art styles. Some are drawn to the physical fitness and weight-loss aspects of training. Others seek to add discipline and self-control to their lives. Still, others are concerned about safety and self-defense.
With close to four decades of professional instruction and experience, we at PKA Karate Academy realize that teenagers are a very special group of individuals that both warrant and deserve some extra attention. We call them Extreme Skillz. Most schools just "throw" teens into either their adult program or even worse lump their teens into a children's program.
Our main course has been written up by such local periodicals as the Pittsburgh Post Gazette and as you can see by checking out the reference section of our site, the program quickly exploded from a Community program to a local group and organizational program to a customized corporate program.

The PKA Karate Academy also is the only school to offer this program for fund-raising, taking the place of selling CANDY, MAGAZINES and mundane WRAPPING PAPER.This revolutionary concept was initially brought about through the use of our Women's Self-Defense Program, and now it, of course, expanded to include ALL of our training programs.
It is largely a self-defense system derived from traditional Chinese martial arts, Japanese martial arts and the influence that SGM Parker had with his culture from his boxing in Hawaii. Parker introduced many significant modifications to the art, including concepts, basics and principles of motion and physics, as well as, terminology throughout his life.
Our Instructors have spent many years devoted to training in the art of Kenpo and other martial arts and have attained a certain level of expertise to qualify them as teachers and also mentors. Through extensive testing, certification and on-going instruction, our staff has attained mastery in this martial art and now enjoy sharing their skill and passing it on to their students.

I took Karate with the owner Jeff years ago. Then I noticed he opened his own place a while back. This guy was awesome when he was younger like 20 years ago when I took karate with him. Shirt guy but he is fast as lightning. He is a really nice guy, have not talked to him in a few years, will go back in to check him out, glad he is still teaching, he is very good.

Wouldn't recommend, called them twice to simply get a price for the AT training. All I ever got was; someone will call me back. No one called me back! Not good business practice-when someone is inquiring to give you money-you do everything with excellence to get it-unfortunately, now when I talk to my friends who wanted to train with me for the AT training-we'll have to tell others to consider somewhere else-up your game PKA Karate!!!

Very nice traditional martial arts school. Small classes and very family oriented. It is nice seeing the kids smile and laugh as they are working out and learning how to defend themselves. The sparring is very controlled and safe with the equipment used. It's also cool to see the parents get on the mat before class and throw dodge-balls at their own kids. LOL!

Great seld defense course! It was a great program to attend with my daughter. Also, it was convenient for me to attend the course at Training by Tami. I would be interested in a session two when the girls are home from college!.

My six year old absolutely adores going to his PKA karate classes though I don't think he considers them classes at all. He takes full responsibility for learning the material and earning his stripes. He is really gaining independence. Go little man! Kristie L.

I go here for adult kickboxing, so that's what this review is for, but the coaches are the same and they are incredibly supportive and encouraging and seem to have a great relationship with the younger karate students.

Anyway, I started going to PKA ("ilovekickboxing.com" is the kickboxing program) from a Groupon I got in the summer when I was looking for a change in my work-out and to have some fun after recovering from a back injury. The website seemed cheesy and over the top, but also friendly and the deal was great (they also have a great start-up deal outside the Groupon deal

PKA Karate, in my opinion, is hands down the BEST karate school around. The instructors are amazing and are fantastic with the kids! I have two enrolled at the moment, and will be enrolling a third when he gets old enough! The kickboxing classes are also a great workout, and a great way to get your butt in shape quickly! Do yourself a favor and check them out!
